Avatar Sizer
Well here it is. The Avatar Sizing program that I promised to create. It is easier to use than most graphics packages and will automatically create Avatars suitable for use on the Swinging Heaven Forum.
Please download it and use it, its free! Yep, that's right - Free.
What is an Avatar?
An Avatar is a small image used in forums to identify yourself. These images are usually displayed to the left of your post, directly beneath your Username.
Why would I need an Avatar Sizer?
Avatars used on the Swinging Heaven Forum must be a maximum of 102x102 pixels in size and less than 20KB. If you don't already have an image editing program you need Avatar Sizer. Avatar Sizer is much easier to use than most image editing programs.
Can any image be made into an Avatar?
In theory, Yes! Provided the image you have is one of the ones Avatar Sizer can handle (see the Notes for valid types), you can turn it into an Avatar. So, for example, if you've taken a picture with your digital camera, you can turn it into and Avatar.
Notes on using Avatar Sizer.
- Avatar Sizer is designed to resize images only, not to edit them.
- Avatar Sizer is extremely simple to use.
- Images smaller than the "Maximum Width and Height" are not resized.
- The Aspect Ratio of the image is retained when the image is resized.
- Avatar Sizer uses "Smooth Resizing". This makes the Avatar image look very similar to the original, just smaller! Avatar Sizer may even make some Avatars look better than the original image.
- The resulting Avatar file, including any image that is not resized, is in Jpeg format and when saved, is saved as a JPG.
- You can resize and save any number of images (use the "<< Prev" button to resize another image).
- Avatar Sizer will resize the following types of images:
- Jpegs (JPG)
- Bitmaps (BMP)
- Windows Meta Files (WMF)
- Enhanced Meta Files (EMF)
- Icons (ICO)
- At present Avatar Sizer cannot handle GIFs. I will look at adding GIFs, but it is very unlikely that it will ever do animated GIFs.
- Depending on the type of source image file you shouldn't need to alter the Quality unless the file is over 30MB in size. But, if the image is already highly compressed before you resize it, you may need to alter the quality of very small files. As they say "Suck it and see".
- Sorry about this next bit:
Avatar Sizer is Freeware. You use the Avatar Sizer software totally and entirely at your own risk. The author and Swinging Heaven accepts no liability whatsoever from the use of this program howsoever caused. See the Comments section in Properties for the full Dsiclaimer.
