but this particular day, I felt like i wanted a new look....so I scouted round the hair mags and found a look that I just had to have...a look that said "here comes one sassy mamma, cool, confident, woman about town, yet with a bit of a sexy vixen zizz about it too!
I decided to go for very fine scarlet low light flashes in with my dark brown 'natural' shade....but was I going to pay £80 at a salon........was I bugg£ry!
Was I going to pay a 3rd year college student on a hair dressing course £35, not a snowball in hells chance!
pish, pshaw!!, tis easy enough to do it yourself with one of those wee highlighty kit things with the brush like a mascara wand.....Eva Long'hair'ia or whatever her name is, assures me its easy peasy, and she is a celebrity, so who am I to doubt her, one little bit, because they ALWAYS tell the truth dont they??
so I duly purchse, not a ready made kit of highlighting equipment...NO, a make it up myself highlighty kit with the colours I want and an old mascara wand. I dye my hair the dark brown I always use, then a few days later set about using my scarlet, pillar box red dye for my uber cool ultra fine highlights
The very highlights that would make me sassy, make me sexy and desireable, make me confident, make me lose 10 stone (in my minds eye) and look good in a pvc all in one cupless catsuit (whaddaya mean its ONLY hair colorant and not miracle water from Lourdes!!!)
so I wafted my scarlet dye through my hair, a la Eva, carefully picking out thin chunklets of hair and painted on my ruby red colour, safe in the knowledge that I would soon be a sex vixen to rival **insert your choice here**
I allowed the alloted time only (as usually when i do my brown colour, I wrap my head in cling film and leave it for 2 hours just to 'make sure', and washed off the surplus and dried my hair.......all without looking in a mirror, as I wanted to surprise myslef with the finished look.
as i coyly approached the mirror, eager, yet nervous to see my new look.......did I look sexy?, did I look vampy, yet girl next door, did I ooze confidence, did I look...... NO
I most certainly did not look any of those things!! I looked like the back end of a bleddy fire engine
and the moral of this story?? Vanity comes before a fall, and its worse that a poke in the eye with a blind horse or sumfin like that
and never EVER trust an advert which says something is easy, then at the crucial moment they switch from the celeb to an 'animation' doin the 'easy' hair dying, before cutting back to the celeb again!!!! cos that means its OBVIOUSLY NOT as easy as they make it out to be!!
