What''s This ''adobe Active X''?

Can anyone help? This new chat room version wants me to install 'Adobe Active X' and I just keep being told it has failed to install?

Some forums say it is dodgy to install it anyway.

Any ides anyone. Mrs M wants to do a show and we cant get on the chat room.

No idea but I keep uninstalling it then find I need it again! tut!

I've no idea either since I've never heard of it, but I suspect it's something to do with Windows and Internet Explorer.

my machine has it, though I know not why.

I think its a facility which allows your machine to do stuff with and from other stuff.

I lifted this from somewhere - ActiveX was especially designed to work over the Internet. it goes on ..... ActiveX provides a way to download and install a control immediately on the user's (your) machine.

the operating systems e.g Internet explorer needs this to be able to facilitate use of 'stuff' from elsewhere.

Is this understandable but I sort of get it.

Maybe its like your operating system saying it needs a different spanner to work the new bolt you've found and your trying to use.

Adobe activex is most certinly trying an auto install of flash, this is needed to run the chatroom.

It may happen with any flash embed code as any machine I've had these days has flash on it.

For example, the manual flash install page is at

and you will be asked to allow ActiveX as this is the means used to install flash.
