A complete load of old tosh.

I seem to remember the same being said about bird flu.

Do you all remember that one? Most will not as it came as quick as it went, the same as this will. All that scaremongering over that.

And people say about my " generalisations ".

The big difference between bird flu and swine fever is that there have been 149 deaths in Mexico up to now, and further confirmed cases in other countries. With the bird flu, the virus didn't seem able to transfer very easily between humans (although there were deaths from that as well) but this strain seems to have developed that ability quite well.

It remains to be seen whether this will be another scare story, but I don't think it does any harm to at least be wary and vigilant if you or friends/family are traveling to places such as Mexico where there have been deaths icon_wink.gif

And that's right and proper in my opinion. The government are kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't. It's all very well people saying "it's a complete load of old tosh", but if the government ignored the warnings and did nothing because bird flu amounted to nothing, I'm sure those same people would be up in arms that nobody was vaccinated icon_wink.gif

But what vaccination?

Unfortunately the authorities will have to wait until the strain is identified then the antidote can be developed. Until then we have to take our chances.

Simple measures will help, thats why the wash your hands after sneezing is advertised on the telly. I.e. catch it, bin it and kill it.

We have had lots of influenza type pandemics this century........with the biggest in 1918-19. It is not new and there is nothing that we can do unless we stockpile an antidote for every possible strain......and cost wise this is impractical.
