Basically what your saying is you now have a different telcoms provider that you didn't actually sign up with? Or am I way off!

we have no phone line anymore registered to this address, phones and net connection dead as a dodo..

only access to the outside world now is via the pda i use and roses mobile phone,, we have spoke to everyone we can i think police offcom tiscali bt ..even the postoffice to see if they could set up a new contract..they do short term ones , but they tell us there is a bar on anyone taking over our old number ..we are apparently under contract with an unknown telecom company!! unknown for now offcom should be letting us know very soon who 'they' are..

staggy (amazed this can happen) and it can happen to any of you or your businesses

Have you asked your original service provider how someone was able to snatch your number from them yet they're not able to get it back? seems like a major failing on their part.
Might also me worth contacting your local MP, see if you can apply a little pressure to get this raised as a problem in parliament, it's about time they did something useful for all the money they've bled out of us

it happens aqll the time..99.9 per cent of the time legally its how it works all you have to be is a telecom company and you can do this..

as for tiscali apart from not notifying me at all they have done no wrong..well on the face of it they havent.. im hoping offcom can get to the bottom of that..rumor has it some companies are dropping users for commercial reasons.. wouldnt be difficult for a large telecom company to set up several small ones separately to do the snatching,, whats more the only company that seemed to have no problem with issuing me my number back was bt.. the company i left to join tiscali.. conspiracy theories abound both here and at offcom unoficially of course,, time will tell

btw the police tell the maqximum fine for slamming is 10 per cent of the companies annual turn over .. not that anyone ever gets prosecuted of course

Tiscali shouldn't have allowed your broadband to be transferred without receiving a valid MAC ( Migration Authorisation Code) number from whoever took your line. Tiscali shouldn't have issued that MAC to anyone who could not prove without doubt that they were you! sue them ....

and things get a little clearer..BT are responsible for this OFFCOM have got back to me,,now as far as i can make out this is how it caqme about

bt were approached by a third party .. lets say mr w he sed 'i have moved into this adress',, ie my address.. how that came about ive no idea.. 'anyway i want a phone popping in please' bt sed 'no problem' and im guessing assumed we had moved out..

they contacted BT wholesale who hand out the contracts and told them to cancel this number at this adress.. so bt wholesale contaqcted the scapmany that held the account on that line.. ie my service provider Tiscali and told them to cancel that account.. they did as they were asked .. i guess relevent mac codes were issued HJ..

that pretty much did the damage to me, however sorting the error out is turning into a frigging nightmare.. only BT can put this error right im told.. but they cant as they do not have a process to implement that corrects this mistake.. i cant even take out a new contract with BT as there appears to be a contract already on this property by Mr W which needs to be ended etc .. how the hell they will get hold of him god only knows as no one seems to know where he lives lol and of course his phone just rings out and out.. ive tried it as offcom gave me the numer registered to this address..

currently im sitting here waiting for a return call from BT services , that will be the thirtieth return call they have promised me from the thirtieth person that has promised me that he /she would be the person that will sort this out..as of yet not one call has been returned.. ive spent im guessing over fifteen hours on my mobile fone the last 24 hrs spoke to in excess of A HUNDRED different people at 5 different companies, Rose has been in tears off and on and no matter what i do we seem to be without a phone for a minimum of two weeks and then they cant even guarantee that our number will be the one we had before.. we run two businesses from here and an animal sanctuary .. currently im guessing anyone ringing it will think we have become victims of the recession and gone bust!

you would think that when someone screws your life up like this they would be the ones to rectify it,, but no its all down to me to drag the pieces back together and to be honest right now i feel like saying fuck it and ringing a solicitor!

About 5 years ago I had my gas changed to another company by an unknown person. The first I got to know about it when my provider sent me my final bill and a letter to say sorry you are leaving.

It took 7 months to sort out and at the end I didn't get a gas bill.

I stayed shtumm and got 7 months free gas.

One last resort option might be to get another BT line installed and then cancel the other. This normally costs £122-50, but they have a promotion at zero cost for a new or second line - but it ends on 30 June.

Some years ago, we had a problem with our business line supplied by BT.

In the end, this was sorted by ringing BT Head Office in London and asking to speak to the Chairman's Secretary. I asked for full details of the Chairman's full name and address to which a "closing order" on BT's business be made to the High Court, the sort of order that puts all their Bank Accounts on hold.

Well, it didn't get that far. We had a nice lady telephone us back full of apology. She worked for the Serious Complaints Office (or something similar) and after we had explained our problem, she had the whole matter dealt with in hours.

With organisations like BT, you need to hit them where it hurts as far up the tree as you can go. Don't be fobbed off. Go to the top.

We were also advised at the time that BT have a local Business office. We later found them to helpful too in resolving issues.

for the past hour or so ive been chatting to Ruth.. probably the very same lady that you spoke to in high level complaints, she was simply amazing, she understood every issue i was raising , she never once asked mea stupid question or ask me to repeat the spelling of my name , she was respectful caring considerate and guess what rang me back!!! omg to have someone from bt actually ring me back.. HIGH LEVEL COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT.. im told copies of complaints at this level go to the chairman of bt whoever he is.. how did i get the number ..well on almost reaching my wits end today, i rang offcom again.. they gave it me,,why didnt they do this three days ago????

gnv it seems we have reached a similar end to this story although its far from over yet, apart from suggesting i may burn down BTs offices at one stage if i wasnt put through to someone that could deal with this matter..( then to save me getting locked saying i was joking of course) and it worked btw..i have been polite and couteous to thoswe i have spoken to.. im honestly godsmacked at how we have been given the run around,,

if anyone wants BTs high level complaints number you have to go first to offcome for a referal number then ASK them for BTS high level complaints , by taking this rout i reckon you could save yourselves hundred if not thousands of pounds worth of mobile phone calls to what is possible the worst mulitple choice phone switchboard in the world!!

for instance .. can you imagine anyone at BT not having a facility that allows them to make outside calls to customers..well guess what the service options department, im told the next best thing to high level complaints.. have no DIAL OUT FACILITY i kid you not ffs this is BRITISH TELECOM WEARE TALKING ABOUT HERE!!!!

WOW!

I'm so glad I posted what I did WRATS; I wasn't going to because it was about 5 or 6 years ago we had our problem and I wasn't sure the same facilities would be in place.

Come to think of it, I think it might have been Ruth who dealt with us. As you can see from my post, I didn't quite get the name of the department right but hey, it worked for you and I am so pleased thumbup.gif

any chance of a shag?
