I'm thinking of trying to get away for a week in October, maybe just for five days or so. It's been a while since I had a holiday abroad and I have never been away by myself.

I was just wondering if anyone has been away on their own and if they had advice?

I don't really want to do one of those singles holidays and I'm happy with my own company. I've travelled abroad on my own before on several occasions, but have always met someone there.

Any thoughts on where might be do-able or any practical tips for a solo holiday-er?

Hi,

I'm flying solo in a little over a weeks time, and am soooo looking forward to it. I've long wanted to do something on my own as most of my travels have been either family or cos of visiting friends.

I'm going to take my fav books, ipod, pen and paper and good walking shoes for when i fancy walking and just enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyy the moments. Personally i am not going cos i am looking for adventure, but more cos i want to just sit still for a bit, and quieten my noisy head!

As for tips, i'll let you know when i'm back lol.

Take care
Sx

Holidaying solo is absolute crap, the worst experience possible.

You should take me with you to keep all those letching men away...

My Mum went on a cruise on her own a few years ago and had the best time! I like weekends away on my own to just chill out sometimes but not sure I'd want to spend a week alone icon_confused.gif

I went away for four months on my own.

I joined a great website before I went away. They have a forum for almost every country and most organise meets. If you get fed up of your own company or fancy a night out its good to have that option. They also give great ideas on where to eat/drinks, buy and what to see etc.

I also did a lot of research before I went - so I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do or see.

In some countries - being a woman on your own can be a bit iffy, especially for blondes. Again - that's where your research comes in. Always good to know local issues before you go.

I moved to a different country all on my own and discovered a lot of things about travelling alone. Staying at a B&B is a really good idea as it's more personal than a large hotel, giving you a chance to make new friends and learn new places to see and things to do that you might not have before.

Travelling alone also forces you out of your shell and comfort zone a lot more, great for discovering who you are and for making new friends that you wouldn't have done so otherwise.

Don't go to Rhyll though, it's a dumb!
