im thinking of asking admin to possibly introduce a block button on the site, im interested in finding out peoples feelings on this issue before i ask. the block button can be used to block pestly people or people you just dont get on with ie fallen out with. i know you can disable ur whisper button on chat and can change ur settings in people that can contact you via messages. please leave your thoughts thankyou mands xxxxx

u can ignore the mgs u get in ur inbox, if u click the ignore button, u wont get mail from them again

but a block button where u can not see them in chat or they cant see ur profile would be a good thing, ive got enough stalkers on here that im trying to avoid icon_wink.gif

i think it will get more interest with open legs, if u mention it to people in the chat room and then send them the link to this post they can comment on it

I can see the benefits of being able to block people in chat.
In the old one, you could put them on "ignore" which was handy but I think the fear is it might create even more clique-ness (yes, the dreaded C word!)and that could drive people away from using that facility at all. Not good for business!

Gets my vote Mands.

It's often the best way to diffuse a situation before it can really start. We've all been in a chatroom at some point I'm sure when it gets heated and rather nasty.

Don't blame you. I have experienced enough of that side myself but just report 'em if they're nasty or break the rules.
I'm not against the block button, I'm just not sure admin would go for it as it's possibly not in the site's best interests.

Anyway .. will let you get back to your debate! icon_smile.gif

lol if that would be admins answer my reply would be is it in your interest if more people leave, as ive known a few. £50 is a lot of money to join and another £20 for Xtras, there are alot of sites out there that are cheaper and some free that are mostly run just as well as this site. ive been in swinging for about 5 years now, and if this site continues to be of use to me with things other sites off, i wouldnt mind spending the money per year and would pay again and again each year xxxx

Looking at this from a chatroom's op point of view....

All of the trouble makers would instantly put all the chat op's on block and then they wouldn't see any of the warnings before their screens go grey.

So immediately I can see that an over-ride would be needed.

As to your comments on other, lesser used sites have this facility I can totally agree how the option appearing on those sites would make it seem as though it would be possible.

I've been in many discussions on the development of the chatroom with admin and the biggest problem with additional features in here is the high volume of users renders most chat systems prone to crashing on a regular basis.

The theory behind a block button sounds quite appealing. However the application may not be quite so straight forward.

Is there not a place for you to put your ideas for new chat when you sign on??

Just add whatever you would like to see and I am sure that if admin can do it and it will make the site better, then they will.

One thing that I know for sure is, admin strive to make this the best site on the net and are continually improving it as they go along.

Although some of the improvements are not to everyone's liking icon_wink.gif

The old saying springs to mind here" you can please some of the people some of the time etc"

We used to have our own room on occasion .......if people got too abusive we would kick them ..

Don`t know what the rules are now but back then it was against the rules to kick people without warning them first !! icon_rolleyes.gif

We occasionally kicked the worst offenders without warning .....so I can only assume that they never complained or that somebody checked the logs and decided that we were behaving reasonably ..

I really can`t see the point of a block button.....ignore them or report them thumbup.gif

Just wanted to add that if you are receiving abuse from other members then you can use the 'report' button on their profile and Admin will look at the logs and take appropriate action. No means no and it's your choice to meet or not meet who you want, receiving abuse for the choices you make is unacceptable. Please either do that or drop one of the chatops a PM and report it that way.

I agree with ian chat ops would be instantly blocked and it would be hard for adin to filter the so they could be safe from it...however a few sites n chatrooms over the years have had the room ops doindg the blocking IE you go to them with the coplaint and if they decide you have a decent reason they will activate the block feature.
Can it be done on here, i dunno.

I like the idea of a little more control over who we are contacted by and how. This is something that we have asked for several times when we have been asked our opinion on how to improve the site. It could work, really it could!

Chat-Ops would need an override, but that's no major problem, it's only a simple piece of code. In all honesty a chat-op isn't likely to bother anyone so nobody would try blocking them anyway, apart from the minority of people that cause grief in the chat room in the first place. As I said before, a simple piece of code rendering them unblockable would prevent this from being an issue.

Other block options could be explored to prevent 'some' of the problems that occur. For example, wouldn't it be nice to be able to block certain people from seeing your profile? either as an individual or as a demographic group. Imagine it as a reverse of the current search facility whereby you select the types of profiles you don't want to be able to see your profile, rather than the type of profile you want to see. Of course this might lead to a lot of people blocking single male profiles, lol.

Yes it's true that this might lead people to upload spoof profiles, but there are verification methods used on other sites that SH could learn from.
