So the NUM has finally after all these years at last given Scargill, what they should have given him back in the 80's..........the boot.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1306127/Miners-hero-Arthur-Scargill-expelled-union-doesnt-qualify.html

This man helped to destroy the miners and the Union. Yes of course the Tory Government at that time under Thatcher were partly to blame, and of course there will be those that blame Thatcher for it but..........remember the NUM brought down Heaths Government and that was before Thatcher had even come to power.

When the NUM led by mad horse Scragill then decided to use their power once again, they found out they were up against a completely different animal in Thatcher. After months of the NUM's members being out on national strike, with all the intimidation that went with it, they lost. They were humiliated back to work with their tails firmly between their legs, and the NUM were never the same again.

Thatcher smashed them to such a degree that they became powerless and leaderless.

Now the once mighty and powerful NUM have decided that Scargill no longer can be a member of this once great union anymore. Of course he says he will fight the decision, but just like before he will lose.

It is a shame that the NUM did not have the same attitude back in the 80's for if they had then maybe we would still have a mining industry.

I for one did smile when I read this report, as for him this is the ultimate humiliation....even worse than Thatchers defeat of him and his union.

I smiled because Scargill helped to destroy the NUM and it's membership, solely for his own agendas. He thought he was so powerful that nobody or nothing could touch him back then.....how wrong he was. Now he is just a pathetic figure just as he was on the day the miners were forced back to work.

I hope we never see the days again of a person holding so much power, that he is untouchable, and helps to destroy thousands of peoples lives, just because of his own altered ego.

Didn't I read recently (must have been about May) that he set up a special conference to appoint himself as "life time president" and that he has been milking the NUM funds to the tune of millions to fund the "grace and favour" apartment mentioned in the article? The travel allowance is presumably linked to that. This grace and favour apartment was effectively "hidden" in the depths of the NUM accounts and in any other circumstances would be regarded as being theft.

It is said that the only reason this idiot is still with us is that he wants to outlive Mrs Thatcher so he can dance on her grave...

oh, please icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes GNV I have heard all of that as well. Financial irregularities...I wonder what that means exactly?

Was he on the take?

The guy is deluded now as he was all those years ago, and the stigma of being battered by Maggie still haunts him to this day.

He may well outlive Maggie but it matters not one jot. She will be there waiting for him to give him another battering....some people just never learn that others are more cleverer and smarter than ones self.

He is still a bitter and twisted old man as came across in an article I read about six months ago....he still thinks that he defeated Maggie ffs. For Maggie she probably cannot even remember this weasel of a man, and even if she does to her he is just one of many who she crushed.

All good things come to those who wait GNV. icon_wink.gif and the time has come for Scargill to at last realise that his beloved union and the power it once held, is finished....along with him.

Sleep well Arthur baby. icon_lol.gif

Yes worth a few bob Rob. Certainly much humbler abode than the miners, who were living in the Welsh valleys in very basic homes.

No different to today's union big wigs.

I wonder what the Mother of all Socialists house is like? Prescott the new Lord. icon_lol.gif

Mind you though Blair has a lovely nice new portfolio of houses now too.

Ah the Socialists dream of equality for all eh? As long as nobody has what they have...what a bunch of two faced hypocrites.

Not really a lot of difference if you blink quick enough eh?

I wonder what these decent hard working miners would make of it all now?

You can never understand the miners strike unless you come from a mining area ......your take on the history of it is distorted to say the least....have fun back slapping

Ah.........so what part of the history is wrong then?

Is it the part that Scargill decimated the NUM?

Or is it the part that Thatcher Humiliated him and the NUM?

Or is it the part that the miners went scurrying back to work with their tales between their legs, dejected and beaten?

Or is it possibly the part that the NUM had become so powerful that they actually brought a Government down?

What a ridiculous comment to say nobody can understand unless they come from a mining area.....utter nonsense.

People can understand perfectly well what Scargill did to those miners and their families, it does not take a genius to realise that Scargill did it for his own hatred of Thatcher, and to this day is a defeated man.

Those of us old enough to remember the treatment of those who dared to stand in the way of the NUM, the police and the " scabs ". Intimidation and violence were the only tools Scargill and his thugs had. They used those to great effect on the decent miners who did not want to strike.

Your not possibly coming from the same school of thought as the mad deluded Scragill still is.............are you?

The industry is finished.....the NUM are buried, and for Scargill even his days of belonging to his once powerful union, is finished. Nothing left for the man to cling onto, not even in his dreams.

I picketed in Kent, with Kent miners. As usual, you appear to know fuck all about the things of which you speak.

Same old...........same old.

No hidden agendas there with you then?

IF and I did use the word IF you picketed with Kent miners........don't worry as I do not believe for a second that you did.

My opinion of course.

You have an opinion about whether I did what I did? That's interesting.....

There's certainly no hidden agenda. I did what I did. You don't want to believe that? Good luck to you Kenty.

Incidentally, you're doing a neat job of ad hominem evasion, attacking me to ignore the fact that your crass point about miners in South Wales ignores the fact that there were miners in more places than just South Wales. I picketed with guys from Kent, Scotland, Durham, Northumberland, South Wales, North Wales and Staffordshire...

What I love about this site is that it seems there is nothing someone has not done, or nothing that if they have not done it they know someone who did. Blimey I bet if we did a thread on people walking in space, I am sure someone here would have done it, or know someone that did...........interesting indeedy.

The miners strike was 1984-1985, your age is 44 apparently cos I had a little gander. Now that in my book would make you a very young man when the strike started.

I find it strange how a young man would go the width and breadth of England, to support the miners. An odd one for a young man to do who is not a miner. Still you were probably at the Poll tax riots too. See what higher education can do? icon_lol.gif

AnyWAY the thread was not about you, but as usual you come in make out your an expert in the subject.

My points were labeled at Scargill which are fact, and the miners were defeated....fact. The NUM is finished..........fact. So I am somewhat confused by your comment......

I seem to know a fair bit actually, but not as much as someone who was there, picketing and intimidating, obviously.

If you would like to enlighten me as to what I know " fuck all about " I would be really interested.

Aha! a Scargill groupie then? Now that's individuality!!

Most other teenagers would have been following The Stones...

It is a shame that these threads are all too often brought down to the level of personal insults rather than grown up debate
