So you want to post a picture in your reply but don't know how to do it.
Welcome to Meaty's guide to picture posting.
The picture needs to be saved to your hard drive (your 'My Pictures' folder would be a good place) and then hosted on an online server so the SH system can access them. There are several sites that provide this service and they are free on registration (it's ok, they don't spam you). Below are some easy to follow instructions for two such sites.
www.Photobucket.com
register and activate (follow the instructions, you only need to do this once)
Add the homepage to your favourites for quick access
select browse (next to picture and find your image)
submit and then scroll to your album below
copy the img link (click it and copy <ctrl c>)
return to SH and paste it <ctl v> into your thread reply at the position you want it displayed
preview it to check it's ok
www.imageshack.us/
register and activate (follow the instructions, you only need to do this once)
Add the homepage to your favourites for quick access
click browse and select your pic
click host it
copy the hotlink for forums link (click it and copy the highlighted text <ctl c>)
return to SH and paste it <ctl v> into your thread reply at the point you want it to appear
preview it to check it's ok
Finally
add 'Thank you Meaty, you are a genius
' to the bottom of your first picture post
Avatar's
For those of you having trouble with you avatar (the little picture on the left, under your name) you need to make sure it's within the SH avatar specifications, i.e. it must be no more than 102x102 pixels and no bigger than 20kb file size. So how do you do this? Well, from your profile setup page you can either choose a library avatar or use you own. This can be resized using the following page

Don't ask me how to use it as i use Photoshop for mine, but i believe it's quite simple.
If you wish to check the spec of a picture you want to use, find it on your hard drive with Windows Explorer and move your cursor over the file for it's details (dimensions, file type and file size)
Meat you may have an ugly avatar but your quite helpful when you want to be.
Cheers for the info
awww meaty are they calling u ugly m8

Testing 1,2,3,

Meaty, what about the pictures that are already hosted on the web? Do we have to put them into photobucket too?
<--------- loves being annoying.
Hurray for Tanis!
Meaty's thread explained it far better than my PMs did!
glad to see you got there in the end.
so can we now expect to see a wealth of pics from you?
Opps sorry
Thank you Meaty you are a genius

yep, the system works on a certain format so you will see

in your posts text body, just right click & save as, then follow the instructions.
if you want to use a picture from another thread, use the quote feature and copy the [img] body, then write your reply as normal and paste it in
For all those pretty pictures you may find on the net but you don't have time to save them and upload them to photobucket... you can link directly to them.
For Internet Explorer users:
Find the picture.
Right click on the image and go to properties.
You will see the Address (URL) of the image.
Highlight the address and copy it.
Go back to your post and paste in the address you've just copied.
Highlight this address and press the Img button.
For Netscape/Firefox users:
Find the pretty picture and right click it.
Choose the 'copy image location'
Paste it into your post
Highlight it and click the Img button.
You will notice that the image address will have two tags around them.
an these are the key to linking to the image.

Sorry Meaty, you beat me to it.[/edit]
sometimes it pays to come first
Ignore daft ignorant suggestion which was here. ![]()
