hiya Angel Chat..... icon_smile.gif

I am sorry, what I said wasn,t directed towards to you at all. It was a *very* general (shouldn't make genralisations I know) statement from my own experiences of working with disaffected teenagers in an area with high teenage pregancies, STD's, disfunctional families etc etc. Maybe I didnt express what I wanted to say very well.

To me it made a pleasant change to see parents being open and honest with young people about sex, not necessarily *swinging* and the parents involvement in the lifestyle.

From my own personal point of view as a parent/mother, no I dont discuss my sex life with my children and have no wish to. I couldn't think of anything worse than swapping stories/experiences eeeekkkk...... icon_confused.gif

Right enough waffling.......

like everyone else so far i was impressed with the programme...

the one thing i was fearing was that it would sensationalise everything.. thus giving the general public the wrong impression...but it was very fair and balanced and hopefully will enocurage people who have been thinking about it to take the next step....because as we all know , the perseption is rather different to the reality

I think the programme definately put across that "normal" people are swingers and that were not all freaks or something equally daft, but im not so sure about the saxaphone playing at Liberation though icon_confused.gif

I was thrilled to watch this programme, it didn't sensationalise anything or make it seem seedy.....

Let's hope they maintain this level throughout.

BTW, for anyone who missed it I'm planning on taping all the episodes so if anyone wants to borrow it let me know.....

What a refreshing change....

A programme that highlighted the social aspect of swinging as well as the sex side. I thought it was really well done and showed how swingers are people who have decided to move their relationships forwards in this way. There was nothing seedy about it and it was very informative... just watch for the influx of new members on the back of it!!! The people involved were very much like those we have met through the community, ordinary people who just want something extra, not sex obsessed freaks as some portrayls would have us believe.

I thought the comment from the srage was interesting when he said that 70% of the adult population would like a go, anyone else agree with this statement?
Also the programme suggested there are 500,000 active swingers out there, do you think this is a good estimate?

Well done channel 5, I'll be recording again next week!

I know i posted this topic but i was genuinely, pleasantly surprised. Ms Mc G and myself had discussed swinging and joined this site and another one, we managed to get an invite to a recent party but due to Ms Mc G's reservations and babysitting probs we had to pull out!!! I taped this programme and hope to show her the whole series and persuade her its something we should try. Hopefully the series will continue to present a balanced view of this subject.

In everyones view what was more representative of the swinging lifestyle? I liked the Radlett attitude and set up, but my darling GF has stated that she would feel happier in a club set up because there would be bouncers whom would intervene if she said no and the person being told "no" didn't stop! Which would you push as newbie? Club and formality or someones party/house and relaxation?

i have to dissagree with the 70% comment.... ffs even on a swingers website i reckon only 70 percent want to swing... so how can he say that such a high proportion of people in the general population feel that way?
anyhow.. not to worry.. that was but the opinion of one person.. it was in no way a scietifically proven conclusion... so it doesnt mean a thing! icon_rolleyes.gif

i actually thought the program gave a very acurate view of swinging.....we came accross looking NORMAL and it also showed how there are different things to suit different tastes.

i did at one point woinder about the pig in the living room at radlet.. please someone tell me that its not the medieval banquet steve is taking us to!!!!! icon_confused.gif lol

i already had it in mind to give liberation a try.... though i still dont think it looks as nice as utopia..... but can someone please advise me if the saxophone playing is still going on.. and if so.. what time would i best arriving so as to avoid it?!!! icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Her concerns are understandable and it's not something us guys really have to worry about but I've never seen that sort of pushiness - but I still see myself as a relative newbie so could be wrong - my general impression of the scene is that people aren't over pushy and everyone knows that 'No, means no'. I also believe that were people to witness someone being harrassed like that, they'd take action and intervene. The transgressor would almost certainly be ejected from the club or party.

We like everyone else watched the programme.

We obviuously had an interest having been to the Radlett party last month. As we said it was strange watching it on the TV, we've been there, we spoke to her, we chatted to him etc....

'The Loft' brought back some interesting memories...lol

We aren't too sure about Liberation, i think it is just a little too formal for us and the sax... well, thats just not us.

Radlett was only our second party, and i have to say, for anyone 'new' or contemplating going to a party, this was a very relaxed, no pressure environment. Susie particularly enjoyed the 'dance' area with the pole and demonstrated some skills round it.

I agree with everyone elses comments on how good and refreshing the programme was, and made a nice change from portraying the swinging lifestyle in a seedy manner as is such with most documentaries associated with 'alternative' lifestyles.

We may be going next week Saturday (Couples only)

Couldn't agree more! Big G and I watched the doc, and smiled when a few familiar faces crossed the screen. I was horrified when they put the dead pig on the table though. Thousands of health and safety infringements sprung to mind (Ok, my age is clearly being defined in this post)

Liberation's looks like a fun place, if not a bit a winy bit pretentious. If I were sharing a nice bottle of wine and a lovely meal with Big G, I'd rather go to a restaurant. I think it crosses purposes if at one stage in the evening, you burn numerous brain cells pondering about which fork to use with the appetiser or whether your wine compliments your beef wellington and then wondering where you left your panties floating in the spa or hanging from the top of the leather swing.

For me, swinging clubs should reflect the reason you are there. To be inhibited, wild and reckless. This of course, is my own personal opinion and I respect that everyone wants something different out of the scene.

I agree with most comments too, didnt make it sound dirty or seedy, and good that they pointed out that that all walks of life visit these places. Being in South Herts, we will be looking at visiting the Radlett party (if we can get in now after being on tv!).

I did like the look of Liberation, but did seem a bit pretentious, although i loved the amount of effort and money they have obviously poured into the place, and look at the size of that jacuzzi!! WOW!

And last comment, i think ive sound a niche in the business market for babysitting for swingers! I have no family close to me and most sitters dont want to babysit until 6am which is when we generally get home after swinging/nightclubbing, so we need more overnight babysitters! Maybe some of us should set up a babysitting circle, in our own areas lol

I only go to clubs when my partner is here, as many of you know, he lives abroad.
I don't feel comfortable going without him so if anyone needs a babysitter desperately..... but not this weekend because we are at the munch!
I usually have flexible plans and I can do my uni work while your children sleep!
PM me if you want to....

Hi Guys

Watching the program last night it brought back many many memories. I recognised at least 75% of the people involved and have played with about 40% of them. I have not visited liberation and to be honest have no real plans to.

The program was good and pretty factual but one thing really put me off - did you not listen when she was telling the girl to sort out the VIDEO CAMERA in Room 5. Its hidden are they filming unsuspecting couples? This would worry me as some people have two lives - their ordinary 9 - 5 and then they have their swinging lifestyle. Am I just being parnoid? I would hope it was only a slip of the tongue but you never know.

I'm going to watch it again and check that - but I think she said hide it in there i.e. it's where they hide their personal affects incase someone's got sticky fingers I presume!

with regard to the video camera....

On their website, they say that 'some' items have been stolen, electrical goods, CD's software, books etc.... so i can only presume they meant to hide it in bedroom 5 (there are a couple of rooms that are not used for the parties)

Just like to add that after watching the documentary the impression i got was that the video camera was being hidden from stealing hands rather than being hidden to film people. I can understand it if these people are inviting up to 100 strangers into their houses.

:

The figures that are banded about for certain activities are about as accurate as a tribesman's spear in a nuclear war. According to some statistics one in four men cross dress on a regular basis and we in the trans community know this is probably massively incorrect. Other authorities claim one in 20 and this is doubtful too so I don't hold a lot of store by statistics as a general rule. I don't really know how they even start to collate these figures. I think we need a few more episodes of the same to form a more valid opinion of the two venues. Those on here that have been and sampled it certainly give it a good score and it looked very impressive albeit a little bit pretentious. But there are always those that have something negative to say and its a little surprising we have not heard from anyone on here that didn't think it was absolutely wonderful. So, we will see what else comes out of the woodwork, hopefully nothing.

With regard to the children being involved in any shape or form then to me it was a real no no. I know it would be difficult to keep it from them in the situation that was portrayed on the program and perhaps that is why it should be kept away from the home completely. If they want to do anything remotely connected with swinging or their own sexual orientation at least let them do it without the help from the parents and away from any influences. As a transgender support helper and some one who has seen the disastrous results of family members who have seen too much (not in my own case) then I am only too aware of the consequences of knowing too much too soon. Teenagers today have enough to cope with regarding their own sexuality and the stress of studying for college/ Uni, careers and in some cases within dysfunctional family life without any added pressures, just my opinion thats all. It all looks fine on the surface and we think they are handling it in a mature and sensible way but we really don't know what is going on deep down at this tender age. I am aware that all cases are different and some teenagers can cope with side issues better than others but I didn't really see the need to televise the children at all, again just my opinion. I am of the view that they grow up fast enough today, too fast in some cases.

What was nice to see was the clean cut image it portrayed of the swinging scene and in the long run it should prove to be beneficial to the bigger picture of who and what we are. When we scrape away the surface of anything that is secretive and covert we usually find it is never as bad as what we thought, heres hoping the public at large will see this too. I just hope they don't drop any bombshells later on, after all this is Television and worse it is Chanel 5 and not the BBC. Perhaps I'm just being a bit of a pessimist
