Just downloaded firefox and have started using that but the first thing i do when i switch the pc on is check my emails through msn this still opens in windows ie, will it always open in ie? going through msn or is it just something that needs changing in settings?
Quite happy with it so far though thumbup.gif

Hi TK - download StuffPlug 3 and you can set the options to open up all your msn emails via your default browser i.e. Firefox rather than IE - works a treat icon_biggrin.gif

Since I have downloaded service pack two, if I haven't got ac power plugged into my laptop, the graphics don't work as well... getting vertical lines across my screen, and my wallpaper doesn't load either.

I am worried about downloading service pack 3, is it a critical download? or can I get away with not having it, as apart from graphics, everything else works ok.

A friend mentioned that the graphics need more power... please can someone clarify?

Thank you!!

Ps I have been a firefox convert for nearly three years... much better than ie!!

If it's just limited to a graphics problem I'd suggest getting the latest drivers from your video card manufacturer's website.

When you create a new post you'll see an "Img" button up amongst the buttons above the message box you type in. It's the second from the right.

You either find an image you want to include somewhere on the 'net or you can host one yourself somewhere like Flikr or Imagebucket etc then all you have to do is type the web address to the image. Then highlight the link you just typed then click on the Img button. It will change your text to this:
Code:

[img]http://www.imagehost.com/someimage.jpg[/img]

Alternatively if you wish to type the tags yourself then that's fine too. Another way to do it is to click the Img button, which will put the opening tag in. Type the web address then click the Img button again and it will complete the tag for you.

Not sure about the sites mentioned but photobucket gives you the link for forum/bullitin boards and you dont need to type in [img] or anything just copy and paste the link

Hi Gary, since installing Service Pack 3 I have been unable to download and install Microsoft updates, a couple of them critical. The download/install fails every time I try. Like a numpty I didn't create a system restore point before installing Service Pack 3 or I would have tried to reverted back to 2 !!! Tried various things, closing down Zone Alarm, using IE instead of my Firefox which is my default browser....any help would be very much appreciated - Bri

Apparently this is proving to be a common problem with people who have applied SP3, There isn't really answer to it other than to reinstall as it was such a major patch it would be almost impossible to do a manual uninstall.

What I can recommend doing though (I did it and haven't had any problems at all) is to use the SP3 redistributable patch (about 300+Mb) and your XP install CD to do what's called a "streamlined" SP3 version of the install. Here's how you do it.

Thanx Peanut a reinstall solved the prob. I will create a new XP disk with integrated SP3 particularly since I have an always on internet connection - cheers once again m8 much appreciated thumbup.gif

Hi not sure if this will help but.....in your options on msn you have a privacy tab....in there is the allow and block list.....it lists all the folks you have allowed and all the folks you have blocked (obviously icon_smile.gif).....you can unblock folks simply in there.....

Cheers Gary icon_smile.gif

Hi...
Have you tried connecting camera to pc or putting card in a card reader?? DO not format the card !!!. Pics will be lost....When a card is first used in a digi cam it normally needs foramtting b4 you use it....I would go for the card reader method...but if your cam can access the pics and show them then it should be able to export them....keep me posted Gary xxx

We have a card reader for the lappy that does not import the pics either the pc and printer have inbuild card slots/readers. will find the cables and try through the camera instead of just the cards

Let me guess? It's a 2Gb or above SD card?

Most SD cards are pre-formatted in the FAT (FAT16) filing system and whilst the camera devices can recognise the extra file space, Windows based devices cannot recognise any more than absolute limit of 2Gb (and there's slightly more than 2Gb space on a 2Gb card).

So basically it's a limitation of Windows I'm afraid. The only option round it is to use the camera as the reader and directly connect it to the PC using the USB (or whatever) lead.

The other fly in the ointment is that card readers haven't kept up with increases in memory space. There is a new standard called SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) which allows greater than 4Gb capacity.
