any ideas what i can do? someone has lent my original disk out so i can't even reinstall it.

are there any other free programs that i can download that will detect and install hardware?

thanks

Sorry, there's no 3rd parties apps that I know of that will do so as it's an integral part of XP itself.

The only real way of replacing corrupted files is to replace them from your original Windows disc, even then it may not run right as there could be registry corruption too which may not get sorted by doing a reinstall.

hi whips,

there should be an option when you first boot up your computer to roll back to factory settings.

i think it is alt f12.

the only thing i would say is make sure you back up to either disk or another drive anything you don't want to lose.

The recycle bin is a special shortcut and can't actually be deleted permanently.

Right-click an empty area of your desktop
Select Properties
Click the Desktop tab
Click the Customize button
Click Restore Default
Exit all windows and restart your computer

In that case, rather than writing a whole thesis on the subject it may be easier if I give you a link icon_smile.gif http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/how-to-recover-or-restore-a-missing-recycle-bin-icon-in-windows-vista/

My computer has been infected with a pop up bill from Platte Media. I have never subscribed to this, in fact I had never heard of them before. I've run AVG and deleted whatever the scan found but it keeps coming back.
