Hi I hope this thread is still active as lots of people seem to have had their techie issues resolved.

I have posted my problem in the chatroom forum but it was before I found this thread so apologies in advance.

My problem relates to the chatroom and here goes,

I have no probs entering chat, however after a short period of time (anything from 30 secs to 5 mins) the page freezes

You dont even notice anything has happened, it is just as if people have gone quiet and the flow of chat has stopped.

The emoticons still roll around, my cursor moves, I can check out profiles etc, at first I thought it was lag, then I realised I couldnt change my status from online to busy/idle etc and if i typed and pressed enter then nothing appeared.

To resolve this I simply change to another room on the same server and back to the original room, trouble is by the time I have said "Hello" again, I am back to square one and frozen again.

If I do pop a cam on wether my own or another users then I am guaranted it will freeze in seconds.

I have the latest version of flash, have no other programs opened I have changed to IE 8 & installed service pack 3 (I'm using XP)
I have deleted temp/cookies etc
cleaned up, defraged etc

The only thing I can think of is wireless internet (I am using 3)

I have absolutely no other problems on this site or any others including other chatrooms.

I would be so so very grateful if anyone can help me put an end to this.

Thanks In Advance
xxx

Hi have you tried using firefox instead of the dreaded internet explorer it is far better and a free stand alone web browser. It is not a microsoft product but is far better.....more stable, secure etc
You can get it from....
http://www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/
This may solve a lot of problems you have encountered and once tried you never go back icon_smile.gif

not with an answer though I'm afraid, another question:

now then, this here Lappy used to be wireless, but it isn't any longer, I know not why. Has been that way for a while now and I have coped with the old ethernet conection. But I'm getting a little fed up now.

it appears my router is all in working order, though it cannot detect a wireless card in the lappy.

there used to be one... it worked!

where the wireless 'switch' is, now shows an orange light, neverto go blue in the good old days.

anyone have an incling as to how a wireless card can evaporate like that?
lp

OK now this may be a step too far but the wifi card inside your laptop is a little pcb about 40mm x 20mm.
It is usally located under one of the removable flaps under neath your lappie. It has 2 wires goin to it which clip onto the card via some rubbishing crimps. These may just need reseating to make connection. Have done this before to my better halfs laptop and cured her prob.

Gary, Thankyou !!!

The firefox is so cool, I entered the chatroom after installing the reccomended plug ins and all was well, I was chatting away happily and then it happened again (although this time it was slightly different) there was a message at the bottom left hand corner

"waiting" and then the IP addy and when I looked my wireless internet dongle was only on one bar, when I am on my usual 3 bars all is well.

Cant Thankyou enough and am so very grateful for you taking the time to help me xxx

if you stick another type of usb device into your pc/laptop. do you get a pop up tell you the device would run faster on usb2.0?

I've had problems before with usb wireless dongles running on pc's/laptop with old (usb1.0/1). I won't bother you with an explanation.

WOW there's 24 pages on this thread.

I can't be bothered sifting through it all but if anyone has any Mac problems, get in touch as I'm an Apple Engineer.

well... I went in bravely... there were wires... and what I thought may have been the gizmo you pictured... however, the wires were atatched, and the gizmo looked alittledifferent.
no change though sadly.

however... I do feel as if Ive explored the very edge of the known universe by venturing so close to the ether. Thankyou

Hi Fabio.....Thankfully I have never had this prob.....scouting around the net revealed lots of people that have tho....
Some reckon its "zone alarm" that does it, others say its their anti virus......I would recommend checking your puter for malware first.....then swapping to another anti virus for example avg even just temperarily just to see if it helps....
Good luck Gary.

Also try this Sean:

Click Start/All programs/Accessories/System Tools. In there should be "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)". Run that for a while to see if it locks up. That could rule out (or incriminate) any add-on programs running in your browser shell.

Good luck! thumbup.gif

can I say thank you..... i think it is my zone alarm that has been causing the problem.. so it has been removed and another firewall/anti-virus has taken its place...
