Sounds like its overheating.
Could be something as simple as your cpu fun clogged up with ooss and a very gentle hoover would sort that out.
Or it could also be your cpu fan failing and it my need replaced.

Get it checked out cos if it overheats it could fry your cpu or your motherboard.

Am on Vista.

I generally have it on a hard surface though... the fan thing doesn't seem to be working though... if I get a screwdriver out and take the back bit of is it worth having a look or should I take it to a professional?

Take it to someone who knows a bit about pc's and let them have a look.
Have you tried restoring it to a few weeks before it started to cut out?
Using windows restore

Can you come and fix it please? kiss.gif

I've emailed someone to ask if they can fix it but there's a whole load of pervy stuff on it... I'm not sure I want to hand it over to a complete stranger. icon_redface.gif

Buy a new one?! dunno.gif

No, I meant does it switch off while you're using it, or only when you leave it running while you shave your legs? icon_lol.gif

Yeah it switches off mid sentence... it seems to be better when I hang the bottom off the side of the table. icon_lol.gif

That's it then.... overheating. That's always happens more in the hot weather. You might want to take your crevice nozzle to the air vents on the side and bottom to try and get any dust out. You do have a crevice nozzle don't you? How would you clean your crevices without one? icon_eek.gif

ok here is johns thoughts.... the fan will be working as most lappys have inbuilt protection and will not startup if they are ermmm fooked... a crevice tool or blowing into the vent will not be enough to get rid of the dust/crap around the fan. the back needs to come off by a professional to be cleaned properly, and best done as soon as to prevent cooking of the cpu. perhaps a swing friendly engineer will do it for you or ask that the engineer cleans it in front of you or will do it at yours on a 'home visit' ( in a vanilla way icon_lol.gif ) but if the engineer is a professional then they wont even look at the contents of your files as they know we all have private files

another thought is because you are on vista(and in your 8 mins of running time) set a very strong password on your account ie lots of numbers caps and special characters and then add a limited user account that the engineer can use for testing

Idiot time icon_redface.gif

I've had to replace my router tonight and have it all set up and working etc now I want to connect my lappy to the same router

it still seems to remember the old settings as I have used the same network name and I don't know how to change it?

Its an easy answer isn't it?
