Can anyone help with this please - I opened an email which had a .docx attachment, and it has somehow installed a trial version of "Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007" onto my pc icon_cry.gif

It keeps asking me for a product key, which obviously I don't have, and it's saying that I have 17 more opportunities to enter this product key, at which time there will be reduced functionality - omg!

I was very happy with my previous version of Office, how do I get rid of this 2007 version?

Docx is the latest 'universal' word document format which is supposedly able to be opened by other word processing packages other than word I believe. However, previous versions of word cannot open it icon_rolleyes.gif

Go to Control Panel on your PC Cherry and select the Add/Uninstall icon and follow and uninstall the Word 2007 app that has been installed. Then File Save As the .docx attachment from within your mail to a folder on your hard drive and then go to this site which has a free docx online converter.

http://docx-converter.com/

Follow the instructions and you will then have a version that can be opened in your current version of Word icon_smile.gif

The other option would have been to do a system restore back to a date/time before the install. icon_wink.gif

Yep another good way, providing you remember to back up regularly and create restore points thumbup.gif

You can usually open .docx files by 'renaming' the file in windows explorer and just deleting the x off the end.
as for deleting 2007 Cherry, you were too quick off the mark- i could have sorted out the registration for you with that whistling.gif (win 2k and 2k3 is much better though icon_wink.gif)

The trial version only lasts 2 months though, unless you have a pirated copy somewhere or access to copies of Office
