Having been for a walk along the beach, we were walking the home stretch through a small seaside town. I had a 6' long piece of

A very hunky guy came out of the gift shop we paused outside of, and remarked "Nice wood"

Then he says "Did you find it on the beach?"

Okay, so I have a very short attention span!

Your a harsh woman.....
Bloody funny mind.....but still harsh

My advice would be to persevere Nola -- whatever turned you on to this person in the first place will probably shine through ..
Yeeeeaaaah.... see that's what I probably
should do.

You mean you missed the opportunity to say
" Yeah, I often pop down to the beach looking for wood"
Or
"It was only a twig till I started stroking it"
or
"This is my pet plank, it goes everywhere with me"
or
"Have you seen a very big dog?"
or
"I'm in training for the Highland game"
I tend not to like to have a first conversation with people over the phone because your perseption of someone from their voice can be so wrong. I sound exactly like my Mum on the phone.

He doesn't.
And so my mental picture is kinda shattered... and now I'm put off.

Hmmm, when I worked (briefly) for a marketing firm, the boss told me I had a persuasive manner and voice on the phone - maybe I should give more people here my number.

Is that silly? Can a voice be a turn-off?
Have you been in a similar situation with a potential meet only to be turned off by something?

Everyone thinks they sound bad on the phone. I cringe when I come home and hear the answer phone messages I've sometimes left for the kids......... I've been told I sound like a camp Gary Lineker
