2 cases have now been confirmed in Scotland. Still hardly an epidemic though icon_lol.gif

Well if the newspapers have their way, those 2 confirmed cases, will be 20 cases by 9!!

you might not be that far off... it is 2 confired so far.... however the number that they have checked so far is actually 25....

14 have come back negative.... 9 still waiting on results and the 2 positives...

the worrying this about the 2 positives is they were though to have come back from a part of mexico not affected by the outbreak

Always one to look on the positives to any given situation, even if 28 million are going to potentially die, this may mean that there will be a huge influx of new members onto the SH site who will be looking to go out with a bang rather than worry? icon_twisted.gif

People over here worrying about swine flu. icon_eek.gif

Think if you have to go into hospital, which you would if you caught swine flu, I would be more worried about catching MRSA whilst I am in there being treated for swine flu.

I do not know how many people have died over here from MRSA, but my betting it will be a damn sight more than swine flu will kill over here.

Scaremongering indeed.

There could be an underlining reason for this scaremongering icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif

Maybe I am wrong ? but ? there is a recession on at the mo,peeps are not buying so much esp meat ?

good excuse to put the price of meat up on any meat ?

sits back and awaits the big combines to fleece the public again icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif

similer thing happend with chickens a while back they went through the roof on price ?

there was this piccy years ago...a chick on a chickenfarm sneezes, in the next piccy all other chicks are heaped in a corner, with expressions of terror on their little faces, the sneezer chick is in the middle of the room laughing his arse of and the farmer is scolding it because he did not appreciate the joke

the avian flu still exists, has always existed and will continue to exist and to cause a small number of deaths every year, as it has always done..the only reason it became such an issue is not because it suddenly became more virulent..which it didn't... it's the media hype that surrounded it.
as for the swine fever... scaremongering porky or not, time will tell.

Pandemic flu is cyclic and outbreaks roughly 3 times a century based on 400 years of data. The last being in 1918 and so we are well overdue based on the figures below.

1918 1919 30 - 50 million
1957 1958 1- 4 million
1968 1969 1- 4 million

Plus in 1918 80% of people lived rurally and 20% in cities which limited it somewhat but it still killed circa 30 - 50 million people. These days its inverse in that 80% live in cities and 20% rurally. Add to that how easy it is to travel around the world these days.

The good thing is that we are more geared up to deal with one if it happens..... hopefully!

Caused quite a stir today on the District line... all unintentional of course.
I only had a mild sniffle, perhaos a little cough.
But then again I should have used an umberalla to shelter from the drizzle rather than don the gifted sombrero

From The Daily Mash:

PEOPLE across the world were last night urged not to panic as experts warned that most of you would be dead by the end of this sentence.

As swine flu swept across the globe governments sought to calm fears by ordering 400 million coffins, while media organisations offered a reward to any scientist prepared to use the word 'holocaust'.

In the UK, experts stressed there was no risk from pork products before urging Britain's army of morons to round-up all the sausages they could find and throw them into the sea.

Professor Henry Brubaker, of the Institute for Studies, said: "There's nothing to worry about but this is definitely worse than four simultaneous nuclear wars and a dinosaur invasion."

Governments have called on media organisations to work together in the face of what one official described as 'a nice, big, fat panic'.

Professor Brubaker added: "The world is paying the inevitable price for years of unprotected pig sex.

"It's no surprise this started in a devoutly Catholic country where everyone follows the Pope's instructions to the letter, especially the pig molesters.

"Pig sex, chicken sex, monkey sex - eventually they all come back and bite us on the arse. But not goat sex, that still seems to be fine."

Meanwhile the editor of Daily Mail was last night under observation in a central London hospital after suffering what witnesses say was a 'cataclysmic ejaculation'.

A source said: "He got more and more engorged as the details came in and then, when we got the Brubaker quotes, he went all cross-eyed, fell backwards off his chair and his trousers exploded. There was spunk everywhere."

I think that sums it up nicely.

apparently a gazillion and one masks have been ordered to try and halt the spread.....this is a complete waste of money, as these masks are only effective for 15 minutes.....thats why most surgeons dont wear masks when operating now!

would have been better placed spending the money on vaccines/development of vaccines
