It's an answer given in the general knowledge questions. Fluff answered 'Valve gear?' as if she wasn't quite sure of the answer.

My nickname causes a little confusion, and was once the target of abuse at a munch.

What's your nickname - surely Mancunian is self-explanatory (unless you're from darkest Aberdeen originally)?

You would have thought so, however....

I was born in the North West near to Manchester, living there for nearly 20 years, and have a mancunian accent as a result. With the exception of a two year spell I have lived in Yorkshire, South and North in that order, for nearly 30 years.
When I came here I choose 'Mancunian' as my nickname (username). It's my heratage not my present location.
One lady asked me if I cared to call for a drink one evening whilst I worked in North Yorks. She obviosly hadn't read my profile because she didn't know I lived here.
Another member berated me using Manchester and it's weather as a scource of abuse. This in a NE room. He assumed due to the geographical nature of my name I lived in the NW. It was a while before I went back there.
Finally leaveing a munch in Yorkshire my name badge was grabbed by a lady on her way out and who announced to her companions 'look here's another one from across the border', indicating her lack of knowledge of where I lived and that perhaps people from outside Yorkshire shouldn't attend Yorkshire munches. Fortunatly she was the only person I met to voice such an opinion.

I'm seriously considering changing my nickname to something non geographical.

Well I think I've told you all more than one thing there.

I'm not fluffy or stuffy. I used to be Mrs Goggins because I run a post office and still regret dropping that one. But a few people still call me by that name. Probably the same ones that like Opal Fruits and Marathons and remember when Wagon Wheels really were the size of wheels icon_lol.gif

Thankfully I don't have problems with the colour of my hair but it does need cutting soon.
