Ban it or accept there are always going to be people upset about smoking for one reason or another.
I've always been curious as to why people are so worried by the health risks involved in smoking and not those that come with..driving,industry,or even barbecues all pump out carcinogens why is smoking so much worse? because it smells? so does shit and we all pump out plenty of that.
Don't be too keen to join the anti-smoking bandwagon your vice is also on the list...whatever it is

P.S. I can't speak for all smokers but the reason I started smoking (I think) was the effect of nicotine...that initial dizzy head rush followed by the easy calm...it's almost worth stopping smoking to restart and get rush back

I don't know about you, but I don't shit on the street or in shop doorways. dunno.gif

And my previous question still stands. What is enjoyable about smoking? - I've never had an answer all the times I've asked it.

O.K. bad example....what about fast food shops ? curry houses ? cars? all smell awful to some people, should we ban them? or just learn to live with a few discomforts....the world is not padded with rounded corners and lavender pot pourri bags everywhere...some things kill you others don't, some things are pleasurable others aren't, there is a very blurred line between the two...that's the nature of the world

Whips....do you drive a car? Thought so.

So what about someone saying to you how much your car pollutes, and can you stop as they walk everywhere, so why do you pollute and have others breath in your car fumes, that do not drive?

You do not smoke..hey you don't like the smell, but there are plenty of things " apparently " that pollute and can kill us....If you believe in the climate change/ global warming stuff.

Now you can go anywhere you like without having to sit next to a smoker...so where,s ya problem now?

I see you did not answer my question about....would you pay more in tax out of your pay packet to subsidise the lost revenue?

As that ain't going to happen every single non smoker would of course say " yes of course I would " yeah right and there is a big pink flying piggy over there>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I started smoking as a result of experimentation and found that I enjoyed the experience. Like Staggerlee I enjoyed the dizziness and the buzz that I got from it I also enjoyed the smell/sense of the smoke as I inhaled. Yes, the slight cough was an irritation but that was nothing in comparison to how good I felt smoking. I guess it could be likened, for me, to that first swallow from a good cup of coffee. you know the sort that makes you go Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and close your hands around the mug and enjoy the moment.

I've not smoked now for five years and I miss it like hell. I also used to like to enjoy a little something more exotic very infrequently for very similiar, but maybe more exaggerated, reasons though as that was part of smoking i don't do that either now. I tell you what though, if tomorrow the powers that be we're to say its all been lies this stuff on smoking being dangerous and the price were to drop to 50p/20 i'd start smoking again in the blink of an eye. I know thats not the case and after having seen what came out of my lungs i know that wil never be the case.

Oh and though not really a massive thing with me but with some it is some women smoke with exquisite elegance and can be lovely to watch the mouth form around the end of a cigarette and to see the sensual nature of the smoke release, so again just something that too many may go unnoticed but to others can be a silent erotic language of its own.

Hope that explains something of how I feel about it Foxy though if you've never experienced these things then you will never "get it" I guess.

It of course is a drug and like most drugs you become addicted.

Why did I start? Peer pressure probably, the need to feel big at 13 may have been a factor. The times of the early 70's when cigarette dangers had not really been talked about a huge ammount.

Both my parents smoked which if you look at figures you are much more likely to smoke if one or both parents smoke.

After years of smoking I am fully aware of the dangers of smoking, just like I am fully aware of the dangers of riding a 200mph motorbike.

Risks are everywhere and yes I feel for non smokers when pubs and clubs used to have smoking in them. All that smoke for a non smoker must have been horrid, and then they had very little choice. Well the choice usually was simple....go into a pub or stay at home.

Now though the tables have turned where every club and pub is smoke free, yet they still want more restrictions.

I smoke...I want to smoke and except that I cannot smoke now where I used to be able to, but the thought of some twat telling me I cannot smoke in my house is a step too far, and they can feck off as I smoke in MY works unit and I will smoke in my home and my car whatever the " smoke haters " say.

But it stinks. And smoker's breath stinks. As does their hair and clothes. I know - both my parents smoked like chimneys, my ex smoked for years. Kissing him was yuk.

My Mum stopped about 6 years ago - in the January. She opened the wardrobe she kept her summer clothes in later that year and was horrified that the clothes in there reeked of old smoke. She asked me if she had always smelled like that - I could only be honest - yes she did.

And, daft child that I was, I did try it at 15. It tasted vile. OK, it gives an effect like any other drug, but I never saw how it was worth it. And those women smoking 'elegantly'? It's only elegant to some. To others it's ugly.

Ah well I think someone who has had an Indian curry the night before, their breath stinks.

Their clothes reek of curry or the person who has chomped on some garlic the night before.

I went on a train last week and stood next to a guy whose breath bloody stunk of curry...not nice at all.

So smoking is not the only thing that makes you smell.

I started smoking about mid 1970s, not because of any pressure, but purely as a young man showing off. I hated the taste, the dizziness and feeling sick, but the need to show off was greater, so I kept going until I could not cope without it. I kept smoking until January 4 years ago. I do not miss it one bit and never hardly think about it.

actually, no i personally don't drive a car as yet.

yes i think that alot of people could cut down on how much they use their cars too. it annoys me that people get the car out to go to the shops or take the kids 100 yards up the road to school. you will be pleased to know that i walked my son to school everyday. 4 miles in total icon_wink.gif

as usual kent you pick and choose what you want to hear from what someone says. you haven't comented on the fact that i don't actually have a problem with smokers. nore do i have a problem choosing to be with them while they smoke. but don't bang on about your rights at the expence of mine and then call others hypocrites.

someone close to me smokes, cherry tobacco actually that i like the smell of. especially when the packet is first opened. i also don't mind kissing someone who has been smoking. i lived with an ex who was/is a smoker. but you asked certain questions and i answered them with my opinion. most smokers never like the answers non smokers give and it's as simple as that.

as for tax, it won't just come from my wages, they would use it as an excuse to put everything up. do i care? i don't know because i have no idea how much it would effect me. i'd rather pay extra taxes to cover the loss from not smoking than pay for the queen and alot of other crap we pay for icon_biggrin.gif

That answer does work both ways ya know.

I think you will find your comment about the Queen comes from somebody that possibly has no idea how much money the Queen actually brings to the table.

Now if you was possibly talking about the " others " then yes I would agree but....the Queen? Come on she is worth her weight in gold to England, and like her or not what a fantastic ambassador she is to this country.

I cannot be bothered to find out how much she actually costs us per person, but it is pennies really compared to as you say some of the other crap we pay for....care to name any? icon_wink.gif

mp's expences for a start. i really can't be arsed to name any more just to satisfy you kenty.

we are talking just smoking here, what you do could kill me. me being next to you doing nothing will do nothing to you. if people can't use their phones and so on while driving then smokers should be banned too. very simple.

After all what we read about serious crimes going unpunished, and the powers that be bleating on about not jailing people because the jails are full, we now have this...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1254126/Pub-landlord-Nick-Hogan-given-smoking-ban-jail-sentence.html

I can just imagine his local council hounding this guy, and not letting it drop as they want an example made of him.

I hear all the time about people like a dog owner whose dog attacks another dog, or a drug addict who has stolen money from charity tins, or a bloke pissing on a war memorial, all NOT going to jail for crimes that should have seen them sent to prison but....now I see a guy jailed for six months, yes not a suspended term but a proper sentence, for failing to pay a fine for letting people smoke in his pub.

Hardly serious in the wider scheme of things in 2010 is it?

Yes he has broken the law but I have listed just three of hundreds of examples, where people should have been jailed but were not yet....they jail someone for non payment of a fine for allowing his customers to smoke.

Fecking typical mad liberal leftie Britain....in 2010
