They have a nice scheme going at the moment: You get your benefit AND do work [for a company].
Admittedly, you only get the £64.00/wk you get on "dole" but you do get to work 40 hrs/wk for it. The carrot is that you may get to be employed by the company after it.....the problem being that there is always another "hopeful" to do the 40 hrs for 64 quid again, and again, and again.....
As the guys already working there put it "we get a new guy every few months....he works for 64 quid a week and we get 400 quid a week"
Coin. Two. Sides.

I think you actually said..." but then what could he moan about? "

But then that's no problem at all, cos I have come over all fluffy.

Loves and hugs to all.

On a brighter note i just heard my first cries of "tories out" on the news, ahh the good old days.

One season versus years of poverty, homlessness, bigotry, race riots, unemployment being a price worth paying.
Yes you wont remember the worst, the tories ensured their friends in the south east did well while the rest of the country suffered.

no barbed wire round the garden of england and if you come the long way you can avoid the tolls
i really don`t think the tories looked after the south east and not the rest of the country or is there some sort of evidence to back this claim but if you feel left out come and join us
if you feel life is more privileged down here cum on down dont be left out

People want to look at how Labour have looked after The Scots and The Welsh at the expense of England.Their own assemblies and English MP` s not able to vote on Scottish issues but low and behold what happens with good old England. To get their way they rely on the Scots and Welsh.

It looks like the "alliance" is moving to secure its position.
Legislation is to be put forward to set the term of parliament (5 years) unless a "majority" of mps vote no confidence. The amount needed to so vote is also to be increased...probably to 66% - 75%.
As you can see, the combined votes of labour/lib/dems and other parties will not be enough to unseat the government.

The term of parliament is already fixed at 5 years, unless the sitting PM decides to call an election before that time span.

The actual percentage majority of MPs needed for a successful vote of no confidence is to be 55%, which equates to 358 MPs. As the Tories only have 307 seats, there is a healthy majority of other MPs that can vote against them in a Vote of No Confidence.

the sitting PM would have no say, the only thing that would affect the term would be a vote of no confidence.
Or, as better explained:

Quote:

A fixed-term parliament would leave no one in any doubt of the election date, which would change only if a government lost a motion of confidence in Parliament. There would need to be a legal bar on a government engineering a vote of no confidence in itself in order to have an election in more propitious circumstances. It would also mean reforming the prerogative power of the sovereign, exercised through the prime minister, but that would have the advantage of protecting the Crown against any allegations of electoral jiggery-pokery

Tory MPs form 47.5% of the Commons. All other parties form 52.5%. 55% = 365 mp's (ish)

I was stating the current situation where the sitting PM can call an early election.

There are 651 seats in parliament, so 55% is 358 but yes you are correct that the Tories have 47% of seats.

So with tories at 307 seats the magic 55% is reached when 358 decide to go with the vote of no confidence.
651 - 307 = 344
You'll have to excuse my crude calculation and reliance on net figures; or not.
