If you were to question them more deeply, they undoubtedly would argue that they only thought you had access to 10 when you were renting but now you own the whole site, it's the whole 30 now.

If you press them even harder saying the number hasn't changed since you were renting, they'll probably send you a supplementary bill for the other 20 spaces they undercharged for, for however many years they actually undercharged you.

nope we did get a reduction gnv

not without a fight though icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Good for you!! They haven't sent the Valuation Officer in yet then icon_wink.gif

They did with us; they acknowledged that we had overpaid then sent the VO in to redefine the RV and guess what.. the increase in the RV just about covered the overpayment.

Crafty eh?

that's the local council for you

there to serve the people who pays the taxes

mind you when the vo visits its your responsibility to make sure he doesn't value area's where business can not be conducted

door openings, toilets, stairs ,
point out things like the facts like its not situated on a main road etc

its all minor things but i think ours added up to nearly £1500 a year in reductions on our last property

and they do hate a smart arse icon_twisted.gif

Nope ... The Valuation Office is not under local authority control.

Well that may be so, but they are all "authorities" in the general sense of the word who are working broardly to the same ends.

Semantically Plims, you are also correct as the Agency of HMRC, vis-a-vis the VO, operates at a local level usually within the boundaries of a LA/Governmental statutory body (a County Council, for example).

But your overriding principal is also correct.. they are out to screw you for as much as they can get! icon_lol.gif

You should try it Ken. It's this amazing programme that lets people with intelligence who know how to frame a question find the information they require.
