And I think I know Dave well enough to know that he isn't implying that either. You both have different ideas - doesn't mean either of you is right (or wrong)or more/less intelligent.

I don`t think it`s possible to go back to the "bad old days" ....I`m assuming you are refering to the late seventies early eighties !

If strikers fail to gain public sympathy and start trying to intimidate those that want to work I`ve no doubt that facebook, twitter and mobile phones will enable people to fight back .....

I know I`d take some time out to support somebody trying to get to work against a bunch of bullies trying to stop them thumbup.gif

TUC chief Brendan Barber has said the public will not accept large-scale spending cuts, as trade unions gather in Manchester.

Is here correct? I don't think so, I believe the cuts are not only required but urgent.

Or is he another union leader wishing to take on the Torys?

Alright, I normally don't go into the Current Affairs section of the Forum these days but the above got me back.

The British Public will not support the Strikes not because we are against the Trade Union Movement but because we are selfish. We only take any action when something directly effects us on a personal level.

An example being that the area I live has a public pathway that leads to the Local Train Station that has bad lighting that makes it unsafe. This has been a problem for well over 20yrs but nobody has ever done anything about it until I raised it with the Local Cllr & MP.

Am going to deal with this issue once my personal concerns are dealt with.

In short, we British just selfish 'we close our curtains' & don't care what happens outside. Then watch The X-Factor & talk about it on Facebook, read about it in The Red-Tops along with endless debates (yes, I've seen them) at work...!! We are also a nation of spineless wimps whom don't do anything direct (unlike the French or Germans) the amount of people I've met whom moan about that certain colleague OR Line Manager whom they hate in work... yet they don't do nothing about these people whom make their lives a 'horror-show' & I have to sit in the Pub hearing them moan about this until they either leave or that person does.

I mention about HR but the reply is like a 'peseant being asked to stand up against The Sherriff of Notingham'...yet in these times we have Employment Law.

In short, us British want to live in the past hence ALL this recent retro stuff about the 1980's? What I remember about the 80's was the Pop Music & Liverpool Football Club being great but everything was either just about alright or sh*%e.

Yet, the revolution will occur in the UK in about 15 - 18yrs when people realize that due to over subscription (is that the correct term?) of the Under Graduate University System tooo many people will have degrees but will be working in really really low paid jobs. Some will accept this, others will try to move abroad but others will start to commit suicide. At first a few then loads.... all with 2:1's & 1st...!!

People will then realize that the whole way we live our lives in Britian is rubbish.
Old saying.. where all in this together.

Bit of an extreme prediction there icon_confused.gif

And I don't agree that the British are spineless wimps or selfish - that's a very sweeping statement.

Alright, the cuts going to be made are illegal.

According to UK Law any Public Sector Cuts made by either Local or Central Government need to do something called Impact Assesments.

These look at how the mentioned cuts will deal the worse off in our society...

Old, non-White (like me), Disabilites (again like me) & Women.

As people in these groups don't really do well in a 'normal society'.

Are we as a nation kicking-off asking questions like...

If we have borrowed cash & are in debt whom are we paying the Cash back to? I don't know do you? I want German / French style marches how can any man that's been born with a Sliver Spoon tell me how live my life. Does he know about hardship or street-life?

Yet, our current Government & the National Media (expect Channel 4 News*) have not mentioned this legal fact. The Government just say 'its the biggest threat to OUR Nation since World War 2' so action needs to be done NOW.

All done by men whom just want to force 25yrs of Ecomimc Policy in just 4yrs (think about the maddness of this fact) that connects to their thinking on us.
If things get worse, I'll still be alive breathing & the weather will still be rubbish with all us moaning about it.

It seems people have 'short memory chips or broken one's'...it was the Banking System & NOT the Public Sector that created this but we are paying for their almighty fook-up.... but history happens in cycles so expect another bail-out in 18 -20yrs time.

* If you want News with no angle watch Channel 4 News as the BBC just now kisses the arse of whoever is in No.10 or just before an election who they think will Win & Sky News... sorry looks great but who's the Boss..!!

kent,

I've always had a saying...

you're either a Socialist or a Capitalist.

Forget all this rubbish about 'the centre ground of Politics'.

Things in life do have sections of grey but in this respect every person is if they relaize it or not in one camp or the other.

Therefore, if you think people that work on the Tube shouldn't strike cause the popualtion of London depends on them just get rid of Trade Unions & let's take this nation back to the days pre-Trade Union Movement or as I like to call them...

Sheriff of Notingham era.

Do as your told, shut your mouth & don't show any sign of disrespect.

If the Government needs to bail-out the Banking Sector AGAIN in possibly less than 12mths from now things are going to get interesting maybe even you might join me in a March against it.

As always Kent, I don't at times dig your views but you put them out & I respect you for having such passion.

Thanks Naughty.

Yes center politics is a strange one at times, or is it really sitting on the fence politics?

The underground strikes are needless and has been said already that a leading union official has already been arrested for intimidating workers trying to go about doing their job.

I do not want to see the trade unions curtailed too much, but what I would like to see is unions not having hard line union leaders like Mr thug...Bob Crow.

Boris has it right by saying that at least 50% of the union members should vote before it becomes legal.

I am and never will be a Socialist, as Socialism is fine as long as there is the money to pay for it, which usually comes direct from Capitalists....strange that I think.

Nice to see you in the CA part of the forums though.

And how do you know what's going on in government, behind closed doors? Just because only channel 4 have mentioned it, doesn't mean that it hasn't been discussed by politicians/other people who represent us? If channel 4 know, I'd be pretty sure that government people know and will be bound to act upon it. And what does that have to do with graduates committing suicide? Or British being (in your words) spineless or selfish? As I said, very sweeping statements and wild predictions.

Oh, and I'm a woman and I do well in 'normal society'.

Well ......that has to be just about the biggest load of bollocks you`ve ever muttered on here !!! And there`s been some !! icon_lol.gif

I`m not a capitalist or a socialist ....... I rather hope there isn`t a label for me but I`ve been called everything from fascist to anarchist and beyond ......so think again ....there are no absolutes in any of this but it is inevitable that "democracy" has had it`s day and things will change.

So a global recession which hits trade, increasing immigration causing an increased pressure on our societies infrastructure, a wasteful government (you only need to see how much investment is required in education, health, transport, armed forces etc to show that the government have long been spending money they just dont have, and in many cases, wasting that money), a sharp increase in public sector employment and budgets are not factors that has caused this country to be drop to it's knees?

It is purely bankers?

If you truly believe that, then I would suggest you are blinkered to the other problems that exist.

How is that according to you 'bollocks'?

Either as an individual you go with either...

Society is going out of control in terms of people demanding more money due to the price of things always increasing & things Political must be done to halt this. Another version is how the 'Target Driven Society' is actually making life worse not better for people. Private Sector inc. powerful Mega-Captains of Industry have far too much power / influence in the Society due to their wealth thus being a threat or actually destroying Democracy as they eventually want to rule in a 'Sheriff of Nottingham' style..

OR

Governments inc. Public Sector 'parent' the population far too much holding people back in Social Economic terms. Once Government control is less, the population will have to fend for itself thus discovering new skills & talents.
Economy increases therefore Tax's do & the Hospitals, Schools, Roads are better than ever. Therefore the pursuit & collection of Money set's people free & improves the quality of their lives
.

As I said every person is either in one or the other & to say that your not is in my opinion bollocks.

I agree with that if as an example just 22% of the total Union Membership actually bothered to vote; then a Strike shouldn't be allowed.

I would go with 51.00% of actual Members would always have to Vote before a Strike is allowed. Also, a Independent Department should have been created years ago looking at how to prevent Strikes that could have a negative effect of the Population; via long negotiation / investigation.

So if a Boss of a Transport Company was behaving like an utter Tool then this information would be proven OR if a Union Boss just wanted the 'lime-light' then their motives would be exposed.

What's happened to logic in this Society?

So then flower, how would you describe yourself?

You do have to be one or the other in my view, or a mix of the two with a bias one way or the other perhaps.
