And isnt it a tad ironic that a thread about free speech should be more heavily censored than any I've ever witnessed on here?

There's really no point in posting anything if that's going to start being the norm.

I was just illustrating a point, ironic I agree, btw: I don't believe that this should be the norm.

Yet you did it anyway.

I dont believe it should be done at all. People are capeable of making their own minds up as to what to think. Agree or not, be offended or not. Dont shelter us please.

Half the story is always worse that the whole story. I dont like the way threads go anymore than anyone else but even if i dont agree with some of the posts it's no debate at all if they're censored.

Yes I did, it certainly helped to make the point about how things 'could' be moderated and in the case of the comments removed they had nothing to do with the debate in the thread, the original subject that prompted this action was thread locking.

In that case it was a point well made.

So to play devils advocate here for a second, in the future if any posts are deleted will something be put there to show that there was something there? Or would we just not know unless we'd read it before it vanished?

Most of the time posts are edited and a note left that that effect, usually in red.

I have in the past used gagged.gif as well, but thats just me and is very rare.

Some posts may be removed, such as blatent spam, anything in really bad taste or on some occasions when requested, this could also apply to threads.

Locking threads isn't an exact science and the mod team have to make judgements, sometimes there's a lot of discussion in the mods lounge with regard to what would be for the best before any action is taken, Anais did attempt to pull the thread back on topic unfortunately that wasn't a success, hence the subsequent locking, an alternative may be to over moderate by removing every off topic post, here's one I did earlier http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/323504.html

Myself I don't think we should be going down that route, even if we did all we would end up with are constant debates aboiut how unfair every post removal was.

Was it in the thread I refered to above TLM.

Yes it was in there, I thought I was going mad when I saw it wasn't there then realised by others comments that some posts had been removed, as I said I never insulted anyone it was just a joke comment so cant see why it would have vanished.
Until we are no longer allowed it hijack, in which case I would apologise is not I just want to know why it was removed.

The point I was making was about just that, gratuitous removal of posts as the norm would go down like a lead balloon.

19 pages of road closures in Edinburgh for the Pope's visit. 19 PAGES!!! censored.gif

No offense... but how the fuck are people supposed to get home from work? The whole of the city centre has been closed. icon_rolleyes.gif Not just for a couple of hours either! There was better access when the G8 thing took place.

I'm not religious. I have no beef with anyone else's religion either but get a fucking grip! icon_rolleyes.gif

*wanders off to buy some eggs for the walk home* icon_twisted.gif

Oh... and I'd have had a rant in the relevant thread but well... I can't! icon_wink.gif

Do you ever stop whinging?

First it's the trams, now this, if you lived in Glasgow or Aberdeen, we would all get a break.

I know you are going to kill me, I thought I would go out on a high

Oh, and the correct spelling is 'offence'

and the people who wanted the thread locked have there way well done to ya all

and how does it look to anyone reading the ca forum (very adult and not really worth joining

"don't go in there you get abused and they get away with it and get there way toboot" !!!

fine moderation you have here Steve thumbup.gif

the thread was locked 5 days after the comments started ffs and all carried out by people who have a vested interest in councils

it all stinks worse than a bloated dead fish as i can bring up 20 odd other threads where there has been worse and i mean a lot worse than this

rant finished

i'm afraid i held dave and his opinions in quiet high regard till this

not anymore i'm sorry to say
