Oh dear... stones and glass houses comes to mind... hugggggs I know you meant well... icon_smile.gif

Actually I did notice that in the reply to my query about privacy guarantee was spelt wrong and I wondered if that was a 'get out clause' or just carelessness. icon_biggrin.gif

Hey ho... Derby should be interesting tonight if we were not otherwise engaged I'd be asking Calista and Morbius for details.

Fred aka Medic 1 - i signed up for 30 seconds the other day, placed a simple ad, and had a quick 5 min look in the chatroom. We didn't really need to see the site to much, as we were in discussions with Mark regarding its stats, which is what we needed to know first off.

elliot,

i'm sure you can understand why so many concerened posts here, SH has prided its self on being a FREE site, and what has happened has thrown all that to the wind, people are now so unsure about whats going to happen next, will we have to start digging in our pockets at some point??. if we do have to start paying at some point, then what will make this site so different to any other pay site.....nothing. so the attraction will be lost.

we are a community of friends, not just web based swingers.

i am forever the optimist, so will at least give it a chance, but at the end of the day, too many changes and people will leave.

if this has already been said, then sorry.

2257 has been seriously burning everyone, not just U.S.-based companies. Although my own websites are hosted in Ireland and created in the UK, I have still had to bend over backwards to satisfy the requirements of this far-reaching legislation, which appears to have permeated throughout the entirety of the internet, regardless of national borders.

I've had colleagues in the Czech Republic nearly lose their businesses because of this. They were quick to comply, though, and I now have on file copies of the passports or photo IDs for each and every person whom they've contracted to appear on my own websites. [To everyone: Thus, next time you're at an SH party and I've got my camera, please be sure to bring a valid photo ID along with you!] icon_wink.gif

So, until we know the implications of USC, Title 18, Section 2257 for the new-and-improved $H, I think it may be best to begin pulling our photo links until further notice. This may take a while, though, as there are quite a lot of them.

Cheers,
~Reese icon_sad.gif

P.S. to Elliot: Out of curiosity, in which country is the SH server located?

not sure what to say regarding the site change of hands.

im just a bit concerned that the fact isnt that clear.

not everyone reads the stickys. some people only use the chat rooms or ads.

im not sure what the best way around this is, maybe change this thread title to make it clear swingingheaven is under ownership???

I know if i had not come into the site today and the other related threads had slipped down i would not have had a clue what was going on. to be honest i never really do anyway lol

umm welcome to the site newbies( boss??) think you should all show us your faces and tell us a bit about you personally, or am i being silly and thats never going to happen as this is a buissness to you NOT a community???

DITTO

I have just a few questions (to begin with), mainly about your suitability to declare yourself fit to breeze in out of nowhere and put yourself in charge:

I can answer that.... they paid for it

1. What interest does the new owner have in the SH Community?

They want to make money

2. Does the new owner know anything about or care anything about the SH Community?

See answer to question 1

3. Does the new owner expect the volunteer mods, ops, and other people working for the Community voluntarily behind the scenes to carry on doing so while a commercial concern benefits from that work?

Yes - but only if we want to
icon_rolleyes.gif

4. How does the transfer of ownership to a commercial entity affect the Page One promise that Swinging Heaven will "NEVER" be a paysite?

It makes a mockery of everythinb SH stands for, but hey.... they can make an all singing all dancing home page to go with thier "developements"
icon_rolleyes.gif

5. Will the new owners expect to be paid royalties for the use of SH logos on Munch badges and tie pins, or will they regard it as free advertising?

They have a problem with terminology just yet. they have promised to read up on matters such as munches. I don't know whether they know what the SH Pin is or represents.

6. How will the new owner, being apparently unfamiliar with the Community, know which group gatherings to sanction as site meets and which to regard as private parties?

They don't know - I assume they will be looking to us (the mods) to help them.... voluntarily and if we want to
icon_rolleyes.gif

7. Will the new owner respond to site-related communications addressed to the previous Administrator, or do I have to write the whole flucking lot out again?

Dunno

8. To what extent has the previous Administrator's departure been influenced by the aggressive behaviour of certain members of a copycat/breakaway site, and how does the new owner propose to prevent further disruption from that source?

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, dunno... but that's dead and gone... let's look to the future and "premium features" that we are all going to get free for one year....wooooo hoooooooo - none of which the majority of the regs are shallow enough to care about anyway

9. Is the new owner aware that the people who work so hard to keep SH alive and free do so out of love for the Community and loyalty to the founder?

They hadn't a clue. They are starting to learn..... maybe.... well, at least they have been informed

How does the new owner propose to inherit that loyalty? Has the new owner broken bread with anyone here? Does the new owner even remotely know anyone here?

They don't know us. We don't know them

10. Who are you? What is the name of your company? Is it familiar to Watchdog viewers? Why the big secret?

We are not allowed to say icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't want you to take over. This is a free site with Guidelines... have they now changed too?

I don't want to pay for something that I have used for the last two years FREE and I think you are very naive about thinking we are a group of people who can be stonewalled into paying for things we have found previously free.

We are a community of individuals and will never be 'Owned'

They are saying it will remain free and the pay part will be for extra features not currently on here, BUT for how long is my question. I cannot see a commercial company doing anything for "free".
To the new owners : If it ain't bust, don't fix it....
Turn this into another commercial dating/wanna shag site and it'll destroy the community built up here.

Mind you I have seen Greeks bearing gifts before with another site I belonged to they made similar promises ... the result... the membership walked and the COMMERCIAL ventuer colapsed. Power to the people .. remember the new owner needs YOU! thumbup.gif

Absolutely.... the community will just up and leave if we don't like it..... there are plenty of places to go............. The spirit will not be broken, munches and parties can still happen even if we all decide to jump ship and set up home elsewhere

REMEMBER - it is JUST a website..... it is the community that matters

You will have one login name, which will be for the forum, and you will be able to specify your displayed name in the chatroom.

little gem - you won't have to pay for anything, all the current features will remain free, and as an existing member you will be bumped up to premium for free also.

Phoenix - i agree nothing is broken, but there is a lot to be gained, such as more reliable, quicker photo ads, and loads of useful features.

Clare and Steve - the mods were notified last night, and the ops this morning, we would have liked to have given them more notice, but Mark mailed them sooner than we was expecting to let them know.

Bloke2005 - Thanks for your kind words, im glad you have grasped what we are trying to achieve and the benifit to all the members.

debz4u - I think you will be surprised how much better this site as the potential to become. We are an experienced development company, and have the ability to push this site to new features. The payment is needed because, as a company, we still have to pay the bills, but anything that is ALREADY free, will remain FREE.

Ice pie-
1) We also run dating sites and are experienced with online dating and communities, we decided to branch out into Swinging niche.

2) Yes we do care about the SH community, and are trying to learn about it and understand it as much as poss.

3) Not at all, moderation is voluntary, this is something that we will be discussing with the mods and ops.

4) SH will remain free as it is now with all its current features, we are simply adding on aditional features that we need to charge for to cover our outgoings.

5) Not in the slightest.

6) We don't and will look for guidance from the mods and regular members.

7) We have taken over the email address, but not Marks forum account, please PM me if you wish.

8) If you want to break away its entirley up to you, but you will be missing out in the end.

9) We area ware, and no we have not broken bread, or know anyone here, and is something we aim to change overtime.

10) There is no big secret, the company name will be known as soon as i am given the ok to let it out, this is for legal reasons.

scooter99 - Mark decided he had had enough, to run the site him self is a large burdon.

blonde - not yet icon_smile.gif

kazswallows - Banned members will remain banned. Mods and ops will retain positions should they wish.

Apologies to the questions i have missed, there are a lot, please post again if i missed them or was not clear enough.

I hope the above clears some stuff up, im not your enemy, honest icon_smile.gif

As you admit to not knowing the site too well, here's a bit of constructive feedback on your proposals...

Elliot wrote:

The new features:
One unified login and members area for the whole site...

One fundamantal point you may have missed about this site is that it's actually 4 different fairly insular communities, that only have limited cross-over.

1) The Cafe/Let's Meet Up crowd are the ones you are talking to now. We are probably the most resistant to change, and we are also quite possibly the biggest drain on bandwidth, racking up 1000s of page hits per day each.

2) The chatroom crowd. Lovely people, excellent speed readers, but have a tendency to press x dozens of times whenever someone they know turns up. The hardcore use MIRC and therefore probably can't be advertised to.

3) The Dogging Forum people. Some overlap with the rest of the site, but it can be seen as a bit of a ghetto. Not much revenue potential unless you can do a deal with NCP car parks.

4) Photo Ad users. As you know if you've looked at the traffic figures, this is the big bit of the site, but the crossover from there to the other parts isn't as big as you might imagine. Probably your best bet for money making, as this is the part of the site with the most transient visitors, and the part of the site that people would probably expect to be a commerical venture.

Because this site is so split, unless you want to drive traffic from one section to another, I don't really see the value of a unified log-in, tying in IRC will present headaches, and the ability to ban people from certain parts of the ite but ot others will need work to support.

Elliot wrote:

Unlimited pictures

The site already provides this! See "Personal Pages" on the lefthand menu. I assume you mean more photos in the photo ads, where there is a limit of 3? Nice, but non essential, and it will cost you a lot of bandwidth.

Elliot wrote:

Site messaging

Hmm, we already have 'reply to photo ads', the ability to PVT in chat, and PM on the forum. Each has their uses, so unification seems once again to be tricky, and unnecessary.

Elliot wrote:

Video chat room

As I have said before... nice, but difficult. The current resistance to camming can be seen by the site policy of only allowing people to mention camming in one single thread over in 'Let's Meet up'. I thnk there is potential for money making there, but probably not from the forum crowd.

Elliot wrote:

User profiles

We already have forum profiles, and the Photo Ads. Another idea thet I think falls into the 'diffcult and not really beneficial' category.

Elliot wrote:

Distance displays

Again, nice, but problematic. People move about, can't spell, or wish to keep their location secret.

Elliot wrote:

I'm glad to see you have lots of ideas, and a drive to make the site better. I'm sure the SH community will be happy to 'muck in' and help with suggestions and (where needed) manpower. You have bought access to this resource, so why not use it, and ask us how you could do things better or make money without driving us away?

The servers are located in the US, and will remain there. There are plans to move the site to a brand new super high spec server, which will still be in the same rack, so infact the server will be moving around 10 inches downwards icon_biggrin.gif

And on the subject of spam, we dont spam, we dont sell info, we dont do popups. icon_smile.gif

So you will be affected by the legal points that Reese has introduced... I'm puzzled... I rent a whole stack of server space in the US... with Viaverio so I'm sure that you need to look into the points that Reese has introduced.

Hi All

I am Martin the CEO for the company that has just purchased this site

Reese, we have had legal counsel on all aspects of internet law, there are changes that need to be made on this site but what you have suggested is DEFINATELY not one of them. I have just checked with the lawyers again on this point and it was as we understood it. It only covers the US, unless we are mistaken and the UK is not a state of the US then that law is not appropriate to us as a UK company. icon_lol.gif

Surely being members of this site we have a right to know which company now owns it?

If SH will be turned into a paysite of any description, including current members, then by the rules of the internet, people will migrate to another free site and swingingheaven.co.uk will become another paysite with minimal basic level functions for it's members. If it's to survive, popups shouldn't be installed, ringtone advertising (probably the main source of income from this site) should be discreet, such as on the top of this page, and all but the most intimate or useful of data should be left free for any members to use.

Businesses should know by now that the internet is a multinational entity. Privately, commercially and publically owned. If people can get the same things for free, why pay for it...

A change in ownership is bound to upset the status quo, but consideration and minimal commercialisation is needed to avoid destroying it and sinking what we have, and what you're investing in.

P.S. Will you filter all the inactive accounts and use a drop down system for specifying location? Those are two changes I would definately find useful
