Strange, I thought I'd posted a good morning thread to Elliot this morning - seems to have disappeared dunno.gif

Anyway I have a serious question, which I don't think has been asked yet.

I can sense that after the initial shock quite a few of the Mods/Ops are coming 'round and are obviously co-operating otherwise they wouldn't be here as Mods etc would they. I also note that the Owners/Employees of the Company are registered as Mods or Admin.

I presume that the pre-existing Mods are still operating on an honorary basis, this is quite an important distinction to a lot of members here because it clearly influences that person's motivation. Will the new owners be introducing some easily identifiable way we can tell whether people are employees or volunteers? I think they should.

We have no plans to become staff - all the Mods are here because 1) we love the site and 2) we love Mark - just cos Mark has chosen to hand the site over is no reason for us to 1) stop loving the site or 2) stop loving Mark.

As Missy so nicely put it last night (you'll need to search for it) we have no intention of becoming pimps. Hope that that settles things?

Now - my bottle of wine is open and I want to enjoy it.

The people in green that you know and love are volunteers and are not paid for their work on the site. The others in green are getting paid. I also hope a clear distinction is made between the two soon. It is something that has already been suggested from some members of one group of greens to the other.

Well both those answers are reassuring - so thanks for that. They are of course from the 'part of the greens' which we all know and trust - however, over time others may appear on different terms - so I'd like to echo the call for the distinction to be made.

We are working on it Tune cos we think it's the best way to go too. The new folk have said that they will not Mod the site so any moves/deletions/deactivations etc etc will be the work of the usual hardworking and snoggable Mods. See signature for further instructions!

Sorry for delayed reply, I have been behind the scenes sorting more stuff out, pm’s etc etc.

Ok 5 pages to catch up on, probably by the time I’ve wrote this it will be 8!

I have read ALL of the replies, and taken them on board, I have only replied to those who asked direct questions though, as it was just simply to many icon_smile.gif If I missed any please re-post.

Froggystyle – Point taken about the 4 different communities, I didn’t realise it was such a split, no doubt there are people that use some/all, and/or drift between. Providing one overall login is a fairly easy thing to do, and will provide us a much better way of keeping track of everything, who knows it may be a good thing in the long run, inviting people to explore more of the site and make the most of it.

Unlimited pics – indeed personal pages, but not everyone can do html, an easy to use personal gallery to manage your pics will be a nice touch.

Video chat room – some people like it, some don’t. We will be providing non cam rooms, as well as private rooms, so thres plenty of scope there to suite everyone.

User profile – a unified page which will become the focal point for most of the new features, fully customisable profiles, public and private galleries etc etc, perhaps it doesn’t seem overly beneficial at the moment, but you may find it quite nice when its up and running.

Distance display etc – just a minor part of the profile this, users will have the option to hide it, it will be based on a postcode, so spelling not important.

Speed – glad you agree with this one, a new high spec server and optimised code will ensure this.

Finally – thanks for you input, and yes we will be asking for suggestions, comments and any input anyone has on the stuff we have planned, it makes good sense to use the wealth of experience from this community.

Osmosis – As above, private galleries with invite only will be a main feature. The chatroom will be flash based (much nicer than java). With the distance comes location search, as the crow flys distance searching etc, as well as a whole load of new search criteria.

meat2pleaseu – There are no legal implications from avatars, sigs, banners etc etc, nor what is said, things will carry on as normal.

well_busty_babe – thanks for the kind words, from a web developers point of view (experienced in swinging and dating sites) I can say there are many things that I think can be added to this site, which will be a benefit to existing members and newbies a like. I think the best thing I can say is wait and see what you think, ill try my hardest not to disappoint.
Tallnhairy – thanks for the kind words, verification will NOT be implemented judging by the reaction on here.

Nallers – the mods role as such will not change, I can understand what you are saying about the dedication to a non profit organisation vs a commercial entity, this is something we will need to think and talk about, and see what happens.

Sarah – beer lasted thank god, my energy didn’t however icon_biggrin.gif

Joanne-ish – we won’t be doing anything to the site that people won’t like, we will make sure of that fact by keeping people involved all the way.

Kaz – im feeling really good odley enough, considering the amount of alachol I consumed and the 14 hours sitting in virtually the same position icon_biggrin.gif

Bluexxx – ill drop you a PM in a minute, but in the meanwhile thanks for the thoughts, and I cannot apologise enough for how things went on Thursday and Friday. As you say we completely underestimated the community here, and made a right pigs ear of the changeover, its sad that we did not get off to a better start, but I hope we can build on this, I really do.

Heavysyandck – keep an eye out on Monday for a full rundown of the improvments in detail.

Happy Cats – spot on, although don’t forget that the current free features of the site will remain for new members too! So no one loses out.

Fabio – as said above verification will not be implemented due to the reaction received here!

Morbius – great read, and thanks for the luck. We understand that this site IS the community, and we will do everything we can to keep it that way.

Dargento – how did you manage to tap our phones? icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks to everyone for the input, im now off to tackle the inbox again icon_smile.gif

If its reliant on us putting in our own postcodes, I'm betting debbs ends up being shown as living in either Brighton or the Caymen Islands.

It's taken me hours to read through all the posts and take in everyone's points of view, my head hurts! Some excellent points raised and the new management would do well to take these on board, if they want this site to continue to remain a success.

Many have spoken passionately because they feel that this is THEIR site, as they have contributed much and invested their time and selves over the past. Mark was one of US and being taken over by strangers is going to take a lot of building trust and confidence. IF the new owners are prepared to listen to the community that has evolved here, then this site will continue to be a success. Otherwise it will just become another swingers site. What they/we have here is something unique, something that can not be bought (especially us lot), so I hope they do realize that, or are at least beginning to!

Elliot, Martin and co may well interface with us here and come to love us, but I wonder how they are going to explain to their superiors (I gather they belong to a larger group), what they have only just discovering themselves about this site. This is more than just a slice of bandwidth and a prime piece of internet real estate they have here. It's a whole community of people that make up this site, which makes it such a success. Lose us and their investment wiill be worth a whole lot less.

I welcome the new guys just as long as they treat us with respect. However, I am concerned that while Elliot, Martin and St3v3 may be the friendly face of the company, those that they work for may not have the same sense of loyalty to SH, if you see what I mean. I get the feeling that at the end of the day/year, it will be up to company accountants that decide the utlimate direction SH will take. I dearly hope this will not be the case but I have my concerns. So I ask the new guys to make sure those who have a more abstract interest in this site, at your company, gain an understanding of what they have here! An opportunity to build on something that is already great i.e. the people and the ethos that we have developed. Value our opinions and our sensibilities and things should work out fine.

I guess Elliot and co didn't have much of a clue about this place when they 'joined'. I believe it's only just beginning to sink in for them, lol. Let's face it, I think most of us ambled into this site thinking it was 'just another free site' and then realized we had just tapped into something much more significant. So no problem in understanding their suprise in finding what we are about and what go's down here, lol. We've all been newbies, so give them time to settle in and get used to our ways. I just hope that they will come to love this place as much as us and will want to nuture, protect and preseve it as much as Mark did.

Ok, I'll stop rambling now.

Regards

LC.

I need to catch up on the last 4 hours of postings but I don't like the poll

I do not think the SH changing hands will have any benefit to the
community

How can so many people agree to this when we are still unsure what the new company will be bringing to the site.

Being a regular visitor if not contributor to the forum, I personally think the new owners should be given a chance. If they are true to their words then it would appear that existing members have no cause to worry, if they are not, they stand to lose a lot of the goodwill they have just purchased.

Just yesterday, I read an article on the Implementation of Change and it stated that the rule of thumb was that 20% of people embraced change, 50% adopted a wait and see stance, whilst 30% actively resisted change. This is pretty much what the poll is suggesting here, being typically representative of the different types of character frequenting this site.

I'm looking forward to the changes being positive ones icon_smile.gif

I'm beginning..... just beginning icon_twisted.gif to like this guy!!!!

I for one sincerely hope that the reality lives upto the expectation you are giving off icon_smile.gif

It would appear they are willing to listen to us, now a plea from the heart to the sceptics amoungst us....

Whether or not you think the improvements/changes/developments will be a good thing or not LETS GIVE THEM TIME TO SHOW US WHAT THEY CAN DO!

I know i am a bit late with the news but have been at work until today...........................wow

i just have one question though and apologise if it has already been asked

you said you will give free membership to existing members, is that going to be a total across the board thing or will there be certain requirements linked to this offer??? ie length of time that we have been a member, or number of posts ect?????? icon_question.gif

other than that............... icon_eek.gif

One thing you might want to play with is making yourselves administrators and changing the colours of them back to purple. Mark always used to show up in purple and as 'Administrator'.

He chose to take this out a while back so he matched in the mods, but in light of the paid staff / volunteer split this would give you a simple way to differentiate. (as requested / suggested by a few peeps above)

welcome just dont fuck it up

ok for those just getting here and hearing the news heres a shortened version to stop you wading through the pages icon_smile.gif

1)mark sells site

2)martin and comrades say hi...

3) martin and comrades get instant hate mail...

4) martin (pissed by this time) says nasty things back....

5) 10 pages of waffle ensue...

martin...who bravely posts on his second day (sober) and now knowing more about the site starts to become a human entity to us all (but poor elliot is stil hiding under the computer desk in his office. martin tries to coax him out with a mars bar)

6) <<realises that ok theyre human (damn n blast)

7)hostilities over and martin and us start to communicate after a great apology from martin to our beloved bluexxx for the balls up over changing over...

so now hopefully we all live happily ever after icon_smile.gif

nuff said...

ps some 1 start a poll......can martin resist the swinging scene or not ..
