Well thats that then guys .........its been real .
We shouldnt all get so wound up , it was fairly inevitable and in fact we are surprised it took as long as it did.with such a successful site . Well done to Mark for managing as long as he did to run things so well and resist the temptation of coinage for such a lengthy spell . Silky and I are unfortunately veterans of quite a few such situations and have been here in the position of members contributors as well as web masters and founders of sites . All good intentions stated ,wether true or not , are of course now secondary to the concerns of good old profits . As such the very fabric and nature of the place can never be the same .
We are more than a little jaded with simlar experiences so we were very happy when we discovered such a diverse and entertaining intelligent bunch as SH existed . We are dissapointed , but having been here before perhaps less taken by surprise than many .
Unfortunately the introduction of money to the equation makes it impossible for the site to continue in the same spirit as before - the free , liberal and realistic approach to sex and sensuality displayed so refreshingly by the many posters on SH forums will be immediately tarnished by any attachment to a profit margin . The banter will immediately become salacious copy , the erotic pictures will instantly become pornography and the adverts will at once become just another dating ( pay your money and get laid) site . Any opinion expressed will of course be viewed as part of a profit making scheme ( like it or not) and we will all become effectively a bunch of performing freaks to draw in the people that want to pay to see the ' amazing swingersand their freakish sex lives' .
Even if the pages we have used remain free ( and there are all types of free - free with twenty seven pop ups on each page isnt really a bargain) you have to ask yourself about motivation for a profit making concern . They see web traffic , they see hits , they see people prepared to provide exciting and sexualised content for free day in day out all of which will draw in the curious punters .
We run our own free personal site , always free and just for pleasure , we used to post alot on sites that were free to view , but each one of them was eventually sold once they were valuable , and each one was basically ruined . The reason we run our own site isnt because we want to be web magnates , its because its fun to share and because we arent in the business of providing content for free to profiteers . If they want us to contribute they can ask nicely and we'll send them an invoice if they want us to put cash in their pocket .
As you all know we perhaps havent been as personally involved in the site as many , and that may have appeared stand offish , but in truth its because our past experiences have been of a similar ending - to all those of you who have made us laugh , and made us angry and intrigued us and made us smile we'd like to say thanks and just because we didnt munch it didnt mean we wouldnt have loved to meet many of you and have a chat and a beer.
As said earlier its truly a great mix of humanity here and deserves better than a visa registration can give - sadly introducing money to a swingers site is about as desirable as turning up at swingers meet and being asked for cash before the sex starts and I guess our views on that have been stated clearly enough in the past .
We truly truly hope we are wrong - and that somehow SH will survive commercialisation -and as we have typed far too many times before we'll say that we'll pop by now and then and see how its going - but in truth I am already looking for a big cyber wave to surf out to look for pastures new .

OK I can't be arsed reading through the 20-odd pages of posts, so sorry if these questions have been asked before;

1) Who are these guys who have bought the web-site? I don't mean their usernames, I mean the company name?

2) They say they run some dating sites as well, so can you post links to your other sites so we can see how they are set up and run?

3) These "new and exciting" (Legal disclaimer:parapharasing. May not actually have been said.) features that you'll be charging for, what exactly are they and when are you thinking of implementing them?

I must admit I'm a little disappointed with Mark and the fact he didn't tell us that he was considering selling the place. I'm sure that the community could have banded together to maybe match the offer and then the place would have at least been in the hands of folks we actually knew. Or did you guys just come in and offer him a wad of cash and a time-limit?

I suppose it's all academic really. If the site remains relatively unchanged then it'll probably keep it's regular user base. If it doesn't then we'll probably walk en-mass as Mr. J Sir mentioned earlier.

Calista summed it up, but i'll condense it. There's nothing we can do about the take-over. It's done and dusted. All we can do is wait and see what the site becomes and if we don't like it then we leave and find somewhere else on-line that's free and fun to call home.

Oh and to the new owners, if you're planning on trying to get any money out of the current userbase, forget it. Most of this lot have been around the web a while, and are tighter than a camels arse in a sandstorm when it comes to the pay-site thing.

Thought I'd give you a few days to settle in before posting a question.

I'd like to know your personal views on swinging and swingers? I ask the question not because as the new owners of the site you need to have any interest in swinging, but because you've stated that you maybe attending some of the social events

Now 3 of the principles I live by are

Open & honest
Respect peoples choices
No means no

so if you choose not to answer that's fine, but if you do please be honest

This is of course one of the problems even if the current content stays 100% free for those of us who are already here. It is inevitable that the posts, pictures, stories, parties etc. that are done by the current membership will be used as an advertising tool to make money.

Of course this does mean the new owners are probably being quite honest about their intentions to keep the site free for current members - in the end they couldn't get better advertising for the site if they tried.

I am not quite sure how I feel about that though - I am not very keen on what I type for pleasure being used by someone else to make money however if it means this community is able to stay together maybe it is worth it?

We found one of the other Swingers Sites run by Symbios, and it was not good news. (Thanks to Evie)

We were a member of this site for a while, but gave up because of the frustrations of needing to be a paid up member to really properly use the service. I know this is not quite what they want to do here, but we did have these concerns about the site :

1) It promotes members pics in a 'swingers gallery'. Which it then promotes through all sorts of keyword links on google, as more or less porn pics. I don't think most people here would be overly happy if the pics they posted on their ads were then put into a gallery, and matched up with all sorts of keywords on google, aimed at horny men.

2) It isn't clear when you sign up for free membership what you can and can't do. It is only once you have taken the time to load up your information, write your profile etc, that you learn that you need to be a paid up member to properly use the service. You then end up with a site full of innactive free members, who never return after filling in their initial profile, once they realise they need to pay.

Our request (and we can only make a request) is that when Swinging Heaven is revamped, that the site is promoted as something for those interested in Swinging, and not on the basis that you can see lots of porn pics of real couples. Secondly we would also like it to be 100% clear to potential members, before they sign up what they will and won't be able to access for free. By this we mean not hidden away in terms and conditions.

This site has become the best of the Swingers sites in the UK, without the need for tricks, so although the site will now be aimed at making a profit, it would be great if the way it was promoted would remain honest and clear. Lets make it about swinging, and not the free pics.
