On Martin_M's behalf I think we'll disassociate this post from the one immediately above. One of the occupational hazards on this place MM! icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif

The Take over has happened - Live with it or leave easy as that! We have a chance to make Swingingheaven stay the Community it is but with all these concerns we have been going round in flaming circles.

Points both good and Bad have been raised by all sides.

Concerns over the Vid chat - If you dont want to use it - don't BOTHER in the same way a lot on here cannot be bothered by the current Chat room. Having different rooms for people in my opinion can be a good thing as it will make the main room slower if people are in the other rooms and people will be able to keep up better. Although I would still prefer it if the flash rooms support MIrc Access - Java is the pits. All the rooms will require moderation tho icon_wink.gif

Yes they do operate another site which I found deceptive and quite frankly useless - I would much prefer we forget that site and concentrate on the site we all love OK.

We have the chance to influence what happens here - the guys ARE listening. We made the comment that Verification is open to abuse but we backed it up with the empiracal evidence of the verification thread - result there is to be no verification on profiles.

They are listening so rather than whine about something that has not happened lets have constructive critique so that they can give us what we want which is then only GOOD for the site icon_wink.gif

My one question at the moment was raised months ago to Mark. Some people asked if the Profile section could be expanded so they did not have to have an ad. If this can happen where we can put as much or as little as we want with more than just our avatar pics in - surely its a good thing - Not everyone is here to swing (including the bosses) but I would like to take it one step further as a single fem. I wanted to place an ad which was more an extended profile so people in chat and on the boards could theoretically learn more about me and what makes me tick BUT I did not want it to be an ad which got responses. Is there anyway we can optionise the email funtion ie toggle it on or off so we can keep the ad/profile active and suit our purpose?

OK sunday Morning rant over back to normal

oh let us nurture this tiny voice of reason that calls from the wilderness.

I am sure we all still have many fears and reservations, but like the above, it would be great if we could all just pull together and help to ensure that the RIGHT changes are made, and that with constructive comment we can try to keep the wrong changes to a minimum.

As has been so eloquently said, Martin and the guys seem to be listening, and why shouldn’t they? It makes commercial sense to take advise from a community that collectively has many many years of experience of the scene / lifestyle under its belt.

Any good entrepreneur, when starting a new venture, will seek advice from the experts because it just makes sense, what doesn’t make sense is to get expert opinion, and then ignore it. I am sure that Martin & co are astute enough to realise this.

Lets give em a chance guys yeah? And if it all goes wrong, we still have the option to start afresh else where, and I will be the first to volunteer my services for free with setting up a new site.

Agreed TE to all those that think I am naive, I prefer to think I am cautiously optimistic, and I think that goes for a lot of others as well.

A very good morning to you, once again I will try as best as I can to answer a few questions.

. . . . . YOU specify if you want a picture included in the gallery, you can either remove it or have it in our own gallery. Basically you will have complete control over who sees what (unlike now). There is a non members gallery that only has page 3 type pics in, this is one of the legal morality issues at the mo with the site.

. . . . there is a members gallery, basically all the same pics as above with all others included. The gallery only has thumbnails on then when you click on it it would take you to the member profile.

Please remember here you have control if you want your pics included . . . . . .

To answer the other question about peeps joining to see naughty pics . . . . .

Martin

And a good morning to you too on this bright, yet fresh winter's sunny day.

Well so far Martin, that all gets a thumbup.gif from me icon_biggrin.gif

And me too thumbup.gif

I'm not at all that techy so if this is a "non" question from your point of view, accept that it will be a real question to others.

I have a techy question about the pics and stuff in the "galleries" confused.gif

Quite a few people here have in the past "nicked" pictures from and of each other and other sites/places for "comedy purposes" - You know; the "right click" and "save as . . . " or the "properties" and copy and paste thing (With me so far ?????)

I've seen pics on other sites that I'd like to have nicked and used here to take the piss (in my way) or have a laugh with.

But sometimes I'm not able to. When I right click - nothing happens

I've always assumed that it was due to some techy wizardry that floats somewhere 4' above my head, but put in place to stop other people having them.

Will you, would you please employ that same techy wizardry in the new galleries ?

*db - off now to read a glossary somewhere so I can frame techy question a little better.

Dear Mr Ben

Thanks for your input, we already know that some people resist change on all accounts.

The only things I can say on this note is as follows

1. Kick us when you have a reason to, when we do not deliver what we promise then feel free to kick me hard and fast from behind!. Until then it seems a little unfair unless there is something else behind it?.

2. Without improvement to things we would all still be driving around in Ford Modal T s. Live in huts in a forest somewhere and certainly would not be using the web or own a computer.

Its ok to resist change, it really is but good improvements to something that is good?

Martin

They'll be nobody left to kick you when the loyal memberships splintered. I'm guessing but i'd say there's a good 99% chance you'll ruin this site. I belive the loyal members should go create their own free site beofre it's too late.

Also - I'm not resistant to change, just bad ideas. In particular the commercialisation of communities.

PS - Note, I have no personal gripe with you. Nor am I tree-huggin anti-capitalist.I believe your ruin this site, even if you intend ot or not. Keep it 100% free and make no profit and you might have a chance. This site will fail because the cost of the improvements is the paying of your wages.

Ben, Martin is right on this one sorry......... He runs a business to make money. His business has just bought SH......... it too will need to make money.

We have concerns about the changes this will make to the SH community, but Martin is at least listening.

We do not know what will happen yet, but it is wrong to judge just because SH is now part of a profit making concern. Lets see the changes then judge.

M

Edited to add that if setting up a successful forum such as SH is so easy why doesn't everybody do it?

I have no intention of doing it. Im not one of the close-knit community. I'll lose nothing.

I think you're very naive. It's your loss.

I'm not being malicious. I think it's the only way YOU (not me) and your friends will hold your community together.

Ignore me if you want.

Well you've made your point. It is pretty obvious things will not be the same - none of the changes will be approved of by all. However, the overall proof of the pudding is in the eating. Most are prepared, in a pragmatic way, to see what the pudding tastes like. Then it is the time to make your personal judgement - everything else is prejudice!
