I have one thing to say to this and that is instead of membership fees and such cant u just run the site as it is with donations....and make them annon from whoever donates...i know afew sites like this and they are running fine......

Just dont get why u have decided to say it will remain free but honey were is the small print to prove this.......i just dont beleive u on this .....plus i cant afford any fees no matter when there introduced .......the reason i come here all the time is its free and the people are bloody great......

I openly invite any/all of you to come along and see/meet the kind of people you are going to be dealing with.

I know its very short notice, but that seems to be the theme of the day lol.

This is the reason this site works so well.

I do believe that Mark will definitely NOT have taken this decision lightly.
Perhaps though it has started to take up far too much of his time, when he also has a business to maintain and a family to look after.

Mark has been here for us all - we should now support him in his decision.

To the new owners - maybe start canvassing the views of the membership - perhaps many are not interested in the 'premium' facilities especially if they are likely to be charged for - as there are well grounded free alternatives such as msn, yahoo, icQ, , paltalk! Charging for services involves passing over personal details including real names and addresses - I, for one, would not like to pass this information to a company owned swinging site (although I would trust Mark with that info).

You also need to assure us that you primarily have our interests at heart and will protect our identities.

For us members - we should not give a knee jerk reaction without more information and a bit of time to let things settle.

I am extremely sad (nay, devastated) to see Mark go - but the decision must have been a very very hard one for him to make. I feel honoured to have been a member whilst he was here - I wish him well.

There are some very clever people on here - some who are quite cabable of setting up a similar site if necessary, so if the site does change out of recognition, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that someone may do just that at some point in the future.

The deal seems to have been done - so there will be a period of adjustment - the owners to get to know the site and the membership and vice versa.

You never know - they may come to love us just as Mark did icon_wink.gif

From a very sad Alex

As someone who has only been logging on to the forum and chatroom for a short few months, Maybe I shouldnt say anything, but to the previous owners I would like to say thanks for all the hard work you have put in in creating something unique and quite wonderful in a commercial world , your reward should be the opinions and sadness now being express by the regular users that the site has been sold and may change, for my part I hope that the community I have found here doesnt change.

To those who are worried that the site may change for the worse may i say give it a chance guys, we dont really have a lot of choice but to give the new people our support and if they are found unworthy of that, to perhaps move on and build our own site!

As I used to say to mrs. sexyluke, suck it and see!

Luke

Devils advocate question here:

If all the volunteer mods and ops stopped doing it and you couldn't replace them with other volunteers, would you have to charge for the existing site then?

Congratulations. And that qualifies you to run our website how exactly? icon_rolleyes.gif

I have just a few questions (to begin with), mainly about your suitability to declare yourself fit to breeze in out of nowhere and put yourself in charge:

1. What interest does the new owner have in the SH Community?

2. Does the new owner know anything about or care anything about the SH Community?

3. Does the new owner expect the volunteer mods, ops, and other people working for the Community voluntarily behind the scenes to carry on doing so while a commercial concern benefits from that work?

4. How does the transfer of ownership to a commercial entity affect the Page One promise that Swinging Heaven will "NEVER" be a paysite?

5. Will the new owners expect to be paid royalties for the use of SH logos on Munch badges and tie pins, or will they regard it as free advertising?

6. How will the new owner, being apparently unfamiliar with the Community, know which group gatherings to sanction as site meets and which to regard as private parties?

7. Will the new owner respond to site-related communications addressed to the previous Administrator, or do I have to write the whole flucking lot out again?

8. To what extent has the previous Administrator's departure been influenced by the aggressive behaviour of certain members of a copycat/breakaway site, and how does the new owner propose to prevent further disruption from that source?

9. Is the new owner aware that the people who work so hard to keep SH alive and free do so out of love for the Community and loyalty to the founder? How does the new owner propose to inherit that loyalty? Has the new owner broken bread with anyone here? Does the new owner even remotely know anyone here?

10. Who are you? What is the name of your company? Is it familiar to Watchdog viewers? Why the big secret?

Apology accepted, but I still need to know what you're doing about USC, Title 18, Section 2257? It's a rather critical issue for those of us who have sexually-explicit photos posted here.

Cheers,

Elliot = A question for you.

How long have you been on this site under a different name.

You may ask the reason I ask = simple. No one in their right mind would buy anything without knowing what it was all about. A Takeover without a study of the site !!! Never.

I am sure other members of the site would like to know if they have spoken to you without the knowledge of your intentions.

Fred

I suppose my only surprise is that....people are surprised icon_eek.gif was there really that kind of naivity around that folk thought the place would plod on forever without a commercial gain being made or being sought?....surely not.

Like everyone else I can only guess at events, but if you guess at a site starting out in a small way, with the owners not really knowing how it would grow and form itself, but then finding perhaps to thier surprise that the time and effort and I will also guess at a bit of cost as well, has made it grow into something that is much bigger than they envisaged and into something that now has a workload thats seriously impinging on life and a commercial value that can't be ignored, what would you do?...yep sell it! and why not. What the hell is so wrong about realising a worth on something you own and deciding to take that worth to provide for you and your own, cos I'm buggered if I can find fault in that.

So now there are new owners and those owners are going to try and make a shilling or two with thier new purchase. They have made thier initial announcement and already a few sticks and stones have been chucked over the walls at em. commercialism, greed, scammers, blah, blah, blah, well so what, someone sees an opening, sees an oppurtunity to add to thier existing business does the leg work splashes out the dosh and thats ohhh so wrong?....eerm no it isnt, its real life, you might not like it but thats pretty much how the world works, someone puts in the work, some starting capital and a business is born and on the back of that with a bit of luck comes a copper or two, ohhh and that terrible word as well....shall I say it?...shall I? ..go on then say it.....PROFIT.

Change can often be unpallatable, we all like the comfort of what we know, but change is ineviatable in nearly everything we do, touch and get involved in, sometimes for the better sometimes for the worse, but as sure as eggs are eggs it is with us all.

I ain't trying to piss on peoples concerns, but thus far its been said that the existing membership is gonna be uneffected, sort of tuped over and thats fine by me and if the time comes that the place changes into something that I don't like, or into something I can't afford, then I will open that same door that I opened when I walked into the place...the one marked 'free' and gently shut it behind me.

Best of luck to the old owners and best of luck to the new.

Once again DaveJ has echoed my sentiments exactly.
Cheers Dave, saved my fingers doing the work, plus you are far more eloquant than I

To be fair Clare Elliott has been rather busy for the past hour or so - and that includes a protracted phone call with another Mod.

Just read all the way through and whilst i was annoyed to start with am now feeling a bit cynical about a few points....
.....the main one being the only point of law that has been brought up was by Reece and was mysteriously missing from Elliotts last response - surely if you are taking this on and run other sites as you say then you know the answer straight way.
Also not going to knock someone for mis-spelling - but seeing as you are the new owner and given fairly official replies then i would have thought you might check your grammer and spelling.
In other word there seems something a bit odd, possibly flipant and definately casual about all of this.

End of being cynical - it MIGHT be ok!!

ONE thing I have tight in my head is that Mark would not hand over the site to cowboys or fly-by-night operators. Whilst he may have moved on from his creation I have no doubt that the new owners have their heads screwed on.

This is NOT a chatroom.

PS - I have already made mention of the spelling! icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Reese - we are a UK company governed by Uk law, and have had a UK lawyer and a UK barrister draw up any legal concerns we have. We have some procedures that we are required to be put into place but it will be completly transparant to the end user.

Fred aka Medic 1 - i signed up for 30 seconds the other day, placed a simple ad, and had a quick 5 min look in the chatroom. We didn't really need to see the site to much, as we were in discussions with Mark regarding its stats, which is what we needed to know first off.

And yeah, spelling is bad, and so's my reply time, however, i have beeen on these forums now since 10 oclock, and have not stopped reading or replying, so can i be let off icon_biggrin.gif
