We are thinking about merging the Introduce Yourselve & Just For Fun areas with The Cafe, before we do that I'd like your feedback, so please vote in the poll or comment below.
I think a double merge will mean the introductions get read and the fun stuff will lighten the cafe atmosphere.
The JFF Forum deserves its own place.
Maybe you should merge identical threads first :giggle:
Edit: deleting them is cheating!
I think a double merge (oo er missus) would be great - the Cafe can seema bit slow and lack of new posts discourages people from dropping in and posting.
I do reckon people (myself included) have left the Intros thread alone, leaving new posters feeling perhaps a bit ignored. If it comes back in here, I'm sure they will get more responses.
I was going to vote, but there isn't a choice that says leave cafe and fun seperate, but switch the fun forum and current affairs on the forum menu :evil2:
oooh thats an idea minx and mebbe JFF does deserve its own niche.
i have voted to leave them as they are
the choice i would like tho is to merge the cafe with the CA forum
These are good points tweeky but if memory serves the cafe did have a regular selection of contentious threads for a year or two before the CA forum was established.
I am not clever enough to retrieve a tardis thingy tho.
i'm up for a full merge CA too
prefered it the way it was its way too slow these days might be why it doesn't hold my interest
Wow tweeky thanks for that link.
It just goes to show how fallible memories can be. You are quite right the CA seems to have established a political soap box for threads that before would have either fallen by the wayside or been widely ignored.
Well, well, well. Do you think just getting rid of it would work? I have always agreed with you that having a CA forum makes as much sense as having a cookery forum or a fishing forum.
If it was a sex only forum it would be shite. It's nice for people with similar hobby interests to be able to chat about other stuff as well and if i'm with friends in a cafe then we discuss everything and anything bar our 'hobby' unless we're with swingers. It seems tome the forums here reflect that with the added benefit of being able to drop fisting or anal sex type discussions into the mix - Forum should be diverse and inclusive for all subjects and kept in one place.
I'd merge most of it back into the cafe, CA included.
JFF type threads I'm not arsed about any which way. I'd find them as easily ignorable if they were in the Cafe as they are in their own little forum, but they serve a purpose in that they make it easy for new posters to get involved.
The intro forum clearly hasn't worked. I can't remember the last time I looked at it, but I just have now, and most of the posts on page 1 haven't had a single reply. Back in the day I'd generally make some sort of effort to welcome newbies and encourage them to post, as would others, and that's been lost.
The CA forum IMO was created in the first place because certain kinds of posters and certain kinds of topics were deemed to be poisoning the atmosphere of the Cafe, and so they were hived off into their own little ghetto where people could ignore them more easily. In giving those kinds of posters and those kinds of threads a free run, in what is despite some people's contention a very loosely moderated forum indeed, all that's happened I think is that the atmosphere on the forum in general has been poisoned still further, because the combative posting styles displayed in there spill over into other forums. That's not a criticism of anyone in particular cos I'm as guilty of it as anyone. Merge the lot and I suspect there'd be a lot less of it.
N x x x ;)
I really like reading the CA though I post rarely as I can't be arsed with the almost at times fanatical research and work that goes into it's discussions/debates/arguments/goading. This is certainly not an indictment on the CA more envy I guess at my lack of willing to put the google footwork in before posting and then arguing the toss ad-nauseum over technicalities but a big up for those who do.
In saying this the CA has taken some of the people who posted interesting stuff away from the cafe leaving the cafe wanting and undermanned. The cafe forum needs the mix of all topics for me as i like to spill over from topic to topic without having to leave the room.
I've come to realise new posters will always have to suffer the feelings of having the proverbial shit kicked out of them but there are those that will support and encourage them as well so maybe it's horses for courses in the end./ Those posters who have been banned in recent times are a loss to SH forums as by enlarge their contributions over time have been great and very worthwhile. Although, I can see that at one point on time things were going awry and moods were not in good places the posts became acrimonious childish and petulant and something had to be done. A shame really as I feel the reprisals were too harsh but hey I wasn't privvy to behind the scenes.
Get the cafe back to full strength lets have lively discussions together with silliness sadness and the lame but necessary welcome and happy whatever day threads.
As for moderation? No one says we cant complain or whinge or applaud how it takes place but its done by people who are just that, people. There are rules which must be adhered to and has to be done by interpreting them with their own ideas and opinions, and as such, the way the moderation tales place can appear, especially to those affected at any given point, to be uneven, whether or not it is matters not. They are moderators and have been chosen, by the administration, based on their willingness and integrity to do what is best.
Well so far folks if this were a general election the
Merge both the intro forum & fun forum with the cafe party
Is going to get a huge majority in the house.
Seems to be an outside debate for a new party too though!
