Katherines, Sheppards. - Quite a secluded spot in the forest/fields (on the outskirts of Harlow)
We went here on a recommendation from others on this site. It was a warm Monday lunchtime and there was only one car in the small car park. We walked into the park and saw a dog walker so assumed it was his. After walking a few metres we found the Bird Hide hut. its small but had benches to have some fun on. Very secluded but hot in there on a warm day. We then walked around the grassed pathway and came to another nice spot. There was a picnic bench to sit on. The place was very quiet, probably because it was a Monday afternoon so we had some fun on the grass. The place was still quiet until around 1700 when it was obvious that the dog walkers were back out. This is a great place for some outdoor fun and we'd definitely go again during the week. A great afternoon in the sun.
Knighton woods is a great place to meet, lots of quiet areas and is accessed by numerous locations as it’s essentially in the middle of a suburban development. Easiest access is via Kings Place next to The Three Colts pub off queens road in Buckhurst Hill. Or at the top of Knighton woods for parking on Knighton Lane. Beware there are a few dog walkers around but plenty of privacy in secluded areas. It’s a gorgeous wood.
Is it still active as I've been there few times and it looks abandoned

Salary Brook nature reserve is near Scarfe Way, off Avon Way, Greenstead, Colchester. Salary Brook runs the entire length of the reserve. There is a network of grassed footpath with a hard surface joint pedestrian/cycle path parallel to Avon Way.
Barling Magna Wildlife Reserve we were told about this place by a friend, its a short drive from southend but easily accessible, we have been a few times during the day but not actually bumped into any others over there yet but hope to soon. however for daytimes it is ideal as has a nice secluded bird hide that looks like its rarely used by anyone so great for a little fun during the day
