the gay couple should have booked a hotel where they would not have encountered this problem.

As I understand it, there were no signs or notices saying that same sex couples were not welcome.

But how do we stop the building of yet more towns, cities, factories etc in the countryside?

By reducing the need and dependency on land due to overcrowding in cities? By giving better tax breaks to companies to invest in already developed areas where unemployment is a big factor? Plus the usual copy and paste answers of immigrations and benefit dependence.
Reading yesterdays (or it might have been todays) Metro, his mother said he was a good boy, she hopes that the courts don't make an example of him, and that any imprisonment will damage his future prospects.
I personally would like to have seen him done for attempted murder, and really made an example of.

What I object to is someone being criminalised for doing what they feel is right and something that hurts no-one.

So somebody is struggling for money, they need to eat, and go shoplifting to feed themselves. They feel this is right, as they have to survive, and nobody is hurt - is this right? Your statement could see you condoning criminal activity.
Who decides that no-one is hurt?
As for the OP, I am someone who is regularly guilty of speeding. As a licence holder, I am deemed competent enough to operate machinery that if misused, is capable of killing, as such, I have a duty of care to myself, other road users, and other potential users (i.e. pedestrians crossing a road)to operate that machinery in a safe manner, as set out by law passed in Parliament.
Any dereliction of that duty by myself renders me liable to be dealt with by the authorities as they see fit, and by my actions/inactions, I have to accept any punishment that comes my way. This is the choice I make when I choose to speed, and should have no complaint if/when I get caught. I am grateful for other drivers warning me, but if I drive correctly, there is no need for these warnings.
A driving licence is a priviledge not a right.
People who have cases/suitcases that has wheels on, they carry them down stairs, then stop right at the bottom to put the case down and pull the handle up, rather than walk forward a few more feet, and be considerate to those following.
I have a question.
If the hunting is (in some areas) about the control of the fox population, therefore providing a service to the farmers and the countryside, then where is there such a need for the pomp and pageantry to do this?
Why is there a need to dress a certain way? Would someone be discouraged from riding in one of these hunts if they were to arrive in a football shirt and a pair of combats?

Don't worry, we're sharing things with the French now, that's if they don't surrender first!

Maybe they`ll be more worried that we might go around starting wars all over the place.
At which point the UK troops look over their shoulders and the French are scuttling backwards....

Swinging is not generally acceptable so it makes for a slightly more "touchy" enviroment...

It is only a touchy environment because of the people involved, not the swinging.

they dont pay tax as normal people do. They use accountants to ensure its all kept in their own grubby paws.

Tax avoidance is not illegal.
The only reason for that is, they cant find anyone in the commons that would be innocent of the offence.
So they would have to resign from the job.
Not really rocket science is it. wink
Just as well really, seeing as I take advantage of it.
This message was typed with my grubby paws....

Why dont they sack the rich bastards that caused this mess, make them pick fruit to pay off the dept they have given the rest of us.
Sorry forgot that they all vote TORY so they cant be expected to do honest work.

I think you will find a lot of this mess was caused by Brown and Darling.
Nothing to do with the filthy rich bankers buy toxic dept then.
Then paying themselves a huge bonus, for taking the company that employes them into bankrupcy.
Any other industry would have seen them sacked for incompetence.
Not disagreeing with that.
However, you blame the Tories, which is a lazy and convenient argument for the mess we are currently in. You blame the Tories, but once the bankers had got themselves into the position they did, it was left to Brown and Darling to agree to a £500bn bailout of the banks.
And with that, the two questions I have to ask you is a) how are the Tories to blame for that particular decision? b) Where did the £500bn come from?

I think I have the answer !!
We should convert all the Monetary Debt into BISCUIT Debt. For instance instead of us owing 386 Billion pounds we could convert that to 386 Billion Jaffa Cakes, the Irish could convert their debt into Waggon Wheels and the Greeks could use Kit Kats.
So now we're trading in useful stuff and stuff which can't be created by tapping a key on a computer. Also, if the warehouses where this "biscuit debt" is kept has a rodent problem then the debt disapears overnight.............Simples !!!
John

Sorry John, no can do.
Because of VAT rules, Jaffa Cakes could NOT BE CONSIDERED as eligible for biscuit debt as the simplistic answer is that CAKES GO HARD WHEN LEFT AND EXPOSED TO OPEN AIR and yet biscuits GO SOGGY!
It is not for me to lead you, but a leading source of user submitted articles states the following:
Under UK law, no Value Added Tax (VAT) is charged on plain biscuits and cakes — they are "zero rated". Chocolate covered biscuits, however, are subject to VAT. In Ireland, plain biscuits and cakes attract the "reduced" rate. Chocolate cakes and biscuits attract the "standard" rate. McVities classed its Jaffa Cakes as cakes, but in 1991, this was challenged by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and the case ended up before the courts. This may have been because Jaffa Cakes are about the same size and shape as some types of biscuit, and particularly because they are commonly eaten alongside, or instead of, traditional biscuits. The court asked "What criteria should be used to class something as a cake?"
McVities defended its classification of Jaffa Cakes as cakes, producing a 12" (30 cm) Jaffa Cake to illustrate that its Jaffa Cakes were simply miniature cakes.
McVities argued that a distinction between cakes and biscuits is, among other things, that biscuits would normally be expected to go soft when stale, whereas cakes would normally be expected to go hard. It was demonstrated to the Tribunal that Jaffa Cakes become hard when stale. Other factors taken into account by the Chairman, Potter QC, included the name, ingredients, texture, size, packaging, marketing, presentation, appeal to children, and manufacturing process. Potter ruled that the Jaffa Cake is a cake. McVities therefore won the case and VAT is not paid on Jaffa Cakes in the UK.

If you want to see how low the media can sink, have a look at this BBC interview with
Jody McIntyre;
BBC Interviewer; 'Did you shout anything provocative, or throw anything that would've induced the Police to do that to you'
Jody McIntyre; 'Do you really think a person with cerebal palsy, in a wheelchair can pose a threat to a Police Officer who is armed with weapons'

Due to reading articles in tonight's Evening Standard, I went looking for this clip before I saw that you had posted it.
I saw for the first time the clip of Jody McIntyre being pulled from his wheelchair, and IMO, that officer is not fit to hold the responsible position that a Police Officer does, I also hope that he faces disciplinary action from both his employers and the law.
I also feel the reporter shows up the BBC and their editorial team for trying to get sensationalist angles from the interview, and I applaud Jody for his responses.

Well it was created, a bunch of bankers helped raise money to fight a war as I recall. Im sure they have a website with all the info on.

They do, including the fact that it was nationalised in 1946.
so, the bank of england, that was created by a small group of private bankers in 1692, 1693, 1694 who came over from europe, financed the greatest expansion of merchantile empire the world has ever known, financed umpteen expansionary wars and continental takeovers along with the industrial revolution, the greatest expansion of production the world has ever known, at the end of world war 2, gave up their power of the creation of credit to a bunch of bankrupt social democrats without a shot being fired ?
you max and the b.o.e. website must be dreamin. oh, in my opinion.
regards alf

i am not prepared to enter into sermantics about 1692, 1693 or 1694. it is irrelevent to the subject matters under discussion and merely a diversion away from them.

Make your mind up.
