:inlove: :inlove: Oh darling, how wonderful to see you posting on here :inlove: :inlove:
Now, for goodness' sake, make everyone happy and post on here more often!! :jagsatwork:
Before Sappho is subjected to derision over the Andrew Marr thing (I have to say that I still don't quite understand it myself dunno), after all, he has been quoted as saying that somebody came up to him in a shop once and said, "You look just like that Andrew Marr off the telly. You poor bugger!" lol  rotflmao In her defence, she does live with me. Under those circumstances, Andrew Marr must look pretty bloody gorgeous! redface

As much as I hate to contradict you the most perfect woman on Radio 4 is the one and only Samantha... no one yet has managed to find a picture to do her justice... but we live in hope! rotflmao :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Bloody hell Vix, I couldn't agree more. Charlotte Green does indeed have the sexiest voice on radio and it does wonderful things to me. I have to say (and I know this will sound mean) that, in my mind, she didn't look quite like that. I will need therapy now. I am not saying that she's unattractive, in fact she looks quite nice - just different from how I imagined (time to stop digging, I think :dohsmile
Vix, you have ruined a beautiful image that can never be the same again!! smackbottom :smackbottom:
I may have to make you make amends for that some day!!
Will - Charlotte Green fantasy now shattered and scarred for life!
The Newsreaders' contribution is always the highlight of what I am afraid I always feel is rather a mixed evening in terms of quality. However I do have to say one thing - My God, I could do that Fiona Bruce some damage!!!
I have always had a bit of a soft spot for her (well, actually - not so soft!! redface surprisedopssmile, but my word, didn't she look stunning tonight?
Halfway through the sketch Sappho sent me a text, "How's your temperature?" How well she knows me  rolleyes
Anyone else fancy a newsreader (male or female)?

Well said, Tune my old mate. The main reason that I joined this site was because it was free. The main reason that I stayed was because it was such bloody good fun. Then I met my dearly beloved (who joined precisely 7 days after me) and the rest, as they say, is history. Which, for those who know us, is a very appropriate sentiment.
I do have a few thoughts (now that the initial shock has worn off).
1. I hope that Mark got a LOT of money for the site. I do know how much it meant to him and have a little knowledge of just how much time and effort he has put into it. Obviously, the mods will know more than I do, but from what I know I think it was an act of unbelievable self-sacrificing dedication and I don't begrudge him a single penny of whatever he got (though I suspect it won't nearly have matched the effort he put into it).
2. Looking at this logically (which I always try to do), why would the new owners make wholesale changes? Presumably, they bought it because they could see that it was successful. Well, the best way to keep it successful is not to make any hasty changes. I shall await wth interest the new features and only comment on them when they have been unveiled.
3. Nothing stays the same for ever. Things move on. I am as shocked as everyone else but let's try and make the future work. Having spent good money for the site I can't believe that the new owners want to f**k it up so let's try and help them make sure that they don't.

Been off work for the last two days and, until now, have even been too poorly to log on.
Worse still, I was too poorly to make the journey North today (believe me, it HAS to be serious to keep me from going home!).

Nothing to do with Mrs TE I hope?? She was pretty awful before last weekend. What happened in the cricket?? :(I know. Not a good week. We lost the cricket, I have had to go back to the hospital with my eyes (well, I couldn't exactly have gone without them - but you know what I mean) and now I have got the dreaded lurgy.
It never rains but it pours!
Will :(
PS I do hope Mrs TE is better now. kiss for her (well, any excuse! :twistedsmile
Well I don't want to simply repeat what everyone else has said, but Sappho and I have even more reasons to be grateful to this site than most of the fine folks on here. We met through this site and now have a wonderful family together.
"Thank you" really doesn't do justice to it somehow.
Mark and Helen, it was a pleasure to meet you a couple of years ago and we are all tremendously grateful for what you have done.
Good luck an enjoy yourselves.
Will (and Sappho)

I can't really add much here, except to say that I hope that everything works out. You are a much valued member of the Forum and you have certainly not don anything wrong.
I like postie's suggestion of sending a PM and seeing what response you get.
It's not really any of our business, of course, but by posting this thread you have got us all wondering what will happen next confused :? . Hope it all works out for you.

Good grief OOTD!!
What a lovely surprise. Great to see you back. Sappho will be delighted when I tell her.
Look forward to seeing you around in the Forum wave

It is quite rare for me to get home at a sensible time in the week and log onto the Forum. In celebration the delightful Jags has opened the GFZ early. Apparently, so she says, the rules only apply to 'other mods'
So, who's for a drink, massage, snog etc.?

PS I am in sooooo much trouble when Jags sees this. lol
PPS Sappho has just asked me what music I want at my funeral. Can't imagine why! dunno

I was just talking to Sappho about this series - I didn't see last night's episode, I will have to wait for the re-run on Sunday.
Frankly, my views are a bit mixed. It is great fun and I really enjoyed the first episode - but it needs to be taken with an enormous pinch of salt (something much prized in Roman days, from whence we get the expression of someone being "worth their salt" and also, incidentally, the modern word 'salary' - but I digress).
There is a huge mixture here of historical fact, dramatic licence and downright speculation. Some of these have already been alluded to.
For example, the line "another dormouse, senator?" is surely only there to point out that the Romans ate dormice. This is completely true and well documented. A particular delicacy was stuffed dormice.
I remember from the first epsode a wedding with the bride being hidden behind a deep red veil. Again, perfectly accurate and well documented.
Other matters are far less reliable. 'Betrothal rights' are, at best, speculation - though not entirely out of keeping with the traditions of the time. Other sexual aspects are also largely dramatic licence, and quite possibly aimed at increasing viewing figures (though enormous fun  :twistedsmile. However, the Roman age of consent being around 13/14 is, as far as I can remember, about right.
I am quite sure that the family discussing who is going to kill who is another piece of pure speculation.
As I have said, this is fun to watch but my main criticism is that it is not at all clear (unless you happen to know already redface) what is historical fact and what is speculation or dramatic licence. So, please don't take this whole series as historical fact - it isn't.
However, I hope you all continue to enjoy it - and I am sorry if it is a little too gory for some of you. Fortunately, I have never been squeamish lol.
Will

Right, I know that I am going to hate myself for posting this, but I am afraid that I cannot contain myself any longer. Whilst I thoroughly agree with ACs award of the Swinging VC, her signature has been driving me mad ever since. It is just that that is NOT a VC (Victoria Cross), it's a DFC (Distinguished Flying Cross). Perhaps it should be a DSO (Distinguished Service Order - which could, perhaps be renamed the Distinguished Swinging Order) but the mismatch of title and image is driving me mad.

Will - I'll get me coat bolt
ahhh, no doubt the aroma of the 105 roused you. Well, it is safely stashed in the cupboard - waiting for you to come and try it!
Oh, and Sappho clearly likes the new avatar. Darling, you're dribbling again (Will passes Sappho a tissue) rolleyes :therethere:

Right, well at chez Will'n'Sappho tonight we are serving Kier Royale (Champagne and Creme de Cassis) Glenfarclas 105 (see the Jd v Scotch thread).
Sappho Jr is away for the weekend, the twins are asleep, the takeaway has been ordered (so neither of us has to cook/washup) and the champagne and stawberries are ready and waiting - for the second weekend running
Looks like we may be in for an early night!
Now here's a spooky thing....having written this only a week ago, Sappho told me that a new upmarket wine merchants had opened in town (just 3 days ago). We duly went along today - purely in the interest of supporting local entrepeneurs, you understand redface
There was a locked section in the corner of the shop that had the really expensive fine wines and other special treats. Like a child confronted by a brightly lit sweet shop I pressed my nose to the glass to gaze on the forbidden fruits. What was the very first thing that my eye alighted upon? A bottle of Glenfarclas 105
I could hardly believe my luck
I spoke to the proprieter who confessed that he had never tried it but had been recommended by someone 'in the trade' to have it as a speciality/curiosity. Having extolled its virtues, I asked if I could have it.
Not too many minutes later (after having indulged fully in a free wine tasting surprisedopssmile I left the shop clutching a box containing 2 Tasmanian Pinot Gris, 1 McGuigan's Black Label Merlot, a rather extravagant Chateauneuf du Pape (believe me, it will be worth the second mortgage ) a bottle of Creme de Cassis (for Kier Royale  )and the highly prized 105 worship
The bank account was £80 lighter   and I walked home through the rain, clinging lovingly onto my box and smiling like a contented cat :smug:
I have tried the nectar (for reasons of quality control, you understand) and it is just superb. I got Sappho to try it and she expects to regain the power of speech sometime around next Wednesday rolleyes The reason for this diatribe? To encourage as many of you as possible to try and locate this heavenly distillation.
All I need now is to find someone who will truly appreciate it to share it with. Jags? Laird and Lady Fee Bee? Can I tempt you?
Will (hic drinkies)

Oooh. I wonder rolleyes
Yep, 'tis true. Tonight we were planning the first night of bubbly and strawberries for many a long month. Unfortunately, Sainbury's didn't have any strawbs this afternoon so it may well be only bubbly, but, hey, who's complaining?
Two kids in bed, one to go! Then I shall be disappearing from here quicker than a greased ferret up a drainpipe
In the meantime, Mrs FC, Kit and Jags I am entirely at your service. LAIRD?????? Fancy giving me a hand? No doubt you know how to keep Scottish women in order. They scare the hell out of me!! :eeek:

PS If Kit or Jags get PMs from Sappho about eye drops - it's a lie!
I am sure you are not getting old. I am afraid that I do find R2 just a little too non-descript for my liking and never listen to it, but that's just a matter of personal taste.
I mean, the station I listen to most frequently is R4. I am sure that would damn me in many people's eyes redface
Other than that it's CDs, R3 and NOT Classic FM (I can hear the cat calls from here! surprisedopssmile occasionally R1 and, when I am within range, Capital Radio.
Ok, I am probably a pariah now. I'll get me coat bolt
Will
PS I do have to agree that Steve Wright and Johnnie Walker have always been brilliant
Angel, you poor love. We are certainly not going to take the piss out of you. That sounds really nasty :therethere:
Hope it gets better soon and that the pain goes away.
Love from us both,
Will and Sappho kiss
