Rooms seem the same size, the room list is longer.
Saves looking for rooms and which server they are on, and changing to the wrong server and having to change back again.

Really difficult looking around the loads of rooms with just a little drop down list.....needs to be made bigger i think

i like the idea, but the chat lag is terrible, its taking 2 min(i timed it) for what i type to get it to show in the room

Tonight was just a test to see how many servers we would need, as we were not entirely certain how many people could use the chatroom on this server with the new licence, it looks like one will handle as many people as we have using it at the moment and then some, but we will have another put in case it goes down, so no less than two servers.
We will try and get another hooked in Friday, in the meantime if this one goes tits up we can flip it all back.
Edit The second server will be in place Monday

Whats the betting that we will go back to 4 servers or even the old 3? I really cannot see the point in one main room. :shock:
I am not a computer genius but....why alter something that up to they introduced the 4th server, was working perfectly ok? For months the chat has been working great, then along comes server 4 and the trouble begins. You all know the problems...rooms crashing, being kicked off the server you was on. Can we turn the clock back 4 months to how the chat rooms used to work please? It seems to me, change for changes sake!

Can't say I'm surprised by any of your comments, when you think about it, this is a big step forward, instead of hopping between rooms to find a room now all you have to do is scroll down one list, so how can that be a bad thing, at least we won't get any complaints from people not being able to get into chat 1 any more, or maybe you'd like to go back to that, I'm sure I don't.

lets not condemm it before it gets off the ground. this may actually benifit us i,m sure Elliott and the team are working for us not against us and how do we know if there changes will work if we dont give it a fair chance. We all get used to the way things are and none of us like change but sometimes changes can be for the good not the bad . i know the guys at admin etc are working hard for us and i think criticism is important but also support for there work in making this site a reliable one for us all is important as well cheers guys

i know ive already left my thoughts on another post, but i do think this will be an better version of the chatroom, i prefere the fact you can see what rooms are open with out having to swtich servers 3 times, to get the same result. plus when you first log in now, all you need to do in look for your usual room, instead of working out where you are first. maybe i'm just more lazy than others lol.
like any system change your going to get teething problems. i'm only fully aware of this fact, as our company has just had SAP installed, and it has caused on end of greif. when it first arrived, it had loads of opersition, saying that is was not as good as the old system. but in reality it is about 1000 times better. a little slower but better none the less. now people are getting used to the differnt controlls they are starting to see the light. the same will happen here, and in a few months time users will be thinking how they got on before the change.

I am all for change, if that change is a good thing. When a server went down before at least you had an option of other servers. With only 1 server what happens if that one is playing up? If this one server starts causing problems think you will have a lot of people moaning. Having at least 2 servers will benefit members if one of the servers is playing up surely?
I am not a computer whizz but....having a single server if it goes wrong, will def not be progress.

When there was a drop-down for "take me to", there was the option of the 3/4 rooms, plus Extras Lounge (never could see the point of that anyway) and "Logout". That all seems to have gone. Do we just close the window to get out, or is there a more efficient way? In the old system, "Logout" allowed you to get back in quickly, while closing the window meant you had to wait at least 5 minutes to get back.
In response to Kentswingers, when there were only 3 Servers, I kept getting blocked out of Chat 1; since the 4th was added, this hasn't happened to me.

Yes - i know its one large room - but instead of 4 servers with a number of other rooms - we now have ONE server with 4 or 5 main rooms which we cant get get into because they are all full! - yes i know its change and we dont laways like change - BUT there is change for change's sake and this appears to be it! - If its not broken dont fix it! Oh and yes the number of time we get frozen out of rooms has increase alarmingly!

We had to reboot it to put some fixes in place, I think I replied elsewhere about the 1 server thing, we always try to put in failover in everything we do, there's no way we would rely on one server for chat, the second will be in place Monday, in the meantime we can flip back if needed.
With the faster servers and new config we may be able to increase cam resolution as well so there are some good things that can come about.
And one of the good things that Jiggle mentioned with the recent changes, chat 1, I don't think anyone has any problems getting in there since we changed it, this is just a move forward in the same direction.

We could have 24 admin created rooms if you want and provided that they don't all fill up whats the real difference between having 6 admin created rooms on four servers or 24 on one, when eachj of them reach 70 or 80 thats it.

People post here all the time when things don't work and yes we did ask a long time back about things people would like to see in chat one day, one big room without moving around servers was on the list, amongst a lot of other things.

you'll probably hear it another 100 times over the next few weeks. but there everything has to have a natural form of evolution. if the room stays the same, then come a few months down the line you'll say its out dated.
