You have to remember flower that the people who have to close the room down are very busy people making sure everyone is polite, no one is breaking the rules and the policy is upheld, as well as other admin duties.
I'm not sure how long it takes you but i think 20 seconds is more then enough time to vacant to another room.

we often host a room and we occasionally tell the people in an unhosted room that we are about to open our own.
we try to be polite and find that in 99% of cases this works and we rarely have to kick people ... they usually leave of there own accord !!
there have been notable exceptions !!!!
It seems that sh policy says that all users should be polite to each other.
Is it polite for somebody to come into an unhosted room and tell the occupants that it will be closed in 20 seconds !!
Most of the people in the room are probably unaware that there is no room owner as we have no way of knowing !!
This is a serious question and i`m a bit nervous asking cos i know the consequences of upsetting people
But i found it downright rude !!!!

You have not read this post then http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/77907.html and this is also reiterated in the site rules - just in case, heres a quote :-
If you open a room, you are the Host of that room and as such, you are expected to uphold the Chatroom rules. Chatroom Ops will pop into your room to ensure that there are no problems. If there is something you aren't sure of please feel free to ask them.
If you leave that room it is then classed as being unhosted and may be closed by a Chatroom Op as there will be nobody there to control the room.
If you have finished with a room please ask an Op or Admin to close the room for you.

Ops are very busy, and need to get around as many rooms as possible to check all is well, so closing rooms is done ASAP to enable us to keep an eye on ALL the rooms.
Nowt rude about it, just tidying up and adhering to site policy.
If more people voice the same opinion as yourself, im sure it can be written in the OP guidelines that you should be given a minute in future, but this is only if people do speak up the same opinon.
Oh, and by the way, the text we use states 30 seconds, which as has been pointed out, is ample time - any longer and people keep joining the room and miss the message, and it just goes on and on.
*Sorry guys this room is about to close as the host is not in it. Please join another room within the next 30 SECONDS before the server boots you out or you will have to wait for 5 minutes before you can log in again. Thank you.*

And the wording is far from rude too.
It was me and I gave you 30 seconds - plenty of time to find another room confused
Remember we are very busy and do not have time to wait in rooms for everyone to leave before we can close a hostless room rolleyes

lol Jon beat me to it
TJ
No please be more specific, make it 1 minute and 15 seconds as obviously we have all the time in the world to sit in a room while people decide whether or not to find a new room or just sit there and hope we won't close it...
Quote by flower411
lets face face it half the people in the room take 20 seconds to type a line of chat while looking at the keyboard !!
me included
type >>>>> look >>>>>> oh ffs gone !!!

Well we gave you 10 seconds longer than the time you need to post your message so where is the problem? ;-)
TJ
i dont find a problem with the 30 second rule......apart from when im drunk, and it usually takes me 5 mins anyways to realise i have been kicked out the server... lol

urrmmm like the quote
never seen it before !!

Well if admin care to check the room logs for Yorks Swingers server three - they will confirm that I did indeed post that pop up quote and waited longer than 30 seconds before closing the room - so either you were not reading the room or you have just got your knickers in a twist rolleyes
TJ . . . . bored with this now confused

Getting some new op's on board is being looked into, however, I should point out that last night was particularly busy and not all the current op's available were logged on.
We are all volunteers and have to fit this position in with real lives, families etc.
I find it strange that people complain about a room being closed. I daresay they would also complain if they were in a hostless room and became the victim of verbal abuse with no one in there to take conrol of the situation.
Perhaps some people would rather members could not open their own rooms in order to avoid such situations happening again?
Op's cannot be in every room, nor can they be logged on here 24/7. We all need to have a little patience and strike a balance.
Now can we get back to chatting nicely please?

Jon i can see where flower411 is coming from, we ourselves have been in rooms that have been closed due to having no host and they have been running smoothly with no abuse etc and the first we all knew the room/s had no host was when the chatroom op said so, i think the quote you posted above should be changed from "may be closed" to "will be closed" as its very confusing to me and probably others who read it, like you said later in your reply they will be closed ASAP as the ops are very busy so stating this clearly in the rules themselves would make everyone that reads them understand what they mean. smile
No probs with rooms being closed here just the varieing time scales. Its not allways best to just find another room as in regular rooms others users will take the reigns by opening another room and thus 30 seconds isnt enought especialy when the user creates a room and doesnt enter quickly enough by which time the room closes.
Maybe a standard time of say 1 min to close a room is better to allow a new roome to be opened like last night in one room i was in

I think it's in the interpretation - by saying
If you leave that room it is then classed as being unhosted and may be closed by a Chatroom Op as there will be nobody there to control the room.

I read it as Ops may (as in have permission to) close rooms. Not that the room may (might) be closed.
Either way, it is standard operating procedure for Ops to close rooms where the host has left - otherwise we'll wind up with umpteen hundreds of rooms open and total anarchy.
Hope that clears it up for you.
Slight ethical quandary.
If you are watching someone's cam, should they still ask before whispering to you or does the fact that you are watching them give them the right to whisper with asking first?

Nope - they still have to ask first, unless the room title says whispering allowed. Viewing cams does not give any one rights over any other members ;-)
TJ
Thanks, I thought so I was just checking.

Why do people take offence when you ask them not to whisper?
I don't take it personally but I'm sure it must upset some people.
There's some odd folk about.
H.x
Well, I usually paste the whisper in the room and ask them politely not to whisper without asking. But it's amazing how many people take offence at this. Why can't people understand that it's rude? And when you've pasted one and asked them not to, another one does it. I just can't fathom the mentality behind it. One guy told me I should just ignore them if I don't want to read them but I on't see why I should have to.
Ok, it's more or less out of my system now.

Just a thought....
On the occasions I'm in a room that's about to be closed I usually opt to stay on the same chat server and go back to the default room (be it Pool, Jacuzzi or Corner Shop). The quickest way I've found of doing that is to select the same server you're already on from the drop-down "take me to" list.
smile
I think someone has already mentioned this, but wouldnt it make sense for everyone to be able to see who the room owner is? In this way we would be able to avoid ownerless rooms if we wanted to and be able to feel secure in the knowledge that there is someone's finger on the button if we should need it.
On the subject of closing rooms ... I was a room owner in a room, awake and watching the room when an op came in and gave the standard line. When i protested the answer was ooops wrong room ... but it closed anyway. Somewhat annoying but not a disaster as I have also kicked someone from a room with a slip of the finger. At least I followed up and sent the said member an apology. But at least if we knew who the room owners were then it would make the site easier for members. :wave2:
I hope they read that flower, have a good evening and good luck with your room.
H.x
I dont give any timed warnings myself when I'm about to close a room.
If it is a known, regular room, then I ask if anybody wants to open a new room. No answer is followed by "any takers?". If there is still nobody volunteering I then state the room is closing.
I guess this process takes over 1 minute, but the majority of the time nobody is forthcoming to open a new room.
If however the room only has a couple of people in, nobodies talking and is not a "regular room" full of chatters, then it just gets one warning.
