When people get frustrated by being 'dropped' out of the room for whatever cause, and have to wait 5 mins to get back in is unacceptable- 2 mins would be far better.

The last bit is just poor programming - there's no need for any wait time. All it needs in the script when someone tries to logon is for the server to check whether they're already (apparently) logged on. If the answer is yes, kill the existing session and log them back in again.
That isn't poor programming, it is there through our choice. It is there to discourage members from being idiots, getting themselves removed from the chatroom and having to wait 5 minutes to log back on.
It just so happens that it catches people when the server throws a wobbly and dumps you off.
The current time before you can enter chat when you've been kicked in the beta version, is 15 minutes. Long enough to cool down the fools, hopefully!
The beta shouldn't just dump out like the current version does so the wait shouldn't be a problem to most
p.s. Hello McrM4M-pvtOK kiss
Also it isn't possible to make the existing chatroom better, the basic architechture of the coding isn't up to the standards needed, its been developed as far as possible, so its had to be rebuilt from scratch, every line of code, quite a big project.
We have also tried to make it as similar to existing chat as possible, true there are new features, but they were requested, from our end the options were leave it as is and suffer constant complaints everytime it crashes or people have problems or try to make something better, so we've been working on it, there are those that will complain that its been taking too long, there are those that will complain that we shouldn't change anything, there are those that complain that we should fix what we have ( but we can't as stated above) and there are those that will complain whatever we do.
We are working on the new chat, its getting nearer to completion, but it won't be released until its better than the existing version, I know its been a long time coming but you do have a chatroom that works most of the time for most of you in the meantime, our aim is to eventually give you something better.

Just an idea ... in the new chatroom, would it be possible to give hosts a button to close down the room themselves?
I think that sounds a great idea - I'd also have liked the idea of a host being able to pass the access onto someone else rather than having to close a room down.

They dont need a button. The room will (should) close 30 seconds after the host leaves.

There already is a facility for 's called opening a new room wink

Sometimes when viewing profile pictures in the little box, if the picture is larger in height than width some of the picture goes into the next box down.
cpu time its using though is very very low, well done on that part biggrin

Sorry to be so negative, but I can't bear to look at the interface. I honestly think it's dreadful. If it's possible it's even worse than earlier versions.
Sorry.
sad
Just like to mention that twice now, The Pool room has sort-of booted everyone, with the message "The room creator has left, you'll be put somewhere else". That's not supposed to happen on those main, permanent rooms, is it?
On both occasions, pretty much everyone came straight back in without doing anything, but it screws up cams and such like.
I'll probably post some more thoughts on the new chat (which I actually prefer over the "new old" one (the "old old" one being the IRC one, of course)) at some point.
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply. cool BUT what if the host crashes or whatever and has every intention of returning but the peeps in the room don't know this, get booted and all hell breaks loose - as it does frequently in the NE room! lol
Or if Woo's in ya just get booted anyway ... wink
Oh - and another thing - will we know who the room host is?
again, the NE room has had recent issues with the host not revealing themselves and basically acting the arse, booting their least favourite people for no reason at all. confused

I`ve never understood why the room host`s identity is hidden especially as an op can come into a room and close it with 30 seconds notice, when the room occupants were not even aware there was no host !!

The Op will tell the room there is no host.
30 seconds is ample time to go to another room or set a new room up.
Will the loading time to get into the new chat be quicker once its up and running for good??
It seems to take a while on my computer..

Personally i don`t think it is.
But it is a problem easily solved by identifying the host and then rooms without hosts could be closed without warning.
The room closing when the host leaves is just going to cause a whole bunch of new problems.
30 seconds may be ample time to go to another room, but it presupposes you were already in the room when the warning is made.
If you enter a room and you see there isn't a host then you know straight away the room will close. Otherwise you could have just come in and then after 5-10 seconds later - boom!
The chatroom is already suffering from bad interface design, so anything to help the customer should be welcomed.
sad :( :(
Thanks for the above suggestions, it should be pretty easy to echo out the room host somewhere, so we will definitely put that in place.
So far as loading times I just tried both versions of chat on my pc and they were pretty much the same, the main difference is that the new version shows loading while all the bits are coming up whereas the existing one, shows chat followed by the other bits n bobs. It is something we will be keeping an eye on as we make the final tweaks.

But the same problem would occur if it was a 3 hour warning, beacuse people come in to the room at all different times so there would always be someone who has just came in as the room was shutting!!

True, but I think it's a question of giving people enough information so they know and understand what's happening and why.
If it's something that can easily be done then I believe it's to everyone's advantage.
Might be a good idea to have the room name. The host and whether they are present or not in the main rooms list at the top.
Altho some room hosts even altho their profile is in the room ,they are not,cos they are away shopping having a pee, shaging etc. rolleyes

Thus creating the problem of people moaning (quite rightly so) about rooms being closed without warning and rooms bombing out..
problems could also occure if the room host stays logged into a room but goes out shopping, shagging, or falls asleep etc there will still be no host as such to kick people out if necessary
sorry to be so negative....

I also share your misgivings. The interface is highly unpleasant and lacks intuition.
Also I think it has been driven by the 'need' to create the site in Flash. However a great deal has been lost in basic functionality.
