I tried to find somewhere to leave this as feedback, I just hope that some of the ops/mods read this and give me their views.
The chatrooms are fine, I dont have any complaints apart from the technical stuff of getting really bad lag at times. So what I have to say is not a compliant, more of lets make things better.
1 Whispers. A lot of the ladies complain that they get pestered by whispers, hence the reason why their is a ask before you whisper policy in most rooms. I realise that they can stop whispers, but that does not satisfy the problem as most room regulars whisper each other without needing permission. What if we could click on somebody's name and bar whispers from them, while allowing others (friends) to whisper them.
2 Cams. A lot of people enjoy going on cam and occasionaly somebody pops up who has a "issue" or "history" and they dont say a word and just watch their cam. It can be very unnerving. Similar to the whisper situation if you could click so somebody is not able to see your cam.
3 Whispers. Whispers are far too easily mucked up on here. I have said some very sensitive stuff out in the room and to other people which was meant to be a whisper, I have even heard about people being slagged off others and it being sent to the person whos being slagged off, not that I would ever do anything like that. Even when your being as carefull as possible if you hit enter as somebody leaves the room, what you have just said will go into the room. Could we have whisper boxes instead of the whisper being in the room. It would be much safer and easier to keep a track on your whisper instead of it being mixed up with the general room conversation.
4 Hosts. Years ago I was a regular on msn chat rooms, the room host was always at the top with a gold hammer. So every body knew who was in charge of the room. The host if busy could ask people who they knew to take care of the room in their absence and give them a brown hammer. Far much better than missing hosts when people are behaving like dicks and people are leaving the room trying to find a mod.
5 Kicking. When somebody was kicked on the msn chatrooms, you had various options. Kick them and they can come back in, kick them for 5 mins, kick them for 30 mins, kick them for an hour or kick them for 24hrs. Cos all that happens now is that people get kicked and come straight back in. Dont get me wrong if somebody miss uses the powers of being a host they should be held responsible because there are always people who allow a bit of power to go to their head, traffic wardens as an example.
Just some ideas
Some excellent ideas there. I'm pretty sure all of those suggestions would be welcomed by the majority of users on this site. I don't believe any of the ideas listed are beyond the realm of any website with a healthy revenue to support it. An improved, friendlier, more secure chatroom would encourage more genuine members and I'm sure the increase in membership such a chatroom would generate would eventually pay for itself. Let's hope some of these features make it in on the next update.

I think your comments may be better directed at admin. Altough the chatroom op's may read this, we are powerless to be able to implement any of your suggestions. Moderators I feel may be less interested as their priorities are in the non chat areas of the site. dunno

I agree I personally would prefer that option too.

I don't see how this can be an issue. If the person isn't saying anything, they are not being a disturbance :dunno:

Previously the chatroom ops used to close temporary rooms once the host had left, and we used to receive some very strongly worded comments by users who had been on site long enough to know better as we were "interfering".
Now we leave unhosted rooms open, and from the above comment we just can't win. Either we close unhosted rooms to ensure that the spoons can't spoil the enjoyment of others, or we leave them open and the masses could be subject to unruly behaviour.
The option of having the room host identified is something being looked at for the next generation of chatrooms. However I doubt that the "powers" would be transferrable otherwise we will find people staying logged on and idle for hours on end just so that their room stayed open.
Also room hosts used to have a five minute kick, however as this was seriously mis used by a number of room hosts, and at a point of site instability, this time delay was removed.
If anybody has issues with poor behaviour in the chatrooms then you should either report the incident to a chatroom op, or report the user. Either way the incidents will be dealt with.
