I've seen it at times as well, not sure really why they do it.
I did ask a lady once, but she said she did it as she wanted to, so non the wiser there really!

I've done it a few times, and that's cos I used to have 2 regular rooms that I went into and it saved me leaving one room for another - but if you got engrossed in a conversation in one room it was hard to keep up with the other
