I thought and was told that now there are only 2 servers that each room would hold more people. They were holding 80 but now that has dropped back to the old 70?
Any ideas anyone as to why?

Hi,
The 80 was a mistake in the last version released.
The chatroom has always supposed to have been 70, we increased it to 80 to test the higher capacity servers, but due to various issues it was dropped to 70 again.

just a quick rant (again) it would be appreciated if we had notice of your beta tests even just a note on chat program, if you did that you would find that us paying members would not come here and moan because we know where we are at !

So can we just clarify the situation here - we have had the chat servers cut in half but room capacity remains the same so basically the chat facility has been halved? Is this the case cos you cant get to chat with anyone that you know cos the rooms are constantly full! Are there any plans to rectify this please?

Hi and sorry for the rant but we have had our chat facility halved in capacity and was wondering why. Have spent all morning trying to get into chat rooms that are constantly full. At the end of the day we had 4 servers with rooms at 70 to 80 capacity and now find we have two super servers with the same capacity. Resulting in there been twice as many people trying to get to chat rooms that are already full!!
The changes were originally tabled to increase capacity and all that seems to have happened is that they have been severely diminished instead. Can we have the old rooms back please or capacity increased.

I think what Elliot is trying to say is that the room capacity is reduced back to 70 but the servers are increased. This means more rooms can be on the servers so you do benefit, but I might be wrong 
Anyway, we had 3 servers and the Extra's lounge, we now have 2 severs and the extras lounge. Very little difference to a chatter but a larger increase in the amount of rooms that can be created :?

Sounds a very logical question to me. If each server holds more rooms why cant you just increase the room capacity?
I think more people would like the rooms to increase in volume as 70 for some rooms is simply not high enough in the evenings. When it was 80 it was much better, I know another 10 does not seem much, but it def was better.

Chat capacity across the servers has increased, with the new servers more people can go into chat than ever before.
When we were testing we did try allowing 100 odd people in each chat room, it worked fine for many but a percentage of people had problems with browsers or pc's crashing as they just couldn't handle the load, one of the reasons that room sizes are as they are now.

have you ever been in a room where almost all are chatting .......... its difficult to keep up sometimes when only about 30 are chatting it would be impossible with 100

I think if everybody took the time to come in here and join in when they didn`t just want to moan the whole place would be run along lines that members prefered. And if your particular preference was not taken up you would be able to see the arguments that others had put up in favour of their own .. 
It's very rare I moan in here and I am quite able to accept that my preferences may not be the same as others and don't intend to gripe about it. I do reserve the right to have a preference and an opinion though and to be able to express them.

Due to the way the current chatroom works, lobby rooms will fill to the maximum capacity the room limit is set to (which is 80). In the chat, your button limit is 70, this stops people constantly trying to join a full room (which kills the server) and allows 10 spare spaces for ops and admin to get into.
When people join its done from the server, and so the server doesn't know your button limit is 70, only the room capacity is 80, so it will fill the lobby rooms to 80.
This is not ideal, and is damn annoying, and is one of the many reasons why we are trying to get a new chatroom off the ground.

And to clarify on the server point, i estimate each server can take around 3000 users. So we have 6000 users total. Extra capacity comes in the form of more rooms, not more users per room, as mentioned above, once you get too many users in a room your computer ends up giving up the ghost and flash crashing.
Again not ideal, and another reason we are wanting to get a new chat going.

E.g. Lancelot>Pool currently has between 72-77 people in it, and the Beach Bar about 20.
It's impossible to get into the Pool from within Lancelot due to it being >70 (fair enough) yet the number is going up and coming down so how are these other chatters getting in? Joining Lancelot from Guin always puts us into the Beach Bar even though the Pool's never at 80 yet some people obviously can get in it as the number is going up.
Any ideas as to why?

The additional users can get in through the extras lounge. The absolute max is 80 (plus Ops) but us ordinary serfs can only get in if the number is 79 or below.

These lobby rooms fill in order.
So if the Beach Bar is the 'first' lobby room. This will fill to 80, when the next user joins, they will be directed to the Pool for instance. Once The Beach bar drops to 79, a user will be put in there. So in reality, the first lobby room will always be full, and normally the second at busy times, we place 4 incase it gets very busy (and people don't filter off to other users rooms).
The button is set to 70, so unless the lobby room drops to 69 or less, you won't get in.
Not ideal we know, again this is why we are trying to develop new chat.

I'm a little confused on this extras shortcut.
Going in via the Extras Lounge and then swapping to another area is exactly the same as clicking on a Lance or Guin link on the main chatroom page. You will still get dropped into the next available lobby with empty space in the particular server you have decided to connect too
