Ok folks, your chance to have your say, we have the technology to make chat more reliable by moving to higher powered servers, which we will be doing, as the existing set up sort of works but is very unreliable.
Those that got into the new version of chat would have seen all of the rooms that you would usually need to flit between servers to see all in one long list.
There were however some bugs, they were all fixed apart from one, the 'ghost users' we know what caused that and it won't appear in the next roll out, or any of the other bugs including cache AOL issues etc.
During the last rollout there were some very strong opinions about the the way that rooms were displayed in one list, some people really didn't like it and some did.
We can make it work either way, although it will in fact be running on less than 4 chat servers we could make it appear to be running on 4 with the drop down to move between rooms that you have at the moment, it will take a bit more time to put together but it should be possible, at this stage I can't make any promises though.
What would help us, is for you to post constructive comments either way, on what you liked/disliked about the new version, lets not dwell on the things that went wrong but focus on likes/dislikes, it will help us in deciding which way to go.
i didnt see that much differnce between the old and the new to be honest apart from having to scroll down a bit further than i normaly do to find my usual room.
what i liked was the fact that i didnt have to keep changing my typing colour because i wasnt changing servers all the time to find friends on different servers. just change it the once and carry on.
in fact the only real 'negative' was that the rooms list was long because of the various topics involved and can only se it getting longer when people open password protected rooms as well as open rooms.
just my opinion but was good to have a change .. persiveer with the 'i dont like change' brigade and do what is best
I think I agree with sara_2006 It all seems ok to me. I must admit I do like the format of chat in the layout as it is though. It seems less cluttered and very easy and efficient to use. Rather than the other format which looked too cluttered and busy. and with the odd whisper thing. Which made watching the chat going on while having a more discreet conversation aswell impossible.
If the idea of another cam is still on the boards? Could this not then be placed between the existing cam window and the rooms list?
I do think that overall though the site seems to benefit from less hiccoughs and breakdowns than it did, which has got to be for the good.
Ok - new one positives - didnt have to change colour, seemed to be much quicker for me, and could log out without having to wait five mins to come back in, BIG BONUS negatives, list too long, unless you set up your own room you end up in a main room, and not being orrible or nuffin but i noticed a different calibre of person when there were sooooooooo many in the pool - ie rude, directors and phantom whisperers !!!!Also having over hundred people in a room, although exciting was really difficult to keep up with - as you try harder to concentrate on the people your talking to, and very often can miss things as well. What would be a good idea would be perhaps the new format, but when you set up rooms you can hand over the boot to somebody else in there ???, so for example i could have me jacuzzi 2 room as a set up room, and it would stay there all day ?? - I aint no comp wiz so dont know how it works, but just an idea ?
Nutts x x xx
why are we making or trying to make this change from the 4 servers to the one anyhow? am i missing a point here you are testing still on the new format beta chat room still which at this moment is appearing to be in remission not seen it for a while. so does this mean changing from the 4 to the new big one is only a temparary thing till the new room comes into place if so why because we,ll only have to go through all this disruption again when you put that into fulltime use and testing has finished. this isnt a moan a gripe or a pop its a seriously confused person sat here wondering if this upset could of been avoided .
god we must be thick we didnt see any diference lmao
haven't read everything else as I just wanted to post my thoughts, I would prefer an apparent 3 or 4 servers as i think there are just too many rooms to scroll through.
I know the number of rooms is the same but somehow it seems more user friendly if you can spread them over more (virtual) servers
1 big server is better just takes some adjusting like anything new
Just a thought...
I know we can currently report users by contacting Ops etc but while you're improving things at the moment, but how about a report user button (maybe like the view profile tab).
This could be used when chat users become problematic. Maybe this could send a message to an Op that is signed in so that the issue can be dealt with as soon as??
I've not experienced the "new" chatroom so can't comment just thought this may be an improvement that could be considered

why advertise that all chatrooms servers are now merged into one as of 8 feb, when it only happened for a brief moment and now is back to 4 servers. Also the front page still says it only has 3 servers.
What is going on?
when can we expect up to date news?
When we use the cam in chat rooms it cuts us off after a while. Somtimes we get half an hour another time a couple of minutes. The cam works fine on MSN.
Any suggestions please?
