Is it just me, or do other people find chatrooms a bit of a waste of space... Unless you actually know a few people that are already in the chatroom, you will probably be totally ignored.. more so if you are a man.
I spent a good hour moving through the SH chatrooms,
politely introducing myself and explaining I was fairly new and looking to make a few friends..
almost 100% total blank..one or two people said hi, and that was as close as it got to a conversation..
Watching the traffic that passed up the screen all anyone seemed to say was something like ..
Hi jim....hi fred...anyone in norwich want to meet... hi sue...bye sue.. and thats supposed to be a chat ???
I know I sound a bit of a novice, and I probably am..but are there any chatrooms where people really do chat ?? any subject at all..
thats my grumble for the day
Chris
I've been a forumer a long time and only got into using the chatrooms earlier this year.
There are some excellent rooms then some where nobody says anything openly or they don't respond if you try to get a chat going, odd, true, but that's up to them if they want to lurk in silence.
Like a lot of things you have to keep on trying and good things do happen in time.
The site works for different people in different ways.
I live in the forum normally biggrin (I've moved in but don't tell admin!!), but have been known to wander into the chatrooms  and people are all over the place, maybe find a chatroom near to you.
People in the chatrooms ignore me as well, but don't let it bother you, just move to another room or open your own room.

Hi Chris,
welcome to sh!
You didn't come into my room last night we spoke about marriage, banking, children growning up to quickly, poiltics, wind turbines, music. lol
What topic would you like to discuss?
We always talk to anyone that wants to talk, you will never get noticed sitting quitely in the corner.
I do find the main rooms are to quick for me I like the quieter side rooms where regular people come in, I believe it is here you get more of a feel of someone can pick up on the banter and chat. But you have to put yourself out to be noticed.
Good luck!

You always ignore me Minxy. :upset:
But I admit I do like your room as people in general are polite, and we do have a vast range of topics going. But never sexual ones. innocent
When I first started on here it took me about 2 weeks of spending an hour or two each day in the chatrooms (mainly my local "mids" room) before I was confident enough to actually chip in and do more chatting than just hello's and goodbyes. In that time you get to know a few people and soon you get the confidence and the acceptance to do more.
The overall result is that you grow a social circle and make new friends to the extent that when you attend socials or meet people for the first time you already have a pretty good idea what they are like and vice versa.
I like the chat rooms. I do find though you have to be a bit on the persistant side if you want to get in on the flow of conversation. In the case of Minx's room the flow of conversation is really nice interesting pleasant well mannered although bollox nonetheless lol
Don't tell em I said so but the people in there are really very nice to chat to, almost to the point of normal even. There's even this blonde bird who gets in there on cam. Although, blimey she is well nuts!! biggrin
