Is it just me, or do other people find chatrooms a bit of a waste of space... Unless you actually know a few people that are already in the chatroom, you will probably be totally ignored.. more so if you are a man.
I spent a good hour moving through the SH chatrooms,
politely introducing myself and explaining I was fairly new and looking to make a few friends..
almost 100% total blank..one or two people said hi, and that was as close as it got to a conversation..
Watching the traffic that passed up the screen all anyone seemed to say was something like ..
Hi jim....hi fred...anyone in norwich want to meet... hi sue...bye sue.. and thats supposed to be a chat ???
I know I sound a bit of a novice, and I probably am..but are there any chatrooms where people really do chat ?? any subject at all..
thats my grumble for the day
Chris
I've been a forumer a long time and only got into using the chatrooms earlier this year.
There are some excellent rooms then some where nobody says anything openly or they don't respond if you try to get a chat going, odd, true, but that's up to them if they want to lurk in silence.
Like a lot of things you have to keep on trying and good things do happen in time.
When I first started on here it took me about 2 weeks of spending an hour or two each day in the chatrooms (mainly my local "mids" room) before I was confident enough to actually chip in and do more chatting than just hello's and goodbyes. In that time you get to know a few people and soon you get the confidence and the acceptance to do more.
The overall result is that you grow a social circle and make new friends to the extent that when you attend socials or meet people for the first time you already have a pretty good idea what they are like and vice versa.
