Should the old Chatroom (s) be now closed ?

All,
Based on a very un-scientific 'survey' over the last week, whenever I've popped into the old Chat there has either been
a) no one else logged in/present (okies usually daytimes)
or
b) very few, i.e. under 80, across the default rooms or any hosted rooms (usually evenings)
This would indicate that now that the new Chat has settled down, issues have been fixed, etc. that the overwhelming majority of people have voted with their feet (should that be mice/keyboards ?).
Therefore should SH now close the old Chat at the end of the month (30th November) ?

Sorry, but I believe the decision to close the old chatrooms should be left to admin. For all you know, there may be a valid reason why its still there wink
Ian,
A very valid point and their decision as the 'service provider' and AUP, etc.
However as they initiated an informative discussion on merging Forums
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/344104.html
and the threads debating the new Chat, I believe this to be a valid topic for discussion and one Admin may or may not refer in their deliberations.

IMHO there is a big difference between the site owners checking with the users for their comments before making any decisions, and the users attempting to dictate to the site owners what they want.
One question that springs to mind about your comparison.
When was the last time you read about somebody who 'couldn't access the lets meet up' forum.?
Compare that to the last time you read about somebody who couldn't access the new chatroom.
Also think about site crashes. On the odd occasion, the forum has a 'rattle out of the pram' moment and there is a total outage where nobody can access the pages.
The chatroom throws people out on a regular basis. Sometimes it just lasts afew seconds and people log back in, other times it shuts people out for a lengthy time period. As we all know, more than 20 seconds of site outage and the world will end for some people.
Finally, as I hinted in my first post. There may actually be a behind the scenes reason that is not being discussed in the public areas of the site as why the old chat server is still there and hasn't been taken down yet.
Sure, at some point in the future, I would expect the old chat server to either be orphaned or taken down, but while development is ongoing on the new chat (and the list of upcoming enhancements is looking great) old chat may just be needed on the odd occasion.
Since the new chat is currently down, I think it would probably be a good idea to keep the old one open wink

I agree :-)
I just wondered about the stats of usage of the new chatrooms compared to the old chatrooms. I know one or two are full but are they actually fuller than the old format? I dont come on that often now so a genuine question. I am a very old fuddy and really liked the old format but I will I am sure get used to the new format.
