I'm a nosy fooker at the best of times but I've noticed a lot of people are posting in this new forum that have never posted much before, more so topics are being raised in here that could have been raised in the cafe before we had the chat room forum. So my question is what suddenly made you all decide to post or raise topics now dunno

and don't give me that clique shite rolleyes

'cos most times I've seen someone start a thread or raise a question about the chatroom in the Cafe they get told the Cafe isn't the place to raise that subject - sometmes politely, sometimes less so - in the end it has the predictable effect of making some of us who spend our time in the chatroom feel uncomfortable raising our heads in the forums ...... but we enjoy this site and given another chance in here to be made to feel welcome and to contribute we're having another go.
As with all human activity you seek out and settle down in those places and with those people where you feel most comfortable....and it doesn't mean you can't get on with others when your paths cross of course - at the end of the day we've all got a lot in common here on SH whichever areas we frequent . smile

Ahh Sheddy, poor misguided fool ;)
You think the chatroom users have it easy in the Cafe ?
With such wit as:
"Go ask in the chatrooms"
"Do we come into the chatroom and whinge about the cafe?"
et cetera et cetera...
This forum is here so that the chatroom users can post safely without fear of the piss taking and sarcastic comments that they face should they dare to post in the cafe..
I realise there was a whole thread available to them for their use before but some clever admin type had the idea that, seeing as there are on average 1500 users in the chatroom at any one time- maybe it would be a good idea to give them somewhere to raise techy questions, ask for advice, make suggestions and explore the forum side of things in peace.
Similar to the dogging forum really where people who like that are free to post and the LMU for people who like to arrange meets that way smile

I for one am in favour of this forum for the above reasons and others. Cafe users who are new to the chatrooms are encouraged into the newbie chatrooms or the forum chatrooms, so they have somewhere to feel 'safe' in a different environment. Many chat users aren't aware of the forums, but hopefully we can change this by providing them with this forum (which is advertised in the chatrooms by Ops),not only as a 'safe' place for advice etc but as a 'stepping stone' perhaps into the world of the cafe (only for the brave mind).
As an aside, my opinion on the so called 'divide' that this forum will create is that is utter bollox. See above.

The reasoning for this is that there was a chat room thread stickied at the top of the cafe page. Recently there has been a glut of chat users coming in the cafe and starting a completly new thread asking why the chat rooms dont work (one day there were 5 seperate threads asking this in the first 20 posts). Now in a chat room i use when some one comes in from another locale and asks is the any one near me thay get the same treatment yet the room says all welcome. This dont allways happen but there are some here and in chat who can wolfpack on posters just as there are users in chat who wolfpack on non regulars etc. just ignore them.
I'm a fine one for saying ignore stuff like that but some times i get wound up and bite at things that aint there but over time you do realise thing aint that personal exept in rare occassions.
I felt the same way in the chat rooms i use when i started here so started using the forum but i didnt stop going in chat and now feel more at ease in the rooms i use.
It's a two way thing, there is no divide just prefered meathods of communicating and if not used on a regular basis can seem intimidating.
Now i'm comfortable in both i will use both as there are great folks on both, also there are people i don't like or get on with but that aint going to stop me.
Don't forget there ar half a million users 5000 of which are online now and not all in the same part of the site. We are not going to agree all the time or use the same meathod to communicate.

Ive been on this site for almost 3 year sand only ever used the forum, basically cuse i could never get into the old chat system.
the threads in here are all chat based i think? I know there was a sticky thread at the top of the forum for chat questions but to be honest it would be like trawling through a bog to find the one thing someone may have asked.
i think when chat was alot smaller this one thread in the cafe may have been enough to cope but not now chat has taken off like it has.
i have to agree that when i have come into the forum and said something about chat i have been told not to come in "here" with questions related to chat and the same with questions about the ads, i mayhave enen done this myself im my no chat user days.
so why do i come in here and post well because i dont feel i will be told off for raisiing chat room questions and thats coming from a equal user of both the forums and chat rooms.

probably for the same reason there is a room on the chatroom called "forum chat" where there room is passworded.... because this is where they feel comfortable.....
exactly the same thing.... but the roles reversed.....

No mate Image shack just ask you to put it in when you use a pic hosted by them and rather than do it per image i put it in sig. I keep meaning to take it of as its been there a while now but i forget.

Ahh not after 9 its not now as the room is opened up after some concern about this issue, and its not hard to find the password anyway when it is its right here in the forum chat thread. Its only for the forum users to have some live chat time for an hour as some dont use chat at all and they feel comfy there not to be segregated hence the unlocking and so far it has been fine with just a few whisperers and not that i recall any directors.
I'm a bit bored with this cliquey word. Niether chat nor the forum is cliquey it just feels so to new folks. I felt that way when i came here both in the forum and the mids chat room. It just feels like evry one knew each other and i was a fly in the ointment so much so i posted a thread on struggleing in chat. Only now after almost 12 months here do i feel im settling in the room. Thats the only reason for my forums use initially and even in there has been a bit of a roller coaster even now.

I still feel like that after over a 1000 posts.
Its not forum people thats the issue its some forum people just as it is with the chat people not all are the same.
When i came to the forum after struggling in the chat rooms i felt this way but there are many folks here who have helped. It seems that both sides insist on tarring the other with the same brush and there realy is no need.
In the forum as with chat you are going to cross folks you think you dont like due to comments made. I fell into the trap many times of taking a comment here as a direct hit and rising to it. Only now am i a little more reserved by realising its not allways as personal as thought and just a general comment based on their experiance of the site.

Exactly, we all was once new to the site and actually 'felt' very new at some stage, even the people who are in the so called cliques, whether it be a chat room clique or a forum clique all were new at some stage.
Surely we are all on this site for the same reasons, to have fun. We may have different ways of getting our fun, some want to arrange quick meets, some want friendship, some want a good old chin wag and some just want to spend a bit of time with their mates, but we all are adults (I hope) so isnt it about time we got rid of the 'them and us' mentality and the so called 'cliques' and all start showing a bit of respect for each other, whether we be forum or chat users.
Whether someone prefers to use forums, the chat room or the photo ads, we are all equal on here and are all members of a bloody good site. We all deserve to treat each other, and each others preferences, with a bit of respect and use some of those good old fashioned manners we were taught as children. If we dont like the way someone posts, or the way someone 'chats' . or words their Phot ad, then keep move on, ingore it and for a change, live and let live!

Im sorry if you find this as rude and smartass but I really do have to disagree with your comment. Yes there are SOME rude and smartass forum user, but there are also SOME rude and smartass photo ad users, and SOME rude and smartass Chatroom users BUT the majority of people from all parts of this site are nice, friendly welcoming people.
The main difference (in my opinion) between chat room and forum users is that with the forum users, any comments they make are there for everyone to see, and are there for people to SOMETIMES read in a way in which the comment was not mean and for SOME to construded their comments are rude or smartass. Remember any comments made in the chatroom vanish from view within a few minutes, you read it quickly and have to digest it quickly, no time to dwell on it, no time to revisit it a few days later when you MAY have got things a little out of proportion.
The only way that this forum and all other parts of this site will work, and the so-called cliques and smartass/rude people to get fed up and find something else to do, is if we all start to be a bit more friendly and tolerant of each others preference.
Think I said it before, live and let live and remember it would be a very boring place (world) if we all liked and did the same things!

This was the problem for me and still rears its head now and again but i now use the steam room to make a generalised rant rather than spoiling the thread itself and digressing from the authors initial post. I've also learned to keep my self away from threads which contain posts like this untill time has passed before rejoining the thread later on.
So much less stressful lol

I'm now concidering going into the Steam Room to have a benny about having to keep adding the a's to steam cos i keep missing it mad
