Beds police:
BUSINESSES and residents in Mid Beds are being urged to join Bedfordshire Police in the fight against car crime.
They are being encouraged to sign up to a new Car Park Watch scheme as part of Operation Soviet, a vehicle crime initiative
A special hotline, SovietMaster, has been set up so people can pass on information via email, text or telephone message.
Car Park Watch members can also expect to receive timely warnings and advice on crime relevant to their area via an existing system known as RingMaster through email, text or telephone.
Officer-in-charge, Det Con Richard *******, said the force is looking for support in areas where intelligence shows vehicle crime is a problem, such as car parks at pubs and clubs or shops and residential streets.
DC ******* added: "I want to reassure residents and businesses they can text, telephone or email me with live information, no matter how trivial or insignificant it may seem to them."
He said this could include details of suspicious cars circling an area, or someone that simply "doesn't look right."
DC ****** stressed it would help officers draw up what they call an "intelligence jigsaw of real-time crime" and continued: "It is my role to proactively gather information such as car registration numbers and descriptions of suspects, which will allow me to research these to discover more quickly who is responsible for car crime.
"SovietMaster and RingMaster are both good examples of how by working in partnership with the community, we can drive crime down and make the county a safer place."
Given that in cases where the public HAS phoned them after witnessing carcrime, they took TWO DAYS to get to the carpark, I think this is another waste-of-time operation !
