We have recently moved back to the UK after working in Germany, a cool thing about that place is that dogging is not subject to hassle by the police as it seems to be here. Another is that some sites are recognised as the type of dogging discussed here, but others are for couples. We loved that, parking up next to another couple and taking turns to watch the other, sometimes getting out of the car.
It does not seem to happen here, perhaps it is known by another name? But we would be interested in chatting with other couples into this, we are in Yorkshire but with the camping season coming up will be travelling all over the UK.
dunno about the scene, but anyone that lives in germany, calling themselves "spitfire" gets my vote..ahh fantastic !!
He he, we moved back to the UK. But to be honest I doubt any German would know what a Spitfire was, they are taught very little about the war and the older generation act like it was some sort of alien invasion which they helped the allies fight off. Get this, an extract from the official Heidelberg guide book:
"1945, thecitizens of Heidelberg succesfully surrender the city to the allies"
Way to go.
Seriously though, it is a wonderful place to live if you have kids, they love them. I never had to feed them, walk through a supermarket and they are given fresh bread, sliced sausage, cheese, drinks, even sweets at the checkout. The little one was in a stroller then and people would throw coins into it to buy his mummy her much needed tipple after the shopping.
And safe! After a week walking the kids to their new school I was accosted by the head master who wanted to know why I brought the kids.
"Well there is the wood they must walk through," I pointed out in my rotten German.
Puzzled pause, then he asks "Do you thing there are bears and wolves in the woods? There is nothing in Germany that will harm children, you must let them walk alone, the other children are laughing that they cannot learn the way."
Cannot boast that in this country can we?
It is open in other ways, very naively I commented to my husband once that some of the pubs could give people the wrong idea by putting red lights in all the windows; he just gave me this funny look.
aah, that was a nice little chat, thanks..we ourselves recognise much of what you said,.i was born, and lived in south holland whilst mrs dirty is of german descent, having spent her early years in munich..my mother isnt a fan of germans, having witnessed german troops storming their house, and holding her mother at gun point whilst raiding the house of what little food they had, so imagine her look when mrs dirty came goosestepping into her life !!..i mention it lightheartedly, as they are absolutely the best of freinds..
.....i will be visiting germany in april, my handle will be " hurricane harry", thanks for the inspiration..you are so right about the things you spoke of, we remember all of those things, a visit to any shop for a child was an adventure..some nice memories..xxx
