What's in a "Name" - a good question for the Mods

I agree with the principle of discretion being shown when referring to dogging sites by name...but I'm confused by what is defined as acceptable and what isn't.
As an example, there are 2 or 3 current and live threads about Blidworth Bottoms, and I just noticed a thread where Birdlip is being mentioned. Personally, I wouldn't have used these names (but do here as I assume that they have passed the acceptability test already by being allowed)
Please clarify where the line is drawn.

well i agree that names shouldnt be mentioned because then u get alot of wasters down...then the police down (because they do see these sites) and then everything gets ruined..so i think if people are going to mention names of places...do it in PM

Thanks for bringing this up. The reason why I personally have left these names in posts is cos I'm not sure whether they are specific locations or not confused

. Most probably the other mods don't know either, so have given them the benefit of the doubt.
It is important NOT to mention specific places, particularly along with dates and times. If anyone does see a reference to a location they know to be specific, PLEASE inform a mod, either on the thread itself or by PM if you prefer. Any mod will do! wink

Just to clarify what "specific" means I'll use the example of Bolton, where I go and know reasonably well. It is fine to put that you are going to Bolton. It is very general - no probs at all. For the people who know Bolton they would know that there are three or four obvious places where the meet might be taking place, therefore they might PM to ask the exact place. However, what would not be OK would be mentioning a specific road name or the road number of a particular layby at Bolton, cos that would be VERY specific and very dangerous considering the amount of crime there already. If you are at all in doubt whether to put a specific name or not, go with caution and just use the town name or whatever general location suits best.
Once again, if anyone does see a specific location mentioned that we have missed, please tell us!

I'll be honest, I left the Blidworth Bottoms one because there are 3 areas it could be and the police know and monitor all them, as do the boy racers, etc.
The place is notorious locally and so unlikely to be compromised any further than it already is. Every bugger knows about it confused

If I've missed a post where they are giving a specific location/car park and time and place then I apologise they should have been removed.
I take your point though and for consistency I will remove any further references if I come across them.

That's fair enough then. can I make a suggestion then...
As and when any specific sites are mentioned, you add the names to the forums "Excluded Words" list? (the one usualy reserved for profanities and other foul language) I operate some forums on other sites, and this could be a very simple matter to do on those, to anyone with the appropriate administrative privilages on the message board. I don't know the make of this message board or if it's possible, but if it is, it would stop such names from appearing in the first place.

That would be up to Mark, but I quite like it the way it is. I get to put sarcastic responses in red to offenders. This brightens my day no end lol
