100 children a month alert police to internet predators.
I think this is jolly good news and illustrates just how savvy our youngsters are these days.
What do you think?
Hey ho, we haven't had a ' ' thread for a few weeks.
I am not sure how 'healthy' all this snitching is. Yes in the case of serious offenders its essential. But there is an area where doing such things can develop a fascination and occupation with noncey type things. And it brings more people into contact with such things.
I mean since we all started being alerted to noncings, the incidents have continued to escalate. It then becomes commonplace to read and hear about such things. How long before people become familiar with it and then begin to accept some aspects of it?
So I think good old fashioned coppering is needed again. ie knobble the offenders but don't create a world where such things become part of the daily news.
I do believe Duncan to be right.
We still have to remeber the little boy that called wolf, I think some incidents should be reported of course, but do a lot have a just cause?
I don't know, it is the same as bullying by reporting someone has called you a name for instance and it gets labelled as bullying, could detract from the real mental and phyiscal damage of others.
should they all carry the same label?
I personally dont think they should.
has anyone ever seen that programm where they set up chatroom for kids and try to catch the phedophile? they not really kids they guys are talking to they adults pretending to be children and setting up meet, when they guys turn up to meet the underage girl, and some think shes as young as 12, the tv and police are there to arrest him, i think its a great idea myself, i know people who against it because they see it as a trap, which it is but i look at it like this they turned up with the intentions of meeting a child for sex, i wonder how many times they have done it before and actually gone thro with it? anything to catch such people is a good idea in my eyes
IF parents were more aware of what their kids were looking at in the first place, I am sure there would be less to report.
Also the op implies that it is the kids reporting things? Maybe it is vigilant parents reporting it? dunno
If any parents are reading this and have not checked what your child is up to on the net, then have a gander. Be responsible, and be bothered.
There are too many " nonces " out there, looking for their next victim. It is always somebodys Daughter or Son.
I think in one way its great Ben, as you say to see kids being aware and for a change suggests that government campaigns have worked AND that parents are helping to make their wee ones get the message.
Im not sure how the figures compare to how many kids would have reported such things to their parents or elder brothers when I was a kid. If an approach was made in the swingpark when I was a youngun the retribution taken by Dads and brothers was never recorded- although possibly more effective at least for the local community.
In another way though............isnt it fucking sad?
I confess I had an ulterior motive in posting this thread.
The Daily Scum will doubtless pick up on it tomorrow and I hoped to pre-empt the "eek the internet is awash with nonces" post with the inevitable ramble from a solcredulist.
The original article was in the Gonad.
And yes its fucking sad innit.
(Please note the use of the word solcredulist my word of the day.)
I would simply direct anyone with children who use the internet to the CEOP site:

and then ensure your kids know this site:

It is their children's site and is targeted at a variety of ages. Really handy stuff.

Good answer Nola.
Yeah well done Nola, and lets not all get fooled into thinking that the nonces live in the computer now. Where theres kids theres nonces - albeit that there are far fewer of them than the Solcredulists would have you believe

I found out yesterday of someone who had been targeted in RL by someone in a sports club. He is being prosecuted. The police already have a "substantial file"
Please keep your wits about you off, as well as online.

Yeah....ok !
But making-out that there are many more than there are in reality allows the installation of systems to "protect" children from said nonces. Of course, making any comment or protest about these rather anonymous government protection systems automatically means you are (by proxy almost) a !
Catch22: if you complain about government protection systems you are one of the people that children (and others) need to be protected from...
Strange really, because the government and it's agencies are the ones doing more harm to children. Promotion of fear to prevent protest ?
“When an opponent says: 'I will not come over to your side,' I calmly say, 'Your child belongs to us already. You will pass on. Your descendents, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time, they will know nothing else but this new community.'.”

Adolf Hitler.
In a speech on 6th November 1933
Strange how history keeps repeating ?
There was a time when people did not have so much 'anonymity'. They were sort of accountable in a few effective ways.
Each street had a nosey old gossip, who made enquiries in the way they do and kept tabs on people's comings and goings. Now in somes ways that was intrusive, but in others it kept people on their toes. Made them accountable in a round about way.
The other aspect was men who were willing to 'have a go' at someone who was clearly getting out of control.
Finally contact with a local bobby, who people knew.
Now this 'system' worked well for many a decade. When did we give this up to see our lives taken over by cctv, childlines, rat on a rat, etc.
And when can we see a return to our lives being what we can deal with, as opposed to feeling that we are incapable of living a life without such intrusive mechanisms at work.
Because you have been told that the systems are for **your** protection, you believe it.
If you protest, you are suspect.
If you do not protest, you agree.
If you have nothing to hide, you have no need to worry.
“The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible reductions. In this way the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed.”

Adolf Hitler
“The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

Hermann Goering
Please feel free to substitute words in the above.
Then contemplate:
If history repeats itself, and the unexpected always happens, how incapable must Man be of learning from experience

George Bernard Shaw.
