First I'd heard about the Avaaz petition. Done, and thanks for sharing.
Spent some time in Kampala and also in other countries with oppressive regimes so here's hoping even a signature will make a change.

Bit cynical sometimes as to whether those unreasonable enough to imagine that a sentence of life imprisonment just for shagging someone is in some way warranted are likely to be swayed by an online petition, but then I remember a similar e-campaign I added my name to calling for Mirza Tahir Hussain's release. It was so successful that the Pakistani embassy's servers just gave up even trying to deal with the flood, and the guy is now back with his family in Leeds. 
So, I have signed.
Not sure the death penalty is still on the table though, is it, and it was only ever proposed for certain offences you might characterise as predatory ((( e.g. Adult engaging in gay sex with a minor. ))) or recklessly endangering ((( e.g. HIV+, engaging unprotected sex. ))) not just for being gay as suggested on the Avaaz site? Think they're now talking about life sentences? Not in any way making excuses for the homophobic twats seriously thinking about voting this bill through, obviously, but be nice if Avaaz tried to be a bit more accurate with the reportage. Makes it harder for those inclined to do so to dismiss their efforts, and by extension those who put their names to the thing.
