Very harrowing tale, however the mother of Daniel Pelka and her partner have been jailed for life for the four-year-old's murder.
Magdelena Luczak, 27, and Mariusz Krezolek, 34, must serve a minimum of 30 years each for what the judge called their "incomprehensible brutality".
Not sure if Judges can now recommend that EU citizens can also be deported post sentance, with a recommendation that UK re-entry can be barred as well ?
Anyway, with this case and countless others before it we are all told that a Serious Case Review (SCR) by Coventry's Safeguarding Children Board will now occur and report back in circa 6 weeks time.
The point of the Serious Case Review is not to name and blame individuals or agencies, but rather to look at where improvements in practice need to be made in order to limit the risks to other children and young people.
There were 39 published in 2011, 37 in 2012, and 13 so far in 2013, question is will it actually make any difference ?
Yes evil people exist, but why does this keep happening ?
Will any disciplinary action be brought agsinst those concerned ?

Perfectly possible H and it doesn't have to be on the Judge's recommendation.
Wind the clock back to the expulsion of the Roma from France a couple of years back after one of them shot a Policeman dead in Marsailles. The Human Rights people were bursting blood vessels over it but the (then) President Sarkozy merely brushed the critics aside quoting EU regulation which allows a State to expel people who do not respect it's laws.
I remember it particularly well as Ben and I had a somewhat heated debate over the issue in these forums.
I just happen to think that the cold blooded murder and torture of a vulnerable young child might be regarded as not respecting UK law...
It's a pity though that the British tax payer has to pay for their upkeep in the meantime.
On the other hand, inmates really do not like child killers too much so their life in prison should be a living hell
Not that I would ever condone such actions, of course!
What a tragic story and one that we hear about way too often. Social workers often get the brunt of the blame, but Social Workers are hugely overworked and are leaving the profession in droves. Often Councils only have a very small amount of Social workers on hand to deal with cases, and the sad plight is that there are not enough Social Workers out there to deal with the ever increasing amount of child abuse cases.
For every one that hits the headlines there are another hundred that fail to. We were told after the Victoria Adjo Climbié case that there would be huge changes, and then the very same Authority had to deal with yet another tragic case that we are all too familiar with, the Baby P case. So many chances missed by all the agencies and when the investigation happens into the death of the latest tragic case, once again the agencies will have missed the obvious. From what I have read this little boy was hugely underweight. Neighbours were feeding him in the street, days before he died his teachers must have seen some of the little boys injuries and yet it seems did nothing or very little to help him. I simply cannot imagine what this little boy went through with the systematic torture and then the knowledge that nobody was paying any attention to his needs, and nobody there to protect him. How utterly horrific that must have felt for this little lad.
Sadly this will continue to happen where you have horrid parents, and will continue to be missed when the agencies continue to have their budgets cut to the bone. Sad but true.
when you hear of what that child suffered at the hands of his mother and her boyfriend it makes my blood boil. lets just hope that the prisons they are sent too have a good supply of salt and the other inmates know what to do with it.

Alas, Coventry Social Services have previous history of incompetence

but as usual they'll roll out that 'lessons will be learned' but seldom are they ever as that beautiful little boy Daniel Pelka found out with his life.

No they don't, as the evidenced proved, they are truly evil people. However as a modern society we do not kill as that lowers us to their level.
Incarceration for 1000 years would seem appropriate, being fed gruel & water for the rest of their natural lives and once they have died in prison, mince their remains and dump them into the nearest volcano.
One thing these extreme acts of evil perversion towards children has taught us is our present care system is fundamentally flawed and needs re-dressing sooner rather than later and not just by throwing money at it.
We need to go back to the very basics of why this occurs and stamp that out. Prevention is better than any form of penalty.
