Caerphilly Castle Ladies Football team has withdrawn from the league.
A shame, ok they weren't the best, they lost 43 nil at the weekend, fact is they only scored one goal in their last 10 games and let in 219.
But they should have stayed in the league, sport should be about taking part and trying to win not about results being the ruling factor.
Eddie the Eagle taught us that, we loved him for trying, he was the only one from the UK who did try in his chosen sport.
San Marino do it all the time.
As an ardent supporter of a League 2 team, I know that life exists outside of sport, and football exists outside of the premiership.
It's a shame to see teams close down, but unfortunately someone has to pay the bills and if I was paying the bills in Caerphilly I would rather spend the money on the mens or youth teams. A GD of -218 isn't a joke, it's a financial blackhole.
It's a shame for the girls involved, they gave it a go and hopefully had a laugh trying which is to me, the true spirit of the game.
agreed but in the report I read there was no mention of the financial side of the withdrawal, I can understand that this could have been a major factor but it just wasn't in that report.
I haven't read a report, as you never linked one. However caerphilly football club must have someone paying the match fees, and how do you balance that against the prospect of a ten nil hammering. Would you turn up to watch that sort of thing every week? I know I wouldn't.
oh I dunno, ladies in shorts, the prospect of a 28-0 to aberystwyth ladies fc and 21-0 in another game could be quite entertaining but yes someone should be watching the pennies and this could be the real reason for their departure from the league.

The team, known as the Castle, found itself in the headlines following its latest defeat, which meant the side had let in 219 goals and scored just one in 10 games.
Club officials had said earlier this week they were putting a "brave face" on the results and had no intention of giving up but the statement issued through the FAW indicated the club will focus on bringing on youth players.
It said: "With regret, the club has decided to withdraw its' membership from the Welsh Premier Women's League with immediate effect.
"Caerphilly Castle is very proud of its tradition of nurturing young footballing talent over the years but the club has found it difficult to compete at the highest level of Welsh Women's Football this season.
"The committed officials of the club fully intend to continue their passion of developing players throughout the different age groups and hope to return to the Welsh Premier Women's League as soon as possible."
But they are hoping to rejoin the league as soon as possible, perhaps in a few years when some of those younger girls they plan to train learn how to score goals and keep goals out might be a good time
