We have a foreign aid policy in the UK which is obviously being blatantly abused. This link if true proves that the aid thing is a scandal, and whilst the Government ask for us all to help in the new austerity measures that have been brought in that has cut millions of peoples benefit payments, this then happens.

A billion pounds can do an awful lot of good in this country. How can we possibly be having austerity measures that are affecting our poor and elderly, yet give away billions every year to countries that are far better off than us? A Google search reveals many corrupt things about our aid programes which are far worse than the India aid. Russia has more billionaires than anywhere else in the world, yet we send aid there too. An absolute scandal, but what MP will dare to stop the aid to any country?

In a time of so called austerity should we be sending a billion pounds worth of "aid" to India over the next 3 or 4 years ?
India has it`s own space programme, is a nuclear power and has at least 48 billionaires.
Why should we be sending money to a country that can afford a space programme ? It seems bizarre to me, can anybody make sense of it ?

peanuts you wanna look at how much Afghanistan and Iraq is costing over the next few years
At the risk of sounding thoroughly cynical, I think it's all part of a diplomatic game. International aid is far from a philanthropic venture on the part of our Government. There are complex politics involved and there'll be some political advantage to us. We wouldn't be doing it otherwise...
Cynicism? How about...
The UK - and in fact most of the Western world - have a huge commercial investment in India (think call centres, IT, manufacturing, waste disposal, etc. etc.) so any threats to their economy could be catastrophic on a global scale. What's the best way to bolster a foreign economy? International aid. ;)

(I`m going to assume that you are mature enough to allow the use of the word businessmen........I toyed with "people in business" or "business persons" but fuck it .......)

Of course - I'm not one for unnecessary political correctness... ;-)
